Pretty much what I expected from standard 45 Colt ammo. But there are some very hot 45 Colt rounds out there. I'd like to see some of that against a clay block. Maybe 44 mag vs 45 Colt +P
The .45 long Colt is a hand loader's dream. I have been reloading it for 50 years. Power plus and very accurate. The original .45 pushed a 255 gr lead bullet about 855 fps. Jacketed 240,250,260 and 300 gr all match and surpass the .44 mag. Check the Nosler reloading manual for 300gr partition. How about 1100 fps? I have carried this load for 20 years when ever I venture into great bear country. The 454 will sure best it, but I can't handle the recoil and muzzle blast. My bear load is almost more than I can handle at 73 years old.
Buffalo Bore makes some 45 LC +P loads that are ridiculous. One loading is a 300gr. semi-jacketed flat point moving at 1350 fps. I wouldn't fire those out of my Colt SAA clone, but out of my Henry lever action or my Magnum Research BFR in 454 Casull, oh yeah.

.454 casull is my favorite revolver round, but i prefer a revolver chambered in .460 S&W magnum to shoot it out of. That way, you can use everything from 45. Long Colt all the way up to full power 460 mag. 454 casull for bears and such, .460 mag for skin walkers.
45 colt factory loads are loaded to 14,000 PSI. Colt SAA and clones , will not hold up well to any more pressure. The 454 on the other hand is generally loaded to 50;000 PSI. NO contest.

454 Casull most definitely a Bear defense cartridge. I own a Ruger454 Casull Ruger Super Redhawk with a 9.5 inch Barrel. I feel confident in the wilderness.
As I was growing up I have always known it as the 45 long colt. But when I did my research on buying one in ruger Blackhawk I found out that it really was 45colt
Great video! I just picked up a 6" Judge Magnium and found out there a TONS of different ammo that it will shoot! With moon clips and cylinder inserts! THAT would be a REALLLLLY COOL VIDEO!! From 22lr up to 410 shot shells?
Got the same gun in a longer barrel. Some say the gun isn't accurate, but mine can ring steel at 100 yards more often than not. The gun's so heavy that even 454 is just a pleasure to shoot! It's my favorite "barbecue gun" when you got the guys over and you want to make an impression. Too bad the ammo is super expensive, and that's when you can find it.
45 Colt is such a versatile round, especially considering it's age. I have killed a lot of deer and a cow elk with it. 454 Casull is a beast. One of my friends has a little Rossi 92 lever action chambered in 454 and has taken several elk with it.
The 45 Colt fun don't even begin until you grow your own😉 but seeing as you take larger game I'm sure you do most of the stuff you buy in the store (or used to😬) is loaded at practically black powder pressures you can really wake a 250 up ESPECIALLY if you have a Blackhawk or of course a 454 cannon but iv ran some stout ones from my cimarron and 1894

My Ruger super redhawk Alaskan , i shoot both 45LC and 454 casull. Zero recoil with the long colt and wrist busting, palm numbing fire ball heaving fun. I load up the first 3 with cowboy load 45LC and the last 3 with 400 grain buffalo bore 454, and give to friends to compare. No matter how strong they are, muzzle flip is always obvious
My buddy loads .45 with a 210 grain bullet with an ammount of powder I don't remember off hand. It pushes 1500+ fps and makes up for the lack of projectile weight. Shoots flat comparatively to loadings in 250 grain pushing 1000+ fps. Haven't tried it in a wheel gun yet but the single shot Thompson Contender he's got handles them nicely.
454 Cas is certainly a deadly cartridge on big game, however, if you are a handloader with a well built modern 45, you easily surpass .44 Mag performance and with a longer barrel, creep up to the shadow of the .45 Cas. Don't believe me? Buy a box of Buffalo Bore .45 Heavy, or non lead rounds (increased velocity) and surprise yourself with what the almost 150 year old Colt 45 can do :) AND..without the wrist crushing recoil, ear splitting blast of the 454 Casull... To be sure, if you run into a highly aggressive alaskan 'Brownie', the Cas, (or bigger:) is what you're going to want. But for the lower 48, the hot loaded .45 Colt can do the job just fine AND..with the Cowboy loads, can be shot all day for hella fun:)
a hot 45 lc is about 19.7 gn powder, and a 454 is about 27.5 and a 5 grain lighter bullet. no wonder the casul is so powerful. that being said. the 45 lc is a hoot to shoot
45 Colt is correct. "Long colt" is a misnomer carried forward for over a century after people started calling it that because it was "long" compared to the 45 schofield.
The 454 Casull can shoot a 325gr bullet, and it would be a lot more effective with a longer barrel. You really can't compare a .45 Long Colt with a 454 Casull. The 454 has more than 3 times the impact energy.
Pistol is an ancient term that encompasses all handguns. Not sure when the modern split between revolvers and "pistols" to describe semiautomatic came into vogue.
Isn't it a US legal thing? Certainly every where else in the English-speaking world a pistol is a pistol regardless of its action (after all there have been revolving rifles and shotguns and no one separates them out).
I've got the exact same revolver... Was figuring on the 45LC to be my budget load, and the 454 for defense...but now 45LC is more expensive than the 454! Crazy days.
Great video.Thats one hand cannon.I have some adapters for my single shot break open 12 guage shotgun that i shoot 45 long colt out of.I have adapters for most pistol calibers and 410 but i sure wish i could find one for that 454.That would be awesome. The barrel is short but long enough to aim pretty good.
The Casull is rated 1800 FPE and the 45LC is about 1200 FPE so that was to be expected. Drop the clay and get some railroad ties stacked and then compare all the different handguns. Clay is child's play.
Oh my!!!! Who needs to carry a whole mag of anything, when one 454 Casull aimed right will end the fight? I'm a newbie..this blows my mind! I came for the 45 Colt round.
You should have said the rough velocity of the 45 colt since 45 colt ranges from 700FPS all the way to over 1400FPS. id love to know where in the power scale these fall into
I had a Ruger 454; you can shoot 45 colts in at as well I used to hot load 45 colts it packs a punch. It's close to 44 mags in power. I'm getting a Henry big boy soon in 45 colts.
Very true, standard loads in the same powder for 45LC are like a quarter to a third of the same powder 454 load. There are load table for uplaoding the LC for use in 454 and they are half- of the 454 load. Apples to Apples same bullet same powder. I load all of these for my super redhawk, and additionally 460 loads for my V460. I dont know the tables for the powders he has in those loads. Standard LC loads are very close to 45ACP +P+ , which is not going to be much from such a large pistol as the TRJ.
My dad got him one of the little shorty polymer framed Judges to have fun out on our home steel range. He got some upgraded rubber grips for it and it's now a pretty sweet little shooter surprisingly. I've been thinkin about buying a block of clear ballistic gel, but after seeing you shoot these clay blocks so much, I think I might get some of these instead. I aint so much concerned about exact wound cavities and such and these are waaaay cheaper. Another fun video! 👍

Do you do anything with the clay after you shoot it?? If not, then grab a piece of cardboard and pat that clay down on it like pizza dough, roundishly, let it airdry under a roof, then next time you burn thrash, throw it in there to fire it.. dust off ashes, put a red dot on it with a spraycan and voila, shattering targets.. :)

The debate over whether there is a .45 "Long" Colt cartridge is an on-going one that has been active for probably 75 years. Elmer Keith alluded to the arguments many years ago when he wrote "...Some newcomers to the game claim there is no such animal, but if they had shot the short variety that Remington turned out in such profusion before, during and after World War I they would see there was some basis in referring to the .45 Colt as the .45 Long..." (Elmer Keith, Sixguns, page 285)

@@isaacpulliam7767 I was looking at the Taurus .454 Casull with a 5 inch barrel but you have to take into account that they include the compensator as part of that measurement, meaning that the actual barrel is only about 3.25 inch.
I'm REALLY loving these videos you make . Great shooting and I enjoy your sense of humor while making them .
That last slo mo shot was freakin nice! 💥👍
🔥🔥🔥 thanks for watching Ed
I used to have a casull rifle with a 20 in barrel, I loaded up 230 hollow points max load, the bullets would fragment in flight, the best round is the 265 hollow point.
I love it!
That was one hell of a fire ball from the 454 Casul 😲
🔥🔥🔥
Mr. Clay Block, (Real name changed for privacy), is one cool dude. Three shots to the noggin and still keeps smiling. Now that's one happy fellow.
45 Colt is such a versatile round, especially considering it's age. I have killed a lot of deer and a cow elk with it.
454 Casull is a beast. One of my friends has a little Rossi 92 lever action chambered in 454 and has taken several elk with it.
I was thinking about you when I was editing this video! You are my only friend who knows anything about 45 Colt.
The 45 Colt fun don't even begin until you grow your own😉 but seeing as you take larger game I'm sure you do most of the stuff you buy in the store (or used to😬) is loaded at practically black powder pressures you can really wake a 250 up ESPECIALLY if you have a Blackhawk or of course a 454 cannon but iv ran some stout ones from my cimarron and 1894
@@wolfmanrebel874 I killed that elk at 140 yards with one round of HSM 45 Colt 300gr Bear Load out of my Winchester 94 Carbine right through the lungs. I have loaded plenty of 45 Colt, but there are few factory loads out there that are plenty capable.
I didn't know a 454 had been put in a lever carbine? Super! That would be a sweet weapon for more care free carry in bear country, or on true outback trail. Nothing hit well with that is going to get to you.
@@johnshields9110 to my knowledge it has only been done by Rossi which is the most affordable IF you can ever find one and also Big Horn Armory which are built to order and can run anywhere from $2000-$5000 BUT big horn also has 500 S&W which is what they are more known for ,they also can make a 460 that I imagine would cycle 454 much like a 44 mag and 357 mag does 44spl and 38 all but I'm not 100% sure on that one but typically in the revolver world anyway a 460 can run 454 and 45colt as well as Schofield
I don’t know about anybody else but I think shooting clay is way better than ballistic gel! And 36 grs of Win 296, oh yeah, that’s some power baby! Awesome fireball too! Great video, can’t wait for the next one!
A hot 45 Colt out of an approved handgun that will handle the load is pretty bad azz.
I shoot 250 grain loads out of my vaquaro at 1350 fps
Will a Uberti 1866 handle the Hot .45 load ?
My buddy loads .45 with a 210 grain bullet with an ammount of powder I don't remember off hand. It pushes 1500+ fps and makes up for the lack of projectile weight. Shoots flat comparatively to loadings in 250 grain pushing 1000+ fps. Haven't tried it in a wheel gun yet but the single shot Thompson Contender he's got handles them nicely.
@@warrencarnright3747 You would have to check with Uberti, I know the Ruger will and a couple of others.
An amped up 45 Colt is right up there with the energy of a 44 Magnum. The Casull is still substantially more powerful.
454 Cas is certainly a deadly cartridge on big game, however, if you are a handloader with a well built modern 45, you easily surpass .44 Mag performance and with a longer barrel, creep up to the shadow of the .45 Cas. Don't believe me? Buy a box of Buffalo Bore .45 Heavy, or non lead rounds (increased velocity) and surprise yourself with what the almost 150 year old Colt 45 can do :)
AND..without the wrist crushing recoil, ear splitting blast of the 454 Casull...
Finally some 45 colt content! I Got a nice 5" barrel saa for christmas and sadly I haven't gotten to shoot it yet.
Catch you in the morning, Who Tee Who the modern day gun slinger. Thanks again for good stuff on your channel
If you slow down the slow motion to 25% at 7:26, it looks like the fireball comes out of the muzzle before the hammer falls. Whasssup???
The 454 is a BA round! I would like to see you compare it to a 500 S&W Magnum and a 460 if you have one. Great video! Thanks!!!
Good idea. I need a 460 and a 500
For sure, the 454 is a beast!
That fire ball was awesome!
POINT BLANK AWESOMENESS in ACTION!!!!!! BOOOM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Awesome man Great video.
That 454 casull will definitely stop a bear in this tracks I had the pleasure of shooting a guide gun two and a half inch barrel kick like a mule
45 Colt is correct. "Long colt" is a misnomer carried forward for over a century after people started calling it that because it was "long" compared to the 45 schofield.
"Good boogie on it"
Im stealing that
Me too.
The reason that the long colt was disappointing is that it was to close to the side and the concussion blew it out instead of the back.
It's not everybody. But I think the tacticool guys do it and also the competition shooters.
Love my 454🤩
Just bought some 225gr. semi-was cutters in the 45LC. Only thing left on the shelf
The clay molding loses its merit when the colt is just short of a cannon itself. Rested 25 yd tests would make more sense in my opinion.
Man Who Tee, I haven't been able to find 45 colt ammo anywhere for the last 5 months amazed you found some
I have had this for a year
Dang Whotee that Fireball out of the 454 about Cooked that Clay
Now that was wicked! I love the 454 casull round man! It’s a beast!💪🏻
I've got the exact same revolver... Was figuring on the 45LC to be my budget load, and the 454 for defense...but now 45LC is more expensive than the 454! Crazy days.
Crazy times
I love loading h110 in magnums. Always a good fire ball in a snub barrel
That reminded me of the liquid metal terminator being popped with the 40mm grenade in the movie. Pretty cool!!
Just out curiosity what was the thing you had wrapped around the front sight?
The Casull is rated 1800 FPE and the 45LC is about 1200 FPE so that was to be expected. Drop the clay and get some railroad ties stacked and then compare all the different handguns. Clay is child's play.
The fact that you shot the .454 at 4:54 is great, nice touch
😝😝😝
Oh my!!!! Who needs to carry a whole mag of anything, when one 454 Casull aimed right will end the fight? I'm a newbie..this blows my mind! I came for the 45 Colt round.
This reminded me of those commercials back in the 80s and 90s this is your brain, this is your brain on drugs...😂 454 is a beast
John Linebaugh loaded .45 Colt in oversized cylinder Aberdeen revolver (same frame as Ruger BH) to 1,500fps.
Can you tell us how many grains the .454 Casull bullets that you used and the same for the .45 LC?
Curious to see what size clay blocks are needed to stop the bullets? 50#? 100#? 24"x24" solid clay block?
Pretty impressive the Casull 454 as it's twice the energy of the 44 magnum.
There are some 300 grain 45 LC that are almost like some 44 magnums.
Twice the energy as 44?? How???
@@Catgat37
44 MagnumXTP JHP 240 gr. 1045 foot pounds energy 1400 fps.
454 CasullXTP JHP 240 gr. 1924 foot pound energy 1900 fps.
From Underwood ammo
45 long colt left a bad toupee. 454 was no joke.
Good testing as that 454 casull is a beast of a round....Good stuff....
Never seen a front sight/muzzle guard like that. Where did you get it?
Casull is no joke. Very impressive destruction.
Maybe try something with a longer barrel like a Ruger Super Redhawk with a 7 inch barrel? Get more velocity from the ammo.
This guy should be on TV.
Great video Who-Tee! The more videos I watch with the. 454 Casull round, the more I ponder about getting the next handgun I don't need! 🙂👍
Try the 45 colt with 40 grains of FFF black powder with a 250ish grain lead cast.
If 3:04 didn't remind you of the
Indestructible cyborg sent from the year 2029 to kill Sarah Connor you obviously haven't watched terminator 😆
If that block of clay reformed it's spooky smile and jumped off that table I'd crap on myself 🤪😁
Great shots. The first clay you were shooting the right and top.
Can you please mold a jar of tannerite into one of those clay blocks?
Good idea I need to
@@WHOTEEWHO please do. It would make a great video. Maybe the 308 for lift off. Guessing I'll see a chunk of that clay land here in Idaho.
Was at a range in early 90”s and seen fellas piling out of trucks. One manloading a 454 handing to another. Evidently a one hand challenge made where they all worked . There was one shot fired ! He turned around and said don’t ever hand me that Gun again and walked off . First one of those I ever seen ! Might have been some bragging goin on 😂😂😂
I heard they are some serious wrist breakers. That's a great story 🤣👍
They really aren't so bad. I have one in the Raging Bull, it kicks hard but not unbearably so. Pretty fun for shattering rocks on the hill side.
That fireball was great!
Thats a great idea. Could even make some smaller ones for the kids to shoot with bb guns.👍👍 great idea.
Had a 45 Colt contender and loaded a 350 grain XTP and a hot load . Most 45 colts are loaded kind of low just in çase someone puts them in a old revolver . Good brass and load your own . Over 44 mag power .
@@jorgesolis9468 I never had any way to test and actually measure . I was just impressed by the smack this round had . Be well amigo .
@@jorgesolis9468 Oh yeah I had a 10 inch barrel and a lER scope and could but bullet at 75 and up to 100 yards into the kill zone on deer pig and used it for years never lost a animal . Be well amigo .
Picked me up a new revolver windicator 357 mag love it so far
Seeing as they don't really make like a 45 short Colt I'm comfortable saying that it's a 45 Colt
Love the fire ball.
Always enjoy all your videos , THANKS
Thanks for watching!
I dearly love my 45 colt in a Freedom Arms model 97. Juiced up with 296 or H110, it do a bad number on anything.
What’s the rubber strap that you have covering your front sight for?
Protects the fiber optic
Every time you bring out your Taurus I am amazed at how big that revolver is. Makes my S&W 357 look like a mini.
Love that thing
It is just .45 Colt. It isn't LC. Always has been that way.
Great video no surprise on which would do most damage on both clay and shooter
I have several 45 Colts made by Uberti with 4.75 inch barrels. With handloaded 255 gr lead SWC bullets at 875 fps they will punch clean thru big Montana Mule Deer with ease at 50 yards. Use a Ruger Blackhawk with 22 gr of H110 with a 230-240 gr Bullet and it rivals the 44 magnum easily.
💪💪
I remember meeting up with an older guy at a gun range when I was 21 to trade him my little ruger lcp for a cheap little 38 revolver. He brought a ton of guns and wanted to spend the day shooting with me and letting me try out all his stuff. He handed me the 454 and holy fuck, I wasn't ready for that. Biggest thing I shot before that was a 45acp.
