Has to do with design hardpoints. In our E class estate, the charging port is on the rear too, which is perfect because we reverse into our driveway. Sure, it could've been done better, but this car was never designed to be a hybrid, so the structure probably does not allow much different placement.

At the end profit margins in the automotive industry (compared to the prices of cars) are quite low, car development plus production is much more expensive than people think and if they decide to spend the money to relocate the charging port than the price would be added to the car or they save money somewhere else. Also, while it might seems to be a really cheap change it's probably extremely expensive, because they have to design a new body, maybe/probably also crash test it and create a completely seperate production line with new tooling just for the few e-hybrids they produce. I guess it wouldn't be reasonable.
This is a real AMG in my opinion. A overly powered high luxury german sedan with a masculine and elegant exterior design. It can kill you in a second or it can make you the biggest hooligan in the city while you have space for some luggage and space for 4 lovely ladies siting in the car. :D
Mercedes made a GT which weighs almost as a G Wagon yet does 0-60 in 2.7 seconds! Like that's a timing that a BMW M5 CS does, which is a lot lighter. Insane how they made this car combining luxury with sports.

electrifying isnt all about range, but also about efficiency, due to these systems, the car consumes less fuel. This may seem irrelevant for a car like this but most tech gets developed in these high end cars and then copied into lower end cars where the fuel efficiency does matter

Making more power would make engine produce way more CO2, and that it something that they as a company must reduce to meet the regulations. This way they can push boundaries with still keeping the V8 and not just going full electric. I understand what you are saying and I do agree with you, but I also understand company's perspective. U can still buy a 63 without E-power and give it to brabus or someone for a tune for the price difference.
AutoTopNL, in my opinion you have the greatest job in the world. Driving fantastic cars on a no limit highway. Looking at the road signs, i noticed that you drive on the German highway, not to far from "Nijmegen" (my town). I often cycle in that region (Kranenburg, Mehr, Kleve etc.)
tbh aim for the 53 or 63, the S and SE lose too much ride quality. 63 is maybe the best blend of ride quality and power, 53 is the best for ride quality.

Guys I have a question! When you're in electric mode then you switch to the combined V8 and electric but the V8 still in cold cuz you didn't run with yet when you were in city for example... Isn't that bad for the engine?or there is something I don't know yet about this hybrid thing !
the full on electric mode is for when you're going grocery shopping, or going to/coming from work so you don't need to start the engine and going through the heat cycle of the engine and keep it nice and healthy
I think the minimum for a backup stand alone style battery should be a standard 100 kms distance at highway speed whatever that happen to be for each country with out relying on regen regen at highway speeds isn't possible so that should be the standard minimum
This is the way car industry should go, not pure electric, batery itself they are not good enough to be main source of juice! All petrol and diesel engine should use similar system!

The concept GT 4 Door had the same charging door cost cutting which just doesn’t look all that nice.

Its called KERS and was used for some years in formula one to gain speed by using the continuous recharging and discharging of the battery.
