Like I'm autistic but while I'm not too familiar with meltdowns (I don't remember having them compared to shutdowns, granted it might just be my brain blocking the experiences out?) I know DAMN WELL you do NOT restrain someone if they're freaking out from overstimulation and all it took was looking this shit up to get sites saying NO that is NOT how you handle meltdowns. If that were me? I would've bitten the fucker's nose or something because holding people down in that state only makes it worse! We're probably in fucking FIGHT or FLIGHT mode then for gods sake. Yeah. I’m also disappointed in Leslie Odom Jr. because I love his work other than this so much. Part of me is hoping he didn’t realize that the movie would be this much of a dumpster fire at the time of his contract or didn’t know all of the ableist choices sia was making and signed the contract then legally couldn’t get out of the contract after he realized it was. At least that’s what I’m hoping... but yeah. I’m definitely upset that he was in it, too.

But media in general doesn't care about it and actually rewards it which is the worst part!

I have what is known as "high functioning" autism (though I'm not really sure I like that label anymore, but whatever) and I work as a hostess in a restaurant. A week or so ago, I started getting overwhelmed and began to have a break down. I started tensing up, I started hyperventilating, rocking back and forth, etc. One of the guests was right in front of me when it happened, and, in a well meaning matter tried to put her hand on my shoulder to comfort me, probably thinking I was merely stressed. But I immediately shrugged it off, because when I am having a breakdown I 👏 DO 👏 NOT 👏 WANT 👏 TO 👏 BE 👏 TOUCHED! At least not without my permission. So I don't understand how anyone can encourage physically restraining against their will like that and think it's helping? Sensory issues aren't just related to sight and sound. It extends to touch too. Oh, but Sia just expects us to sing her praises while we watch a young get forced onto the ground and restrained against her will. It makes me sick!

Rewrite the film and call it “musician” (idk I thought of this in 5 seconds lol)
It’s focused on a Real Autistic Girl and has at least 7 different autistic people with strong influence (executive producers and directors, big parts, or if that’s not possible for whatever reason a board of autistic people to consult)
Strong autistic community influence and discussion with them
Consistent calm nice colour scheme (baby blue would feature heavily)
Closed captions on the entire movie whether NTs want or not
Sound design is specifically created so you could listen to it and understand the story, while genuinely just being nice to listen to as is (if you ignore voices, which wouldn’t ever be loud)
Remove the hero complex of the NT, maybe heckin give us some fun adhd asd solidarity? (Have a neurodiverse household of a pair of best friends, one is called Maddie (wink wonk) and she’s an autistic musician and another is an adhd girl who supports Maddie, who might not be the most independent, but she isn’t infantilised. The movie could focus on any aspect of her music career)
That was just a quick idea off the top of my head lol I haven’t watched the whole video or read comments yet
Thanks for reading my rant I probably wouldn’t have lmao

Yes! I endorse this idea, and do hope she sees this comment. Besides being autistic, I also am Hard-of-Hearing and people in the Deaf community (which have a high comorbid rate with autism) could really benefit from this as well.
Thank you for offering your assistance in the matter, although if I am mistaken I believe the community CC feature has been removed so you would have to work directly with the content creator but I am not certain.
This is something I keep hoping this channel would adopt because I feel like I am missing out on some of what is being said (especially when she isn't facing the viewer), and the autogenerated CC sometimes ends up just confusing me more, so I hope something like this could be worked out. :)

@@q.b.2318 yea, it’s annoying that they removed the adding CC option, but i’m pretty sure there’s a way for the creator to allow other people to add them. • @q.b.2318
      @q.b.2318 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

@@azul4904 Yes, I definitely agree. It also helps folk whose primary spoken language isn't used in the content for translation purposes. Technically I am multilingual, but oral communication is more challenging in general given my disabilities and neurodivergence - so that's usually not my main issue. Although, I know many people that use it for that purpose primarily.
Also, technically _everyone_ benefits from a CC option, because even NT Hearing-people who are natively fluent in the language being used might be in a situation where they want to turn the volume down or something like that.
It tends to be that way with all accessibility tech actually....for instance, I was using bluetooth hearing aids that paired with my phone long before "airpods" became a thing (they simply adopted hearing aid technology to make that possible......though, I got to admit it used to be pretty funny when I was the only one I knew capable of discreetly and wirelessly making phone calls in such a way that made it appear like I was talking to myself 😆...lol, those were the days...it was made even more humorous by the fact that even with hearing aids I can't hear at standard levels so it didn't just look like I was talking to myself but also asking myself to repeat frequently...yes it is difficult mostly but sometimes you just got to laugh at the situation, kwim?)
Not many people realize that SMS text was originally invented for the Deaf community...before the general public caught on, and now it is a regular everyday part of most people's lives.
Or, what about ramps, elevators, and automatic doors becoming commonplace?
There was actually a 2006 study by UK's Ofcom that showed that 18% of the population used CC, but only 20% of those people were actually in the Deaf/Hard-of-Hearing community. Even though that data is likely outdated now, I still find it very interesting.
It turns out that when you provide accessibility services or invent new tech to promote accessibility, that service/tech tends to end up becoming useful for a *far greater* range of people than it was initially intended to help. Turns out more people find it _accessible_ and more people _benefit_ outside of those in the community that were (usually falsely) assumed to be the only ones who would need to have such in the first place. And even those that don't necessarily rely on such options, could certainly prefer to have such or benefit from its mere availability rather significantly.
Anyway, sorry for the rant. I also hope they bring back the community CC feature for the reason you stated, as well as for the issue with censoring words - I sincerely wish they would stop.
The decisions by YT over these things feels incredibly dismissive and infuriating. It's like the people behind making these choices didn't consider disabled people once in the decision-making process and don't actually care if we can access the content on this platform at all. So frustrating...
Hopefully, they'll eventually change their minds about how they're handling the CC stuff. But, forgive me if I am not exactly holding my breath on that ever coming to fruition anytime soon.

SIA: "Well actually I decided they'd just go straight to giving the job to her alcoholic, drug-dealing half-sister, who hasn't even asked for that responsibility..."
EXEC: "What? That sounds like a TERRIBLE idea! Why on earth would any sane social services staff do a crazy thing like that?"
SIA: "Because I-- I mean 'my main character' -- needs a Heroic Saviour arc for my-- I mean 'her' spiritual growth.
EXEC: **in Ryan George Pitch Meeting Voice** "Well okay then! Heroic Saviour Arcs for Main Characters we're pretending aren't the Main Character are TIGHT!"

I watched the movie but only to know how bad it is for the autistic community I guess and- THIS WOMAN I SWEAR- it starts with the cast and ends with the storyline, it just presents autistic people in such a bad light as if they're not human dafuq? 😭
Edit: the cast, I said that because sia said herself that the main character isn't played by an actual girl with autism because apparently "it's uneasy to film" with. WOT?!

How I got here was through an ad from Sia, the colors and music startled me to the point I threw my headphones. I had no idea the movie was made to “represent autistic people” and I’m shocked. I get overwhelmed easily by loud noises in particular, and I saw the scene where the girl was being restrained and had a panic attack. I have been restrained in that manner and due to that, I have severe anxiety whenever I am near cops or hear sirens.

The fact that Music has been nominated for two Golden Globe awards shows how ignorant people are 🤢🤮🤮

The film has won 3 golden raspberries which is at least some justice since even part of the film industry has recognised how bad it is.

I love this so much. You have such a loud voice, and you are touching so many peoples hearts, and I love how you are using it for good.
One show that I loved and included a disabled character without it being their whole plot line or personality was actually Sex Education hahah. I really recommend that show because it is so realistic and funny and inclusive. Well done and I applaud you highly for using your voice in such a good way 👏

I am so glad that I found you on here. You have opened my eyes to things that I have always thought of as weird about myself, out of the norm. I am realizing that there is a huge community of people that also have these weirds things as part of who they are and I am learning how to accept myself and those weird things as normal parts of who I am.
After hearing all this information about this Sia production, I am so angry. I have always been annoyed in the past when I have seen a character who as in a wheelchair and doing the research and finding out the actor wasn't a wheelchair bound person. Or when it was supposed to be a film about Asian people without a single Asian person casted in the roles. All of that has annoyed me. Recently, I found a tv show where a non blind woman was casted as a blind woman and watching her make eye contact with just about everyone in the show who was in a conversation with her. A very poor representation of what its actually like to be blind. I don't know how this type of blatant discrimination ends, but it needs to end. Even if we have to start a petition to get the Golden Globes to remove the nominations and show Sia's movie for what it is.. An ablest woman with a hero complex perpetuating harmful stereotypes.

I’m actually disappointed because the music in the soundtrack is actually pretty good, but I just can’t enjoy myself while listening to it because of what she’s done. I usually learn to separate the art from the artist but this time I just can’t.

And you also shouldn't. She makes money out of it and as long as she does, she won't change and the society/film industry will think it's okay to be ableist, because she got money even while she was ableist. So please, don't support anything from her anymore.
