Porting a rotary all depends on your application. If you drive your car on the street, you use a street port. If you your car is a race only car, you use the maximum porting the rules allow. If porting is not restricted by your race sanctioning body rule book, then you run a peripheral port. If they don't allow a peripheral port, then you run a bridge port. These racing ports are not street-able for daily street driving, because 90% of street driving is done at low rpms, below 3500 rpm. These racing ports don't produce torque below 5000 rpm.
I agree. You can get a lot out of standard motor running big ignition , water injection and a hell of a lot of boost! But ported rotary sounds so premium 👌
Actually, I have a brigeport and it's not that bad if you spend enough time tuning low load and transient. It can be pretty streetable without being annoying, but it takes time to get the fueling right. And it's incorrect to say they don't make torque below 5000rpm. That's purely dependent on your turbo. I have a BorgWarner 8374 that makes full boost around 3500-4krpm and has loads of torque by 3krpm.
Beautiful rotors . Peripheral ported turbos were once the thing of dreams but now with advanced tech engine management and tuning it’s a great combination. I had an extend port 13b turbo series v and that was a lot of fun !

walking home from primary school everyday in the early 90s there was an bridge ported RX4 savannah that mustve either been coming home from work or going to work around 3:15pm monday to friday. it was because of this car that my first car was a FC RX7 with large extend port and a respecced T04 bolt ons and management to suit. until you own a rotary you will never know the joy of driving them. just a very different experience overall vs piston motors. i own a 8J TTRS today, the FC is in storage.
I like the look of the black one better but that yellow one was friggin hittin. for sure the faster one. thing looked like it was revving up effortleslsy
Based on just this video alone...i can see that even though both Rx 7 cars produce 700hp on the street the yellow one seems to make it sooner as if there is more torque available on boost lower in the mid rpm range which on the streets is king! However on the open highways the black peri port may shine there on the top end!
One of the best content creators, second to none ultimate professional the video speaks for it self massive huge thank you to you clay and Alex for what was an unreal afternoon 💪🏼
I ran my non turbo full bridge port over 130,000 km. Religious oil changes at 5000km or less, oil injection at max…premix for track days. Summer & winter tune on the 48ida plus regular plugs and they will last even with hard driving
The frustrating part of having all that horsepower , can't enjoy it as much with city traffic . On top of the speed bumps ,pot holes and other crappy drivers on the road .
Cracker content. Clay you need to pay Shady from Master Automotive a visit. Most knowledgeable rotary specialist in Sydney and always willing to share ideas. He’ll show you some insane builds.
How many rotary-powered vs piston-engine vehicles have you owned? The reason I ask is because while I have owned several RX-7s that have managed well over 250k miles on the original factory engines, each of my Mazdas that did so were non-turbo and maintained religiously. I had a 1985 GSL-SE that made it to 270k miles before I sold it to a friend, but the very first RX-7 I ever owned (and my most beautiful example) was an '89 GTUs. That car had 198k miles on it when I bought it, and I daily drove it for years. Unfortunately, I was T-boned by a drunk driver going 50 MPH in the middle of an intersection. It had 319k miles on it when it was totalled... all on the original engine, never rebuilt. That was a sad day. I swear, that '89 felt as though it had at least another couple hundred thousand miles left in it. I stayed on top of the oil, used a little rotary pre-mix additive every now and then, and made sure it held solid compression. It was such an awesome little car, and by far the best condition FC3S I ever owned. In total, I've owned 4 RX-7s; 2 first gens, and 2 second gens. I had a matte black 12A-powered '79, the '85 GSL-SE, the '89 GTUs, and a 1990 Turbo-II. The only car I had to invest a significant amount of time and money into was the Turbo-II. That car was a blast, but it was not without its issues. Still, I'd take another one on as a weekend project, but truth be told, I'm either going to end up with a third gen (FD3S) or a 930 Porsche 911. So, what rotary-powered cars have you owned? Do you still own any? Cheers.

Damn AUSSIE GIRLS NO WHATZUP 😘😘😂both those SE7ENS sound good man but the black one when Clay let's off sounds like a fire traveling through a barrel so nuts
ok so I'm looking to get an rx7 but the more research I do, the more conflicted I get. Should I get one from the Japan auctions or here in Australia? Are the prices on Carsales ridiculous or are they worth it? Start stock & slowly build or buy one with some decent mods already? I've had a jdm before but never a rotary.
13:02 i remember being in bumper to bumper traffic heading to the gold coast on a sunday around mt gravatt on the highway. i got sick of changing gears so i just left it in 1st (FC RX7) there was a car next me with a kid in the back seat, he had been smiling at the noise for awhile, but when i left it in 1st and got up to 80kph and let off the accelerator his face went to terror from the noise that ensued. he started crying and his mother death stared me and put up the windows. :P

Just came across your channel and shocked you dont have a mill subscribers. Good quality vids and you seem like a cool person.
Ever since you got a rx7 and so much rotary content your channel grew on me love the content keep it coming clay
Very nice to see these cars getting some love. Kinda tired of seeing all the Supra’s and Skyline’s dominating TH-cam. Good job Clay.
Semi peripheral turbo is so sick better than bridgeport turbo. Im hooked

It’s ok I’ll just drive around in first gear 💪🏼😎👌🏼
Not in NZ, maybe in country’s with rules, we drive PPz everywhere
Nz has no restrictions on porting rotarys

2 great tuned car examples. Good for those owners. FD is a classic masterpiece.

Ye, peripheral helps high end and bridge helps with lower rpm applications. Along with other things but yeah.
How sick are both those rides. Good to see you blasting around my local streets. Love it 👍👍👍
I came for the Rotarys!
Gorgeous cars, I love the sound of the bridgy, soo krispy especially when that gate hits ❤ gorgeous 👌🏽thank you all for the content 🫡
I'm not a fan of yellow cars in general but the FD does the color soo much justice!
This makes me miss my first car. 88 RX7 SE 5spd Ported, MSD Ignition pack, headers and Apexi N1 Exhaust. FD was always the dream car though!!

The exhaust valve on the yellow one sounds crazy!

Outside of a '90s GT-R (Nismo fan here, RB is just sick sounding 😅), a ported FD would be amazing, complete with off throttle "flamethrower" exhaust!
This video made me giggle like a little kid so so much awesome
Wow that how you drive a rotary engine car , I'm love how you guy drives

10 second 1/4 cars??? Nice video!
definitely this music make our stress away, brings the smile
Can't believe I've been sleeping on you dude! Great video. Much love. Both those fellas should reach out to rob dahm to unlock ultimate+
The bridge sounds slightly better, maybe due to exhaust set up but the Simi PP is probably easier to live with
🔥🔥🔥 love the ported taco sounds and acceleration!
Loving the Rotarys dude
More rotary content Clay!
Fantastic sounds quality
Awesome Cars my dream car and nice video thanks for sharing, 30:27 how scary !!!!!!
Bridgey for the win. That braps hard.
Man that sun really messed the video up
Awwwww the old RX🥰 so glad it went to someone who turned it into a proper monster! 🤙

funny his plate is ARKHAM on a FD and my FD is DRKNYT
I really love black.... just black on black 😅😅
They both sound insane bro wtfff that’s hectic 🤙🏽
That black car definitely has a t51r mod on the Garrett turbo. Having a g42 myself those turbos are notoriously quiet
No t51r mod I can promise you that if you have one I can get it to make the noise
@@benji_arkham very much interested loll I have a Garrett g42-1200c on a 13b as well.

Semi pp is a better option. Huge airflow and more reliability than the bridge port
What is the maintenance cycle like on these? I want to buy an Rx7 so bad but the maintenance just seems like rebuilds every 2 oil changes.
tuff FDs! top vid bruz
Love it wong tym
so close till 100k subs you really deserve it

nothing like a plane motor in a car, holy crap
Not a plane motor lol thats a different type of rotary engine.

Bridgeport only for noise makes not more power PP or monster will tho.

FD’s and Rotors all day. Ya’ll can keep your Supras and 2j’s.
