    B4 The Lost City was the very first D&D module I bought so it holds a special place for me. So I jumped on this book as soon as it became available, and I was not disappointed.
    The updated module is fine but something not too hard to do. The fleshed out and expanded areas, especially the titular City and its adjacent dungeons, along with all the expanded artwork is where this book really shines. Love the Dripping Nadir.
    Goodman has done a great job again, and I am hyped for Temple of Elemental Evil.

    I love the extra information added to this one. But the maps strike me as strange, since they are a mix of hatching for walls (instead of solid black), and single line walls on other plans. The art style reminds me of Cracked magazine.

    My only complaint about the reincarnated books, is that each one is printed slightly different from the others. Some volumes are taller than others, some have a flat binding While others have a curved binding. A very minor nitpick, but for someone used to uniformity on their shelf it's a little Annoying LOL

    FYI, you can use Microsoft Lens or a similar app on a cell phone to take a picture of the handouts. The Lens program will filter and flatten the image automatically to a form that you can then easily print or forward to your players.

    You seem to have some market influence going strong.
    This is the best B module.

    Elder Cosmic Horror Worshipped by Sacrifice!!!

    This is irrelevant to this video, but I thought I’d share because of the fun factor. Tomb of Horrors. A LOT. of D&D players HATE it. I’ve managed to find the PERFECT place for it. Simply make a few small alterations to it and just slot that puppy in as a mission the next time the Paranoia RPG hits your game table. The setup is fairly simple. Have an earthquake happen and somewhere, in the Alpha Complex, a wall falls down or there’s a landslide, and it opens a hole into the long, sealed off and forgotten TOh Sector. The sector was previously the domain of a single Ultra-Violet level, genius engineer who was accidentally sealed in there centuries ago. He went crazy, and paranoid, and re-designed the whole place to keep the Commies and mutants out. Just send those unsuspecting Troubleshooting PC’s into that first hallway with the goal of exploring and re-claiming the sector for the Alpha Complex and watch them blunder headfirst into trap after trap after-insta-kill trap. Then watch them fight. Force each other to go first, or order each other to touch stuff.. etc.. i Ran Tomb of Horrors in Paranoia and it was hilarious. The module provides so many opportunities for players to kind of.. manipulate other player’s characters into those MANY traps by “accident”. I just had to share this because we just played this adventure and it was a “Blast”!

And I was hoping to buy the lost city by them as well, but they are no longer printing it, and scalpers have bought up the rest and are charging $300 - $400 for it online. I happened to have bought this a few weeks go as I have been looking for old desert-setting modules to stich together to form my own alternate to Al-Qadim for a homebrew 2e game. I generally like this adventure setting, though it does suffer from the overpopulated dungeon trope that a lot of the older modules feature. I have trouble justifying in my own head-canon the presence of so many large predators like giant scorpions, where are the bees collecting pollen, and why are the NPCs in the lower pyramid levels seemingly fine with having been walled off from the upper levels? I feel like the actual city's underdark area needs to be much bigger to explain food supply, and I'd want to establish the Zargonite Hobgoblin cultists in the setting before player characters stumble across this supposedly lost pyramid in the desert, possibly the other Cults as well. The Brotherhood of Gorm could serve as a secretive elite mercenary force akin to the Immortals in 300, or the Magi of Usamigaras as a secret society within the ranks of the local mage's guild. Alternatively, if one wants to keep it set in Mystara, I would suggest switching the setting from Ylaurum to the Sind desert, and use it in conjunction with the Master of the Desert Nomads and the Temple of Death modules to form a full campaign for characters native to the Sind, instead of Darokin Mercenaries

    • @captcorajus
      @captcorajus  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As with most of D&D a good mix of classes is recommended. This module is potentially a meat grinder, and it could be played that way, but the real charm of the module is when the players interact with the citizens of Cynedicea. They could even join a faction, and help restore the city to its former glory, and that sounds like an epic story. Obviously the fight with the evil entity Zargon who is the progenitor of the evil that has befallen the place is certainly going to be the highlight.

    If you did this with BX starting as level 2 maybe, what level do you think you’d be by the end if you did all the extra bits they’ve added on? I mean, it’s a pretty major campaign by the looks of it. • @captcorajus
      @captcorajus  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm sorry my friend, but that's simply not the case. I've been purchasing PDFs off Drivethrurpg for the entire time they've been around and in the beginning that may very well have been the case, it hasn't been that way for years. They are constantly updating their scans, and you can check for updates and redownload them.
      A few examples of this off the top of my head are the 'Veiled Society' scan didn't initially have a scan of the card stock buildings that were included in that set.
      Quite a few of the PDFs I have are now high quality editable PDFs where is the pirated ones are not.
      Quite a few of the original scans had poster maps 'chopped up' are now full, complete poster scans. Many of the scans are a combination of PDFs AND JPEG images of full complete maps.
      One of the things I do with all my reviews is use my affiliate commissions to download the pdfs off their website and check the quality of them before I recommend them.
      While certainly, there are poor scans there, to be sure, drivethru rpg is actively seeking quality books to scan and replace those poor ones when possible.
