Either an earlier or a superior version of what would eventually become the chase theme for Miami at Night. It plays during the cinematic demo from the Euro Demo 43 disc. Composed by Allister Brimble
It's the track I composed for the Title Screen of the game, so I was able to use all 16 channels. It never got used for the title though and instead was put as one of the level tunes. However, the developers didn't realise it was 16 channels and therefore it didn't play correctly in the game as the sound effects had to 8 of them!
i was actually able to dump the early beta version of the song from early build of the game (packed in sampleless FT2 XM module + SBK) with help of my friend. and it (kinda) has different samples. game actually struggles to play it correctly and it is not in correct pitch.
Explains why its so epic compared to other chase tunes. What about other tracks were there some differences prior to release for those? I always wondered why LA had no daytime. Did they scrap it late hence the day time la tracks you composed aswell remaining in the game?
Thats super interesting, I didn't realize the normal effects and level tracks were limited to 8 channels. I just made a video on music in games and Driver made the cut. I think the songs really fit the atmosphere, excellent work.
I knew there was something special about this song! I remember when we first got a hold of the demo and heard this amazing song for the first time ever. I can't believe how different things are going on at once! Thank you for uploading these!
Fun fact: The recurring iconic guitar sample of this song ( 0:14 , 0:25 , 0:31 etc.) is also prominently featured in the first minute of the song "Wild, Sweet & Cool" by The Crystal Method. It is even in the exact same key as here. I randomly found it while making a 90s/2000s video games inspired playlist on Spotify.
That reminds me of the iconic guitar riff of Driver 2´s Chicago at Night, it´s also present in Paul´s theme from Tekken 3 (arcade version), and in stage 1 of The House of the Dead.
wow in the US PS1 version, the horns phase out all the other elements. You cant even hear that bassline when the horns go silent. I didnt even know there was a synth on here either
That's the difference to the retail version, not a regional issue. Something went wrong with the module player in the final release of the game. Scratches also often cause loss of MIDI note information and you get stuck notes overriding parts of the song.
I used a custom tool. You can find the tool used for the main games here: github.com/TecFox/driver-music-extractor. The only difference in the demo is that the files aren't stored inside an archive. The actual conversion process is the same.
The one that made it into the game is another different song with a similar structure. th-cam.com/video/kUd4vAd5MQc/w-d-xo.html Not that "most instruments didn't play" but more like "other instruments played".
@@TecFox How? Is it the SBK or XM file? Cannot find a way to open these files tbh, Awave Studio has been the only one that let me hear some music/noise.
It's almost the same song, but in this one, the bass and some piano keys are different. The bass, for example, plays in two octaves lower than the one in-game, which makes it a lot more heavy!
@@allisterbrimble1 Oh yeah, I remember reading that. If I'm not mistaken, one of your intentions with the remastered OST was to fix those issues, like the bass in this track and the "MEOW" synth in the San Francisco at Day Chase theme.

@@severebraindamage_med That's because there is a bug in the Driver 1 FT2 player and it gets the pitches wrong on some sound channels.

This is genuinely the most interesting and enlightening comment I've ever read on TH-cam.

Yes feels kind of like when Kanye west changed his music, when it went from CD to streaming services.
Sounds ways better then final. More aggressive...
So true.
It sounds like something from the 80's action movie

Used in the earliest Euro Demo
This track was heavily influenced by Quincy Jones' 'They call me Mr Tibbs'
Well... damn! So much channels! I didn't expected that lol
Viva a serie Driver!!!

This music is also used in the early playable demo on Euro Demo 44.
Wow, pretty boppin'
Miami Chase At Night
aaah this is epic :D
Perhaps the Gran Turismo 1 uses the same sample slicing ?

That's also the case with the PAL Version.

I guess this was the version from back when this was going to be the theme song for the game?
One question - how'd you get the XM's out of the game?

what is that player you are using? looks like some kind of amiga music program.
The program is called MilkyTracker.

als ob du auch hier kommentierst xD einzige deutsche den ich kenn auf youtube der Driver Soundtracks feiert
Is this a file that exists inside the disk? Or a cover made from scratch by just listening to it?
It's not a cover. It's ripped from a demo disc.
