I cut my teeth on B/X and 1e. But even then we didn’t bother with segments and weapon speeds. 1e’s RAW combat is its greatest failing, followed very closely by different ability score maximums based on sex. Most other things, even the quirkiest ones, are fun and endearing. OSRIC presents this system very well.

For playing with pre teen children I run Whitebox. Heck I run it for teens and adults too. Whitebox is a much cleaned up version of OD&D just like OSRIC is a much cleaned up version of 1E. If a person is concerned that OSRIC is too much at once start them with Whitebox and graduate them to OSRIC as they get comfortable with the base rules. That's the way we did it back in the day I started with Redbox becmi and graduated to 1E where I spent almost two decades before ever buying 2E which in retrospect wasn't needed.

Whitebox or OSE Classic (or B/X, or LL) are the best intro systems for younger players.

When we were kids we played 1e and the Box set rules. I just got a copy of OSRIC. Easy to read and it is faithful to 1e. I think Old School Essentials is even easier to pick up but OSRIC is 1e so there you go.

I really liked the clean and neat presentation of OSRIC. I agree about OSE being a little easier, too. Thanks for the comment!

I just received mine from Black Blade a few days ago. Beautiful book! I no longer have my 1st ed books so this is nice to have and I like it a lot better than the 1e books. Heck I like it better than the 2e books that I still have a set of.

OSRIC in hardcover = awesome. Softcover though equals broken binding (just too thick).

Love it. The hardback version is super sturdy.

A very pretty book! Thnx for the review! 👍🤓 So excited to see and hear from another Pastor who's also a gamer and is producing TH-cam content that is definitely family-friendly! Thank you sir and God bless!

Yep maybe it's that we are old throwbacks but I have a hard time reading the full color books. That was the thing I didn't like about 2E and many other games. I want my game books in B&W cuz it's easier for me to read.

I totally agree! B&W books are much better for in-game use.
