I've been wanting to try painting like this with my gouache paints for a while now, but I just can't seem to get the knack of it...

Aw thanks a lot! It’s definitely a bit tricky sometimes. Focus on filling all or most areas with base layer of paint and then start looking at one space at a time and start adding more highlights and shadows and details. Start from the farthest elements and move forward with each step. It takes a long time so it’s a bit daunting, but have fun! I have the real-time version in my patreon too if you need extra help 🤍

This is a wonderful painting, and it looks so good when you fill the whole page in, to the borders! :) I have set a goal for myself to actually finish a sketchbook, so I've been using one I got. Slowly, it will fill up 😅
