When I was forty-five years old I did exactly what you did, I sold my business I sold my house all of my motorcycles and everything. I came to pattaya with two suitcases and money in the Bank.
I partied like there's no tomorrow at many of the bars and on walking Street and got massages and Met many many girls. Six months is too short of a Time because you are still excited about leaving the USA and things here in Thailand still seems fresh and new to you. The name of a game is having something to do that and to live for.
You're doing good by putting out these videos and that keeps you motivated. I have now lived here 18 years and and if I didn't have something and interesting to do I would be bored to death. It's impossible to stay happy and motivated by just chasing girls and getting drunk so if you plan on coming here,
You must have different interests and hobbies.

The language barrier is far lower in Thailand than almost anywhere else you could visit. Most signage and menus have english translations, and menus frequently have pictures too. That, plus the fact that Thai's generally like Americans and are also the nicest people I've ever met have always made my time there very pleasant. For me, time in Thailand is much less stressful than Korea or Japan where nobody seems to speak english.

Glad your happier in Thailand. My wife and I are planning to move here in 2024. Just done a month scout trip in Chiang mai. We are keen to come and make the move in 2024. However the only thing I would advice others looking into this. Do not sell your western house or assets if you have one. The rental income can be a full time wage in Thailand. We have 4 houses that support us to podcast full time, In Thailand that money goes so far. It will be very hard to get back onto the property ladder if you sell everything to move to a cheap country. Keep your assets. You house will always buy you a holiday but a holiday will never buy you a house.

I have a house in downtown Phoenix. I have a 45 ft shipping container in the backyard. I think I will put everything in there and rent the place out. I found a property manager that only charges $90 per month. I watched them firsthand on the job they hired me for. They seemed on the ball, making notes of what needed to be done to get it rented again. The thing is, there could be another housing crisis and huge opportunities in the next few years. And you are 100% right to not sell. Imagine giving up a 3% loan for an 8% loan 5 years from now when coming back because things didn't work out.

I appreciate your honesty Sean and I know its honest because I feel the same way about moving here and leaving it all behind, however I have been traveling most of my life, I chose Thailand because it was a place I knew I wasnt going to blow a lot of money even though I know others have here. I have the willpower to know my limits, but its nice to know its here if I want it, not always the case in USA. I watched your vids and many many others in this area before I came and have met a few of the bloggers here already and have to say none of them have really done anything since they got here some 8 or 9 months ago, you always see them in the same areas (now that I know them) they do not get drivers licenses or have any interests in checking out all the areas in Thailand, their lives revolve around their condos. Ive been here a month and I have my Thai drivers license (passed the test) and going for my motorcycle license this weekend (had to take tests because I couldnt use a foreign license to get my Thai license). I am planning a trip to Ko Chang as soon as my classes and tests are over for driving, then will come back for a week or 2 and go to Ko Samui, Kho Tao, etc. and make my way to Bridge on the river Kwai and on to Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai. I will not sit in my condo like these youtubers do and pretend they are in Thailand, the truth is they know next to nothing about Thailand and telling everyone they are experts.

I got a camera system installed on my bike--800baht off of Lazada/ Records a loop off front and back cameras. Does not help if your dead but it could help in an accident. On Phuket not sure i would want to deal with the police there in particular though. I find some areas of the country have respectful drivers others are psychopathic. I wont move back to Phuket because of the drivers. Will drive there in my car not on my bike but there are bad drivers everywhere here in TH because there are zero traffic cops they refuse to do anything about dangerous drivers here. So the drivers here know they can do anything and get away with it.

You couldn't be more right. I went to Thailand for the first time last August for 5 weeks. It was life changing, so I went back for another 5 weeks in February. The worst thing about going there is coming back home. How painful. I live in the Los Angelo's area. American people are the happy but the women here are pitiful. I am 68 and 60 yrs of toxic femininity has ruined them, social media was the last nail in women's coffin. The people there are all amazing. The woman are beautiful, extremely friendly and traditional. Traditional equals happiness. Both for men and woman, living our true nature. The highest percentage of obese women are in America, the woman with the most mental illness are in America, and the most alcoholic women are in America. In the world mind you. Feminism has really worked for them.😅 Things are 4 to 5 times cheaper in Thailand. I don't drink or party so it is so cheap there. As a man I get noticed there, you can't even say hello to a woman here. And it is not because they want your money. It is their culture. I am going back for another month in September, cost of airfare, rent, food, massages almost daily, women and entertainment, comes to about $3500. Yes $3500 for 5 weeks. No bullshit here at all. That includes hitting with a club tennis pro 10 times and amazing AA meetings. Been sober 32 yrs.

I spent two weeks traveling alone to Thailand, Bangkok and Phuket, later last year. Not one minute of that time was in a bar or with hired help so to speak. I had a fantastic time and look forward to getting back. What struck me the most is the lack of crime, homelessness and open drug use. Sure there are lots of shops selling marijuana now but I did not even see the public use of this. In great contrast to the USA which is rapidly becoming a shit hole because of shortsighted policies, politicians only interested in their best interest, and an inability to govern and promote policies for the benefit of the majority of hard working people here. We are in a era of tail wagging the dog with an emphasis on catering to the extremes rather than and interest is what is good for the Country and general population. I completely understand the allure of a place like Thailand. There is a completely different mindset. In spite of many not having much in terms of material goods, the Thai's seem to be very happy and content. They focus on the things that are important; friends, family and enjoying what life has to offer. Sure, based on the information from many TH-cam channels, there are those that are simply out to swindle and take advantage of Farangs but if you avoid those places and activities I can see where a life in Thailand could be very nice.

And I am impressed you were not drawn into any bars or women's clubs while in Thailand. As many people think Thailand is only known for this.

It really saddens me to see the way the USA is headed. It is beyond my comprehension how we are headed in the direction we are and have been. It is not good for the Country or the hard working, dedicated, quality people of the USA. Seeing a place like Thailand is a real eye opener. Always prefer real connections from people that are honest with their intentions and not behaving in a specific way just because they are on the payroll, so to speak. Bro... great video. After 12 visits to Thailand since 2018 I finally decided to move to Thailand in October. I have been gathering my thoughts and planning on doing some youtube videos to document the experience.
Some guys do it because of a better cost of living, some guys are looking for a relaxing life on the beach, some are looking for a more traditional wife, some just want to play with beautiful younger women... But the destruction of America just hit me like a bullet. Between inflation, weaponization of the DOJ, FBI and IRS, woke politics and the gender confusion being pushed on children... Yeah its time to leave.
    Thanks for your insight.

      @ThailandDantotherescue ปีที่แล้ว

@stefanossmitty3318 you are 100% correct.. however Thai children don't have drag queen story time, or educators discussing gender in schools there. In fact I've never heard of a single trans school teacher in Thailand. I'm happy that they can be who they want to be in Thailand. But it isn't forced upon them or even mentioned in schools.
Tell me if you agree with this. I have spent about a year total in Thailand and don't know everything. I've noticed they can't change their name or gender on their passport and can't marry someone of the same biological sex. But, you never hear about them feeling opressed.

@@stefanossmitty3318 No, they are kids ... when I was 13 I wanted to be a Ninja. Fortunatley I had sensible teachers that explained how murdering people in a black suit with a hood was not a good or legal choice. What they are now exposing young children to is not appropriate. That is a discussion for parents and children when they feel it is an appropriate age. Tuck friendly bathing suits at target for gods sake... I am all about being progressive, but this is regressive... Kids need an education founded in reality. Watch youtube... look for the video where parents are confronting teachers for letting their children dress as the opposite gender at school. I have to assume you are not aware of some of the alarming stuff going on.

The truth is, he likely has limited money and had no plans to travel the world. We all know why he's in Thailand. Right? And, that's OK... but let's not pretend it's because Thailand has some moral high ground, or because the people are so friendly. Thailand is a VERY tough place to live. No one can be trusted--especially the "beautiful woman" mentioned in this video. It's not stress free... just different stresses. Thailand isn't even ranked inside the top 60 of the World's Happiness Index (the US is at 16 oddly enough). While there are always exceptions to the rule, and I hope he is that exception, the reality is what he ran away from, that emotional or mental health baggage that pushed him away from his life in the US, is still with him in that beach side condo.

Hi Sean, thanks for sharing your thoughts. I'm 75, live in the Great Northwestern part of the US and, like yourself, love Thailand. I've been traveling there regularly for the past 5 years and plan to live there at least part of the time in the coming years. Part of what you are experiencing is the thrill and excitement of traveling and experiencing other cultures than your own. When you travel to Asia you realize how much farther your dollar goes. When you go abroad it's very tempting to wanting to retire there because you realize that you can get much more for your money especially if you have savings and social security coming in.
Think about this for a moment - if you had the same opportunity to travel around the US without the worry of money, I think you might experience some of the same emotions you are having in Thailand. The US is is very diversified and is a beautiful country with many different cultural influences. Many of us don't take the opportunity to explore our own country the way that we should.
That being said, I couldn't agree with you more about Thailand. People call it the Land of Smiles. People tend to be happy and content and I think this is largely because of Buddhism. It helps to keep people grounded and respectful.
As an American, you will find that many people will be envious of you because they consider America to be the height of freedom and success. I've found this to be the case in many countries where I've traveled.
Thailand is a beautiful country and there are many expats there. After the "honeymoon" period where you are discovering the beauty of the many different parts of the country, you will want to settle down and figure out what to do in order to be part of the society. There are many beautiful women there and I would imagine that finding a good partner to share life with will be a big part of the equation.
In any case, enjoy your journey and best of luck.

As soon as we arrived in Chiang Mai in the evening, the streets were very busy and traffic was a little chaotic, but I felt a wave of peace, happiness, and tranquility wash over me! It was similar to the feeling I experienced during/after a rigorous 10 day Vipassana meditation course. And soon I noticed that there were Buddhist temples full of monks meditating all over the city which does have a ripple effect on the "mental atmosphere" of a place. The USA, a self proclaimed "Christian Nation" and has been at war with people, places, and things since it's inception. And now Americans are at war with each other. I can go on and on as to why I think that is, but I don't want to start a war in the comments section. Haha!

Good on you for moving there. My question to you is have you tried learning the language? Two weeks after I moved there I started taking classes to learn Thai. Within 3 months I was able to have conversational, going out and ordering food or buying groceries isn't an issue anymore. If this was back in the States people would get mad if you didn't try to learn the language and I figured I might as well learn it while living here too.

Thanks for continuing to share your adventures. This is such a great question to address. If it's what you like, the right answer is always: "FOR ME, the answer is yes." This question and answer apply to anywhere. I have friends who have retired in rural Arkansas. They are religious people whose entire life is about being a part of a church community. For them, it's total paradise. When I went to visit them, they were the first to say "You'll probably hate this place after a couple of days". I did. It was pretty and the people were lovely, but it was isolated, had no decent restaurants, and it was just plain boring to me. But, what I felt didn't matter. The critical thing was that they loved it. I could say the same thing for friends who retired in golf communities, sailing communities, very rich and snobby areas, and many places abroad. It all comes down to personal preference. We all have to find our own truth. I'm glad you are finding yours.

Hello my freind I want to thank you for this great comment, you hit the nail. Everyones version paradise is not always the same. @@livebeforeyoudie9984 Yeah, isn't that something?? It's really kind of stupid, when you think of it. Even if you don't like something you see on these videos, what is the point in being negative? In general, I have found three scenarios for this: 1) They are moralists who have some sort of stick up the butt. 2) They quietly envy you and resent the fact that you are free and brave enough to follow your dream. 3) They hate their own lives and they resent anyone who is happy...especially those who have taken a chance on happiness. In life, there is only one real type of "loser". They are the type of people who cannot be content with what they have, don't know what they want, continue to accept unhappiness, and begrudge others who have taken the chance to have more. My advice is to view all such pessimists in this light. In the end, life is just too short to waste on them. Rock on, dude!
