    Hey everybody, I returned to this creek 1 year later with some worms. I caught 10 different species! Check out my new video here: th-cam.com/video/hjps6tCYwWk/w-d-xo.html

    It is funny to see how you are racing to get in your dad-time before you have to get back for family-time. 😅 This video is intense. Almost felt like I was watching a crime taking place. lol. Love the vid. Thanks for posting!

    One tip. Deeper forked tail is a channel. Saw it immediately. Channels often have no spots and can have a very blue color, but the tail fork depth is the key.

    Grew up fishing just like this brings back a lot of good memories nothing like that fight on a light reel!!!

      I just recently (last 5 yrs or so) started fishing small creeks again. Like you I did a lot of this fishing as a kid but I did less and less as I got older. It feels good to go back to fishing the way I started. Thank you!

    You filmed a crime in my state. Only processed bait, eg salted or cured, can be transferred between waterways.

      @@BackroadsAngling figured as much, was just pointing out a funny law. Probably for invasive plants/species from slime coat/eggs.

    We have a secret spot like that but we use sticks and tie lines to them then we bait and wait and after 10 minutes we have at least 1 fish most of the time more

      Sounds like a fun spot!

    • @snaggin_cats

      We have a fishy fish that snaps our sticks, our line, or the sticks get pulled out of the ground. Legend has it the fishy fish is still lurking around with the sticks still hanging out of its mouth.

    Check the tail, channels have a forked tail & blue catfish don't have a forked tail. I've caught both & besides the lack of spots blues don't have a forked tail. Just my observations. Good 👍 luck 🎣 Toby.

  • @gerald4133

    If it has a flat tail & looks blue 🔵 it's a blue catfish. Channel Catfish have a Forked tail. I've caught both.

    • @BackroadsAngling
      @BackroadsAngling  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I believe the rod I was using here was an ugly stick GX2 and the reel is a kastking valiant eagle. I have had good luck with the kastking reels in the $30-60 range.

    That's a eater! Channel Catfish! 🎣 What lb test are you using???

    • @BackroadsAngling
      @BackroadsAngling  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think I was using 10lb in this video. You wouldn't need that heavy though. I think 6 lb would be about right

    • @gerald4133
      @gerald4133 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BackroadsAngling yeah 👍 I use to be a full out Crappie man & sunfish. Occasionally I would catch things that was much too big for 6 lb line & light hook 🪝 like 1/0. I caught a nice eater blue Catfish on it & a couple Channel Cats. I don't recall but in N.C. I was 🎣 fishing for Bass & hooked a 10+ Channel catfish & ended up jumping in so that it didn't snap my line, I threw it up on the bank. I filleted it & cooked a delicious meal for my mom & I. Good 👍 🎣 Luck fishing 🎣

    Any chance you would share a good spots location? I'm Indianapolis amd have tried desperately to find my 7 year old obsessed kiddo a spot and I've failed him 110%, I gotta find something because he's becoming so discouraged. He will catch and release

    • @BackroadsAngling
      @BackroadsAngling  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think the most important thing is to use a presentation that is easy to use and will catch any fish in the area. I use a jighead (1/8 ounce or 3/16 ounce should be good) and put a worm on it. Everything from big fish to small fish of all species will eat this. Try fishing it on the bottom in deeper holes and around rocks or brush in creeks and rivers. Try different presentations like letting it sit still or if that doesn't work slowly bounce it (reel it in) on the bottom. You can also try suspending the bait by putting a bobber 2-3 ft up the line or adjust length depending on depth. As for spots, use google maps to find creeks in your area that are adjacent to public land. On google maps you can spot river bends and deep holes (they have a darker color than shallow spots). Drop the jighead - worm into these holes and it's only a matter of time before something bites.
