    This series of presentations has actually been a mind-blower. There’s almost no aspect of my own interests - from community organizing through therapeutic counseling - that it didn’t touch on. The social basis of rights, if I can put it that way, is particularly profound I think, and maybe the ultimate refutation of Hobbes‘s argument? All that aside you’ve invigorated my interest in Arendt’s work in a way I could not have anticipated, so thank you.

    Traditionally, people have duties toward their neighbors, not so much rights. God prescribes duties and obligations. If we have no obligation to treat our neighbors well, having the "right" to be treated well is meaningless.

    Reading Arendt has proved to be tricky sometimes, but this video gave me a great base understanding before going into the chapter. I was able to focus a lot more on the nuances of her argument rather than devoting attention to figuring out what the argument is at large. Concise, and the quote selection is great. Thanks, Professor.
