  • So this episode I show you how to make game terrain for your role playing games. Taking my city block terrain set a step further with this ancient courtyard to expand on my city terrain boards for Dungeons and Dragons, Frosthaven, Age of Sigmar, Mordheim and many more tabletop skirmish games.
    I use EVA Foam for pretty much all my main construction when I make game terrain, it is cheap (in the UK) and very durable!
    VTT Batlle Mat
    This is also a step forward in making my game terrain available to a wider audience by converting it to a battle mat for VTT sytsems. Here is the link to the map availabl on DriveThru RPG

    Your ability to carve the EVA is really masterful and makes it stand out from all the XPS crafting in the RPG and wargame space. Really fascinating.

    Very nice build :)
    I just wanted to clear up that Oil Paints Do Not dry darker than when you apply them. They are however, translucent. So, When you added the light green over a dark base color, it made the green look darker as the pigment spreads out.
    Now, on the other hand, Acrylics dry just a shade darker than they are when wet.
    Anyway, I think this is very important to know for anyone that is not experienced in oil paints and their differences with acrylics 😊

    Interesting build. We rarely see terrain crafters use EVA these days. You have ably demonstrated that it's a viable material.

      Hey thanks... I reckon it is hands down one of the best materials and really durable, plus it is cheap here unlike XPS which has astronomical prices in the UK

    Wow! What an epic gorgeous build! When you added all the rest at the end I was literally in awe. My mouth was agape and I think I may have even drooled a little. Lol. Well done! Love this piece from start to finish! I'll definitely be checking out more vids. Thank you for sharing this!
    Edit: what brand of hot burner is it that you used to burn those lines into the mat? It took awhile to burn those lines in, how often did you have to stop because it got too hot to hold bare handed?

    • @Terrain_Craft_Chronicles
      @Terrain_Craft_Chronicles  ปีที่แล้ว

      I am glad that you enjoyed the episode it sure was a blast to make. As for the burner it is a purpose built pyrography tool so the handle doesn't get hot at all so I was able to sit down and work straight through for a couple hours doing the carving. The breaks in fact were more so to take a breather from wearing the respirator! As you asked the maker of these is here in the UK and this is his site www.peterchild.co.uk, hope that helps :)

    Cosplay craft foam is smooth both sides and isn't that much different and comes in different densities. Poly props and tyges in the UK I use and America seems spoilt and can buy it will getting groceries.

    • @Terrain_Craft_Chronicles
      @Terrain_Craft_Chronicles  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Bruce... Yes I have a large stock of cosplay foam which is actually from PolyProps who I use 😆... It is currently buried at the back of a packed out cellar, which I am in the process of digging through for my next project! I do prefer the cosplay stuff but had always considered it a bit too expensive for my terrain crafting... however as my builds have become more elaborate and more invested in I am now switching over to what is in fairness a considerably better product. Pound for pound nowadays it's about the same price as floor tiles too! Thanks for watching and commenting!

      @brucesolomon1514 ปีที่แล้ว

      @sean counley I'll look forward to see what you come up with. I really mentioned cosplay foam as some people may not be aware of it but as you say the floor mats are commercially more accessible with places like B&Q stock them for those in the UK. I'm so glad I stumbled across your channel, it was an instant subscribe.

    Does the heat gun or PVA stop the warping on such a flat board?

    • @Terrain_Craft_Chronicles
      @Terrain_Craft_Chronicles  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So EVA is really flexible and bendy prior to the heating and PVA. The heat gun seals the surface so that it is no longer porous and the PVA makes it more rigid. Like with any sheet material it can warp a little but not so much as to be noticeable. One fact about eva is that if it is left stored in a crooked manner it can start to deform but this can usually be pushed and pulled back to its correct shape... it is often a sign that it wasn't sealed effectively to begin with.
      Hope that helps, thanks for asking.

    I will say, I'm a little disappointed. Here, I thought you always freehand everything. Now, we find out you mark and sketch things out, first 😆
    Amazing build. I like this very much, Sean. You can fully expect to find aspects of this, in some of my future builds. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, and all that.

      Heh heh... ya caught me out 😂But yes it was a real nice build this and my dnd group are knee deep in trouble in the middle of that final map build at the end! Cheers Cross and I look forward to seeing what your spin on it is for sure... take care buddy.
