    Hi everyone, I want to state how this video is meant to explore issues people have seen with the film "Music", and this is not focused on the actual songs or tracks from the film. Additionally, since this video weaves between topics that may be highly sensitive to some, we all need to be extremely respectful with our open discourse. If at any point I unintentionally got information wrong or brought up a point that was heavily opinionated as opposed to just the facts, please let me know. Thank you all for watching friends, I hope we can all learn something from this ... 'film'.

    I don’t think Maddie is really at fault as
    1. Her mother is notorious for pushing her to do things she doesn’t want to
    2. Maddie was only 14
    3. She was probably doing what she was directed to do(even though it was wrong[which I don’t think she knew at the time])

      I don't blame Maddie either, I just find it interesting she hasn't been vocal about the issues surrounding the film considering she's worked so close with Sia over the past decade. Maddie has ALWAYS been pushed throughout her adolescence, so I can only imagine the situation she was in during filming.

      @@ranaevalentine9876 this is not fair. Maddie was playing a role and cried the entire first day because she didn’t want to offend or seem like she was making fun of. The issue doesn’t lay with Maddie portrayal, the issue lays with Maddie being cast in the first place. My brother acts very similar to Maddie’s facials and movements. It was going to always offend someone.

  • @Nameless_mixes

    I feel like Maddie hasn’t been able to live her life. She’s always been surrounded by women with a large age gap from her own age. They have been overprotective of her and given her practically no control over her own life. I don’t blame her at all for anything involving this film. She’s never been put in a place to hone her critical thinking skills. So yeah, I blame the adults who directed this.
    And, as someone who is on the autism spectrum (I have Aspergers), I don’t mind having neutral typical actors playing those with autism. *However*, you need to be careful. If you just go off of stereotypes, you’re going to cause more damage to the community than good. They really did a horrible job of researching the topic. For Sia to say that it’d be cruel for an autistic person to portray an autistic person in her film just goes to show that she had some sense of realization during the directing process that it was going to be stereotyped or exaggerated.

      @@popdissected4400 Sia was the co-writer, director, one of the producers and one of the editors of this movie. She also had positivity on the set. Along the way any time someone brought up issues they were ignored. I think it was after the trailer dropped (not totally sure when this happened) Sia asked a couple of autism advocacy groups to watch the movie. They came back to her with a list of concerns, she ignored all of them (was obviously expecting them to give it a glowing report like she kept saying the child mind institute did).
      It was pretty evident that she couldn't handle the smallest amount of questioning with the way that she reacted on twitter. It also revealed that whatever she considered research she knew less that you would learn with a quick google search.
      Her idea of research for Maddie for the role was to watch meltdown videos and she then copied stims and mannerisms from there. Maddie said that it was like learning dance moves. At no time did Sia think it relevant for Maddie to speak to someone autistic to understand the reasoning for the movements that she was going to be doing.

So why are we assuming that every thing we think we know about autism is correct of we never experienced? Just because we might have heard some "facts" told to us by people who read up on it on the internet or what the news told us? Take their credible journalism as facts. I don't know if sia based her research on her experience and interactions with people who actually live with autism. And as an artist I'm sure what we considered to be borderline Parody it's the way sia has always created her art because in her music she does talk about some dark topics but her visuals are always artistic with showing the humor in every bad situation. Sia has experienced many dark moments in her life that a lot of people don't know. We would never tell Picasso how to create his art. So why are we tell Sia how to create hers.

      The music videos within the movie Music are supposed to be Music's internal world. The facials that I have seen in the music clips online Maddie is doing the facial expressions that she has done in every Sia music video. Oh Body her movements are the most like the movements she is using in the 'real' world of the movie.

    Casting a neurotypical person is not a problem in my opinion, casting should be based on who portrays a character best (just like casting a straight person as a gay role). For example, imagine every character with severe Tourette's would be played by someone with severe Tourette's. That being said, Sia obviously didn't pick Maddie because she is a good actress and the portrayal of autism is very problematic.

    I think you are been too extreme in terms of the Sia/Maddie relationship, You said some things that are serious, and normal journalist would investigate.
    And yeah the movie is a complete joke, and probably this is the end of Sia, she said she had 3 albums that are already finished, and she had the intention of releasing and then retire, wich i think it's.going to be dificult. I just think people doesn't know the Sia pre-fame where she was poorly elocuent and very shy and akward. I do not justify her Twitter responses, but it's not a surprise for me.

    • @amandamandamands
      @amandamandamands 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      So you think that it is normal for someone to say that Maddie is their muse and they don't want to create art if it doesn't contain Maddie. That is a lot of internalised pressure for Maddie. Sia is Maddie's godmother, she also says that she wants to keep Maddie safe and the best way that she could think of to do that is to keep making projects for her. The thing that was read out about Maddie snuggling with Sia was said by Maddie's mum Melissa. They also said that Maddie spent part of lockdown with Sia because she was by herself.

    • @omardj13
      @omardj13 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@amandamandamands no i don’t say it’s normal i say let’s treat this thing as a more serious video. All the data that you wrote here it’s important but if this is 100% real well we should call the police. And not defending Sia cuz that would mean i believe in a TH-cam info video but this cuarantine Sia was also with her 3 kids, so it’s not that Maddie was the only girl in the house.

    There ARE autistic and non-autistic people that indeed are like the character portrayed by Maddie. To call it exaggerated mannerism and mockery I think is what is really gross.

    • @amandamandamands
      @amandamandamands 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The reason that people are saying that is because Sia and Maddie didn't talk to anyone autistic to understand why different movements and behaviours happen all they did was copy them. Maddie said it was like learning dance steps so for her it was the equivalent of performing choreography not doing a movement because it fulfilled a need. Creators have said that the way that Maddie was doing the movements reminds them of when they were at school and the way that people would mocking move in the playground when they were being bullied.

    I don't think it's maddie's fault, the problem here is Sia, how tf do you release a movie that is so problematic? And this movie began filming in 2017 and it was released just now, how tf do u not do proper research to do better?? I mean she had enough time to do research and make changes to the screenplay. I think Sia was aiming to do something that only a few people can reach in the music industry for example black is king by beyonce, she thought she was doing something and it just failed terribly. So the backlash she's receiving it's completely understandable, also I think she's problematic overall so it's about time she's getting called out for something

    I agree, her music is good, at least before this album, she's so talented but this movie was a mess and not because the plot that was trying to interested the audience, it was just bad and poorly executed and the music it isn't good, Sia has became kinda repetitive and childish with her music.
    I like some of her songs but just that.

    I think calling a movie "harmful" is childish, to say the least.
    As long as there are no actual crimes being committed in the set. It's not real life, it's an artistic expression. In other words, It's only make-believe that no one is obliged to watch.

      there were harms tho. Sia got super defensive when the community she was supposedly trying to help got mad at her bcuz of the trailer, which hurted a lot of people. and this is not a "dont watch if you dont like it" kind of situation. the movie has a LOT of things wrong and autistic people are right for calling her out on this situation, it's not fixed with not watching the movie and staying quiet when you feel like you're not being well represented

    Is there anything that's more "first-world-problem", than blackface? 😂
    Who cares if our elders' elders used to joke about black folks while wearing black make-up? They used to put lead in the gas they pump out to breathe in later... they didn't know any better.
    And if someone is using foundation or make-up that is in a darker shade than his/her skintone, let them do it, who cares? 😂
    If black people wear lighter shades, I'm not feeling that they intentionally trying to mock me...
    jeeze...
    Do I have to start a white-face movement, or what? 😂😂

    • @repsmila
      @repsmila 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      are you for real? blackface is not supposed to be ignored just because it happened years ago since, in fact, it still happens today (intentionally or unintentionally). it's like saying that we should not care about racism because it started a really long time ago.
      also, white face doesnt exist so it would be kinda dumb to start a movement about that
