- Went through the LCF file for each level and compared the speed value for every car in the game. I hope you enjoy and learn something new.

Didn't think about till just now. But here's also the Pursuer AI speed:
Undercover close to objective = 0404
Normal modes = 1000
Survival = 11F4
Also yes. The Chicago Secret Car is almost as fast as Survival cops.
@Säd Bøy it's the same on driver 2. both use the same LCF file from your game.

Chicaco secret car is actually the beta version (default car for Miami in Driver 1) but the final version in Driver 2 was different.
Rio's limo is faster than Las Vegas' limo. That's... interesting.
Late reply. But I noticed most vehicles that the player is forced to use in missions tends to be the regular speed.

Wow, a lot of surprises here! I think the camera height plays with your perception of speed on some vehicles. The low angle on the Mini increases it, for example, and the high angle of the trucks takes away from it.
I always thought every car was equal, i guess it was the slow framerate. Some did feel more nimble in the corners
Love the Rio bus, just like the one in the movie SPEED. I used to drive it for hours finding places to 'jump' it like in the movie, and see how long I could drive without slowing down haha
I didn't know the Vegas 2nd car (the one you must drive off the railway in "Beat the train") has the same speed of 1000, I thought it was slower.
I just found two mistakes in the final list: it's the Rio car 4 which should have been listed as 4th along the Havana car 3, and in the 2nd place, the Mini is absent.
yeah that's my bad. maybe one day i'll redo this video.
I think the most difference is not the top speed, but the acceleration, remember that with the mini if you stand in front of a wall and press the accellerator the mini literally crawl the wall bring able to almost stand vertically, no other car can do that, also the super small size help you a lot in the game so i think that 1000 is some sort of a default speed. The mini is my top car easily, super fast and super quick accelleration.

I could have sworn the mini was way faster than the truck. It's also weird that the closed lorry is way faster than the open one. Looks to me like the default speed is 1000.
Closed is faster just for Hijack the Truck and Stop the Truck so they will be the same speed as the player car.
4:15 I could have SWORN that the 3rd car on the top row was WAY slower.

We get cars with limited top speed, meanwhile the AI pursuer vans and classic cars all end up being faster than you.
I hope there's a way in the future to limit AI pursuer speed to the same as what they are for the player.
A bit of a surprise is my "estimated" top speeds based on feel. This video quantifies something that I never had any evidence for. Quite a few vehicles surprised me in this video.
I'm able to adjust their top speed and their rubber band speed with cheat engine. They also don't rubber band on easy difficulty.
It would be nice to have rubberbanding amount as a debug option in redriver2.
@@C.I... That would be a really good option actually.
It might be possible because D1 on the PC had various parameters like AI pursuer acceleration, top speed, rubberband amount and the amount of damage needed to destroy them. If those settings are configurable even as cheats, it would make for some interesting movies or possibly Machinima style videos where behavior has to be changed for specific scenes.
If you make the cops equal or slower you ruin the fun
@@fryncyaryorvjink2140 Thats why the best proposal is keeping it optional. That way, everybody can be happy.
If you are in the mood for default cops with speed boost, you can play like that. If you want them nerf'd and equal to you, then you can set that too.
I also stand by the idea that having varying forms of AI customization might let us do Machinima style stuff with both D2 and Dsyn.
Anyway to translate these speeds into miles per hour?

All cities music where remastered by Alistar Brimble himself the original composer. He also did all of Driver 1's. Just look up the "Driver 20th Anniversary" album.

There is no way in hell all those cars in Havana go the same speed... especially the box truck and the pickup truck?!?! WITH THE MINI?!?! That mini zips around town soooooo fast by comparison to all of those cars!!! Camera angle and agility must play a huge role in the illusion here. I'm about to dust off my phat PS3 and pop this game in this evening now!

wait... what car is the bottom right for second place in chicago? is that the white trailer used as barricades?
it is. the truck part is there too but it's obscured by the trailer. it's a vehicle that's not used and was originally planned to be used in caine's compound but ended up being scrapped and replaced with fake scenery models. If the devs had more time they probably would have made it a drivable vehicle without the trailer (at least if i was working at reflections that's what i would have done).

I dont realize that i driving number 1 fast car in this game, i thought my car is the slowest because the cop always can chase near me
if you play on medium or hard cops have rubberbanding to catch up to you regardless what vehicle you drive. then there are some vehicles that are too slow to even get away from the cops and they will just constantly push your rear bumper once you go over 50% felony.

Its top speed matches the getaways car during those chases is why. But only if the cars top speed isn’t too slow like the van on chase the intruder and the bus on pursue Jericho.
@@Comando52Coltonyes maybe. And there's also another yellow car one of the top speeds in rio parked in the gunman mission. You think it's worth it to pick that one?

@@LostInHistory-- both cars have the same top speed when chasing the gunman. as i mentioned before. when chasing unlimited mass cars your cars top speed is matched to there's. it's a special script. on steal the ambulance your car is actually slightly slower as the ambulance has a slightly slower top speed.

@@momoqahtani6545 @Momo Qahtani These shown are hex strings. Refer to the slowest vehicle in the video at 0A6A. Now refer to the 2 fastest values at 1194 and 11F4. In HEXadecimal, the order is 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, A, B, C, D, E and F. FFFF is like leagues higher as a value then 0000.

you need a hex editor. I use XVI32.

The speed values dosent make any sence at all. Is it in a hex value or somthing else?
hex. looking back at it maybe i shouldn't have shown decimal too. hex isn't much different though other then A-F comes after 9.

the pursuer ai have their own speed setup in the mission script itself. and also utilize what is known as rubberbanding when playing on medium and hard.

I watched it. But it's not the only thing that made me want to a video on this. As I was also curious to see all vehicle speeds.
