That was probably done to refine the course. You have to remember Vancouver is where city tracks STARTED to get good.... look at hoe excellent the 22-23 city tracks are. LAP 2 is fine but yeah lap 3 was the snoozer... at least they are different and forward moving each time. The use of VVR1 wouldhave been more interesting but whatever its here and its different and it's shorter every lap. My bias. It A or B+ for me

As much as I enjoy your discussions, I think a lot of your analysis are genuinely really good and-even if I disagree with them-I’m still 100% on board with your takes of tracks that contradict mine, however, I feel like I can’t agree with your simplistic debate. A track can be simplistic like LA or Moonview and still be a really fun and enjoyable experience. Not every course needs to have an overly complex layout or overly ambitious theme to be good. That’s part of the reason I really enjoy Paris Promenade. It’s by no means a special track, but it’s cozy and the fairly simple nature of it makes it incredibly enjoyable and relaxing to play through. Simplicity isn’t necessarily a bad thing, and I’d say in terms of fun-factor, the more simplistic tracks this wave really do deliver.
Great point! I've noticed this a lot in various discussions. There's nothing wrong with a simple layout, you need to have some Flower Cup style tracks thrown in there. Glad someone mentioned this!
that moonview highway remix is so good that it justifies the whole booster course pack's existence for me. oh yeah i guess the courses are pretty good too
Moonview Highway is honestly one of the better if not best city track in MK8 because of the bobomb cars. They not only explode if you crash into them, you can also fire items into them to make them explode which adds a whole layer of strategy and chaos the other tracks lack.
@@GVGLA Laps is also fairly unique amongst City tracks- due to the way that the course is constructed, it's one of if not the only Tour City Tracks that's a completely segmented track.

I agree with Steve, I'm a sucker for tracks that are mini environments and the bathroom one looks so much fun and gorgeous, it's a clear favourite! The Vancouver one looks fun as well, I like the trees and the leaves on the ground and the colour of it. I never played the original Sunset Wilds and the idea of the sunset actually influencing the track sounds great, it adds a lot more character to the track, but as it is now, I do like that warm colour and it looks nice. I understand the massive disappointment, of course, they took something essential to the track. (I have yet to play it!)
Sunset Wilds was one of my favorite courses from Super Circuit, and I hate how it was done so dirty here. I hope Nintendo adds the time of day shift in a patch. That said, the music is a total banger and feels very Toy Story/Pixarish. Athens, Vancouver, and Squeaky Clean Sprint were the highlights for me for this wave and I'd probably put them all on the S tier.
Disappointed with Koopa Cape. The water on the slide feels much slower than in Mario Kart Wii. It was in this way in MK7, and bummed it's this way too.

I have never seen an entire community just hate one visual change so much as no nighttime in Sunset Wilds. I mean, they even said, that even if they added that, the course itself is fairly bland to barely lift it up. It's not like the turning into night somehow changes the level layout to be more interesting. It feels like there are way more issues the track than just no nighttime. it really reminds me of the whole dexit situation for SWSH. That game had way worse issues and people latched on to the least problematic one.
Well when the track layout doesn't have a lot going for it even in the original honestly, the aesthetics could have lifted it with something that previous versions of the track had anyways. Unfortunately, that's not here
I agree with this take. I'm only mildly disappointed with the static visuals of the sky, but it's no deal breaker because it doesn't factor into the actual gameplay of the track. The track layout itself is only fine anyway, it wasn't anything to write home about before and it isn't much now. Serviceable is how I would describe it, but not above other GBA tracks in the pass like Boo Lake or Snow Land.

Oil fields are all over L.A. I grew up in the inner city. Drive down La Cienga Blvd off of Slauson, near the Fox hills mall. Oil field with the pumps are all around there and Keneth Hahn park. I saw them everyday as a kid taking the bus from inner city L.A. to the Valley for school. Those oil pumps on the track made me instantly think of L.A. The original Randy’s Donuts is in Inglewood, those oil pumps are in the actually city of L.A. I agree though, is a great track that represents the city.
I agree with all your opinions about sunset wilds. It's awful, the shy guys do nothing, it's flat, the visuals are boring, the sunset sucks....but guys...it's tar. It's shiny and sticky and it gives off a glare in the sunset. You guys have never seen tar fields before?
I always love seeing the returning GBA tracks so even though I know Sunset Wilds isn't spectacular, I still really love it. the musics a bop and its nostalgic for me. I do wish the sunset gimmick was there though
It feels like there’s at least one bummer course every wave, them either being “why this over that, even though it’s decent enough?” or it just sucks. Now, the last wave has the Blue Shell cup, and in that cup specifically, I refuse to accept anything that’s not four Rainbow Roads (GBA, GCN, DS, Wii).
@NelStone1 I actually like it because it can be open since now you can have a kart submerged under water now so it makes sense. They can't just keep a course the same, they need to change some things to make this version distinct
It’s weird, I like what they did with Cruiser and Moonview, but Koopa Cape is the one where I think the changes hurt it the most. Still have fun on it cause it’s Koopa Cape, but it’s not the best version of it
Sunset Wilds looks incomplete; maybe they'll patch in the sunset to evening change? Back when they announced these DLC packs, they said they weren't adding characters. But now that they're adding new characters, I'm hoping they add Kirby to the roster. I've wanted him in ever since he raced with the characters on Rainbow Road in Rosalina's Smash Bros trailer.
Its kinda baffling that theres a track like squeeky clean sprint in this pass It feels like a base game course with its detail and visuals. In a dlc thats been kinda middling its crazy. I just learned about the secret passes!
What I think is even stranger is that Squeaky Clean Sprint like every other track in the Booster Course Pass are made for Tour before being ported to 8 Deluxe. Tour has its questionable nitros and retros but there’s definitely some gems like this.
If there were two courses that pretty much hit on all cylinders, it's Yoshi's Island and Squeaky Clean Sprint. Retros, City tracks or any other Nitro are up for debate.
I wish Sunset Wilds retained the Shy Guys clinging onto the racers if you hit their tents. THAT is the gimmick I remember from that track the most! And it's a major shame the GBA tracks have been pretty hit or miss. That game has some pretty great tracks but the feel of Super Circuit is pure pain. Like driving on ice the entire time. This was Sunset Wilds' chance to show its stuff but it's a dud.
My ideal mario kart track has a strong theme that carries through the layout, scenery and obstacles. Squeaky Clean Sprint is such a great addition to this game.

Could also be a way to re-review your scoring of the past tracks if you had any second opinions. Edit: Never mind, near the end you said you'd be doing that anyway post Wave 6. With Daisy cruiser there are a lot of things making it worse than the double dash version: You couldn't go through the water, which made a big difference. There was only one way around the pool which made that part tighter and you had to fight your way. Falling and going through the pipe was slower, it isn't now. And at the end you had those lifesaver rings that could knock you out. All that challenge is gone. Which is a shame!
I have no idea why I hate Koopa cape and Waluigi stadium so much, but I REALLY don't like them. And everyone went nuts they got in! So good for you guy's, happy we have such a big set of different courses! (I really like Toad circuit, and I'm in the minority there too!)
Am I the only person that thinks the windows in the nighttime city tracks (Moonview Highway, NY Minute especially) look pretty terrible? Like those flat, solid colored windows… major pet peeve
Gotta disagree on the visuals being better, it depends on the track. Athens looks extremely basic regardless of it using the Tour art style. It would look gorgeous if it was using the base MK8 graphics, the buildings and trees look pretty bad when compared to other tracks in the game. Also disappointed that we got Daisy cruiser AGAIN since we got it in Wii, 7, and Tour. Would've much more preferred another gcn course like WARIO COLISEUM

Heh, looks like Sunset Wilds will join Tokyo Blur and Sky Garden as a course I love, but everyone else hates. First off: YES, they should fix the skybox/lighting in GBA Sunset Wilds, make it an actual sunset. IDK why it's like that, maybe it is the filter, but I saw a video of someone, within hours of launch, mod a transition in. Wasn't perfect, he admitted it, but it was pretty good for the time spent; again, why Nintendo went the route they did is beyond me. Now then, regarding Wave 6: There are two new courses with similar names in Tour (Piranha Plant Cove and Piranha Plant Pipeline) that will probably be added, and I'm not sure how that'll work out; the themes are different enough, though Pipeline might be too similar to 3DS PP Slide, so it might not even be considered. But if we consider what's already in Tour AND past leaks and datamines [thank you Mario Party Legacy for already compiling the following data]: There are 16 unique (enough) characters across all games not yet in 8D: Pauline, Diddy Kong, Funky Kong, Dixie Kong, Hammer Bro, Nabbit, Monty Mole, Chargin' Chuck, Poochy, King Bob-omb, DK Jr., Paratroopa, R.O.B., Honey Queen, and I guess we can count Captain Toad and Peachette. Of them, personally, my money's on Pauline; Mario Odyssey effectively put her back on the radar, and she's already made playable appearances in every other Mario side-game on NS. Beyond that, there's really no guarantee for anyone else, even the Kongs. My thinking is that they'd want to keep some consistency with the base roster, with non-Mario characters (and Mii) on the bottom row. One might say R.O.B., being a legacy, would fit in that case, but me, I want them to go BIG. Like, let's say... 3rd-party. Let's also say... Sonic the Hedgehog. (Long-shot, I know) Out of all tracks in Tour (not counting Remix, and all variants combined), 3 originals are currently not in 8D: the previously mentioned Piranha Plant tracks, and Tour Rome Avanti. If the datamine is still to be believed, we could also expect one of 8 SNES and one of 3 GCN tracks, but I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo mixed things up for the finale. I could see one of the 3DS Wuhu Island tracks making the cut, and Wii Rainbow Road seems like a favorite to end the DLC. We could probably use a Bowser's Castle before it... OR if I end up being right about Sonic, it could be themed after Dr. Eggman, something between the "Final Fortress"-based tracks in TSR or possibly a take on "Eggmanland"/"Crimson Carnival" from Sonic Unleashed- WOW, that sounds even less likely. Or I, and possibly any number of people, could be totally wrong and Nintendo could throw a curveball at us. What do you think?
You know, if I never saw the trailer or if I randomly started the course, I would of thought that Athens Dash could have been The Sand Kingdom from Odyssey. Which reminds me, we need a New Donk City course for wave 6
Spoilers for Wave 6 at the bottom of the comment: Wave 5 Ranking for me: S: Athens Dash A: Moonview Highway and Vancouver Velocity, Daisy Cruiser, and Koopa Cape B: Squeaky Clean Sprint and Los Angeles Laps C: Sunset Wilds Anyway from what the datamine ID leaks suggest in Wave 6, most likely the 8 tracks coming will be SNES Bowser’s Castle 3, GCN Mushroom Bridge, GCN DK Mountain, Wii Rainbow Road, Tour Rome Avanti, Piranha Plant Cove, and Piranha Plant Pipeline. There’s also one more city track we haven’t yet seen coming to Wave 6 which will most likely be based in Madrid Spain due to its ID being labeled as mobMD in the Mario Kart Tour files. Granted, none of these are confirmed to be the tracks coming but from what the missing prefixes are, these are the most likely tracks to fill these spots.
With squeaky clean sprint where they are saying its a bidet. wouldnt it shoot at an angle from the back of the toilet lid, not the direct middle of the toilet? It definitely isnt a bidet, that my friend is just doodoo water spraying up from the middle of the toilet Edit: also with tracks like the vancover and the los angeles maps, id put them at a C because they made the crowds that you pass in the stadiums VERY noticeably 2D models with choppy framerate. I understand why they made it that way in those maps but at that point just remove a big chunk of the crowd so you can use 3D models Dumb nitpick but it just bugs me
The Super Circut remakes are the most interesting and inconsistent remakes in Mario Kart 8 DX. Sometimes you get a Riverside Park where it elevates everything good about the original, and sometimes you get a Sunset Wilds or Cheese Land where they destroy the aethetic appeal of the original
Look, in no way would I think Sunset Wilds is as bad as Toad Circuit. At least Sunset Wilds LOOKS nice. It may have a watered down layout and it may not have it's gimmick, but at least it's not a directly ported, Mushroom Cup opener. I respect the opinion, but I think Sunset Wilds is getting judged a little too harshly.

I had to play Kamek first out of respect (and missing the Magikruiser from Wii), but who could resist the allure of riding Wild Wiggler as Wiggler at least once?
I've made my peace with Toad Circuit being here, but I've always wondered why they didn't push for either Daisy Hills or Shy Guy Bazaar instead considering they too are MK7 Mushroom tracks but with more depth and personality.
I think Moonview benefits a lot from having the Dash Panel locations change between playthroughs. Really spices up the track with the reduced traffic. Definitely not deserving of a C
I've put at least 500 hours into Mario kart 8 on both Wii U and Switch and i absolutely loved the DLC on Wii U as it felt of the exact same quality as the rest of the game, but honestly i've played the first 2 waves i believe and i lost interest in these new ones, they don't stack up in any way to the rest of the game.
Looking back overall, the only ones I really liked was Daisy Cruiser, Los Angeles Laps & Vancouver Velocity. Moonview Highway looks amazing aesthetgically, but just like in MKWii, I'm not a fan of the course due to not been a fan of tracks with oncoming traffic. Koopa Cape (which I keep forgetting originated in MKWii) is one that I find pretty boring, but I think that might of been due to me using that track the most on Mario Kart 7 if anything. Athens Dash is okay, as for Sunset Wilds, I found myself to be rather disappointed by it as it was a course I was excited to see based on the original GBA version. Don't really care for the Bathroom Course either
I really really wish the suspension bridge in Vancouver was used more than just in the first lap. That is my favorite part by far.

I liked Vancouver because of the zero gravity bridge as well as the hockey rink. That’s why I’d put it in A

I have never seen an entire community just hate one visual change so much as no nighttime in Sunset Wilds. I mean, they even said, that even if they added that, the course itself is fairly bland to barely lift it up. It's not like the turning into night somehow changes the level layout to be more interesting. It feels like there are way more issues the track than just no nighttime.
it really reminds me of the whole dexit situation for SWSH. That game had way worse issues and people latched on to the least problematic one.
Well when the track layout doesn't have a lot going for it even in the original honestly, the aesthetics could have lifted it with something that previous versions of the track had anyways. Unfortunately, that's not here
I agree with this take. I'm only mildly disappointed with the static visuals of the sky, but it's no deal breaker because it doesn't factor into the actual gameplay of the track. The track layout itself is only fine anyway, it wasn't anything to write home about before and it isn't much now. Serviceable is how I would describe it, but not above other GBA tracks in the pass like Boo Lake or Snow Land.

Oil fields are all over L.A. I grew up in the inner city. Drive down La Cienga Blvd off of Slauson, near the Fox hills mall. Oil field with the pumps are all around there and Keneth Hahn park. I saw them everyday as a kid taking the bus from inner city L.A. to the Valley for school. Those oil pumps on the track made me instantly think of L.A. The original Randy’s Donuts is in Inglewood, those oil pumps are in the actually city of L.A. I agree though, is a great track that represents the city.
Definitely recommend listening to the original music for LA Laps; it is MUCH better then MK8's remix!

I always love seeing the returning GBA tracks so even though I know Sunset Wilds isn't spectacular, I still really love it. the musics a bop and its nostalgic for me. I do wish the sunset gimmick was there though
It feels like there’s at least one bummer course every wave, them either being “why this over that, even though it’s decent enough?” or it just sucks. Now, the last wave has the Blue Shell cup, and in that cup specifically, I refuse to accept anything that’s not four Rainbow Roads (GBA, GCN, DS, Wii).

My problem is how they've nerfed some of these tracks - challenge in Moonview Highway and Koopa Cape and Daisy Cruiser all lowered and worse for it.
Moonview's traffic should be faster and I wish Koopa Cape kept the old version of the tunnel.
I can't hate Koopa cape, it's an easy A tier for me. It's an S in MKWII though
@NelStone1 I actually like it because it can be open since now you can have a kart submerged under water now so it makes sense. They can't just keep a course the same, they need to change some things to make this version distinct

It’s weird, I like what they did with Cruiser and Moonview, but Koopa Cape is the one where I think the changes hurt it the most. Still have fun on it cause it’s Koopa Cape, but it’s not the best version of it

Back when they announced these DLC packs, they said they weren't adding characters. But now that they're adding new characters, I'm hoping they add Kirby to the roster. I've wanted him in ever since he raced with the characters on Rainbow Road in Rosalina's Smash Bros trailer.

It feels like a base game course with its detail and visuals. In a dlc thats been kinda middling its crazy. I just learned about the secret passes!
What I think is even stranger is that Squeaky Clean Sprint like every other track in the Booster Course Pass are made for Tour before being ported to 8 Deluxe. Tour has its questionable nitros and retros but there’s definitely some gems like this.

If there were two courses that pretty much hit on all cylinders, it's Yoshi's Island and Squeaky Clean Sprint. Retros, City tracks or any other Nitro are up for debate.

I wish Sunset Wilds retained the Shy Guys clinging onto the racers if you hit their tents. THAT is the gimmick I remember from that track the most! And it's a major shame the GBA tracks have been pretty hit or miss. That game has some pretty great tracks but the feel of Super Circuit is pure pain. Like driving on ice the entire time. This was Sunset Wilds' chance to show its stuff but it's a dud.

My ideal mario kart track has a strong theme that carries through the layout, scenery and obstacles. Squeaky Clean Sprint is such a great addition to this game.

Vancouver Valocity was a huge highlight for me in this and i was not a fan at all of Koopa Cape. Different strokes for different folks i guess.

With Daisy cruiser there are a lot of things making it worse than the double dash version:
You couldn't go through the water, which made a big difference. There was only one way around the pool which made that part tighter and you had to fight your way. Falling and going through the pipe was slower, it isn't now. And at the end you had those lifesaver rings that could knock you out.
All that challenge is gone. Which is a shame!
This is how I've felt with the majority of retro tracks, they take out the challenges. It makes me sad!
I have no idea why I hate Koopa cape and Waluigi stadium so much, but I REALLY don't like them.

Am I the only person that thinks the windows in the nighttime city tracks (Moonview Highway, NY Minute especially) look pretty terrible? Like those flat, solid colored windows… major pet peeve
Gotta disagree on the visuals being better, it depends on the track. Athens looks extremely basic regardless of it using the Tour art style. It would look gorgeous if it was using the base MK8 graphics, the buildings and trees look pretty bad when compared to other tracks in the game. Also disappointed that we got Daisy cruiser AGAIN since we got it in Wii, 7, and Tour. Would've much more preferred another gcn course like WARIO COLISEUM

Heh, looks like Sunset Wilds will join Tokyo Blur and Sky Garden as a course I love, but everyone else hates. It should've kept its sunset gimmick, but the banger music and general design keeps me happy.
As for Squeaky Clean Sprint, that's a definite S tier for sure. I also put Los Angeles Laps as another S-tier...if only because it reminds me of the California lifestyle I miss so dearly.

Moonview is S for me, not gonna lie.
First off: YES, they should fix the skybox/lighting in GBA Sunset Wilds, make it an actual sunset. IDK why it's like that, maybe it is the filter, but I saw a video of someone, within hours of launch, mod a transition in. Wasn't perfect, he admitted it, but it was pretty good for the time spent; again, why Nintendo went the route they did is beyond me.
Now then, regarding Wave 6:
There are two new courses with similar names in Tour (Piranha Plant Cove and Piranha Plant Pipeline) that will probably be added, and I'm not sure how that'll work out; the themes are different enough, though Pipeline might be too similar to 3DS PP Slide, so it might not even be considered.
But if we consider what's already in Tour AND past leaks and datamines [thank you Mario Party Legacy for already compiling the following data]:
There are 16 unique (enough) characters across all games not yet in 8D: Pauline, Diddy Kong, Funky Kong, Dixie Kong, Hammer Bro, Nabbit, Monty Mole, Chargin' Chuck, Poochy, King Bob-omb, DK Jr., Paratroopa, R.O.B., Honey Queen, and I guess we can count Captain Toad and Peachette.
Of them, personally, my money's on Pauline; Mario Odyssey effectively put her back on the radar, and she's already made playable appearances in every other Mario side-game on NS. Beyond that, there's really no guarantee for anyone else, even the Kongs. My thinking is that they'd want to keep some consistency with the base roster, with non-Mario characters (and Mii) on the bottom row. One might say R.O.B., being a legacy, would fit in that case, but me, I want them to go BIG. Like, let's say... 3rd-party. Let's also say... Sonic the Hedgehog. (Long-shot, I know)
Out of all tracks in Tour (not counting Remix, and all variants combined), 3 originals are currently not in 8D: the previously mentioned Piranha Plant tracks, and Tour Rome Avanti. If the datamine is still to be believed, we could also expect one of 8 SNES and one of 3 GCN tracks, but I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo mixed things up for the finale. I could see one of the 3DS Wuhu Island tracks making the cut, and Wii Rainbow Road seems like a favorite to end the DLC. We could probably use a Bowser's Castle before it... OR if I end up being right about Sonic, it could be themed after Dr. Eggman, something between the "Final Fortress"-based tracks in TSR or possibly a take on "Eggmanland"/"Crimson Carnival" from Sonic Unleashed- WOW, that sounds even less likely.
Or I, and possibly any number of people, could be totally wrong and Nintendo could throw a curveball at us. What do you think?
You know, if I never saw the trailer or if I randomly started the course, I would of thought that Athens Dash could have been The Sand Kingdom from Odyssey.

Anyway from what the datamine ID leaks suggest in Wave 6, most likely the 8 tracks coming will be SNES Bowser’s Castle 3, GCN Mushroom Bridge, GCN DK Mountain, Wii Rainbow Road, Tour Rome Avanti, Piranha Plant Cove, and Piranha Plant Pipeline. There’s also one more city track we haven’t yet seen coming to Wave 6 which will most likely be based in Madrid Spain due to its ID being labeled as mobMD in the Mario Kart Tour files.
Granted, none of these are confirmed to be the tracks coming but from what the missing prefixes are, these are the most likely tracks to fill these spots.
With squeaky clean sprint where they are saying its a bidet. wouldnt it shoot at an angle from the back of the toilet lid, not the direct middle of the toilet? It definitely isnt a bidet, that my friend is just doodoo water spraying up from the middle of the toilet
Edit: also with tracks like the vancover and the los angeles maps, id put them at a C because they made the crowds that you pass in the stadiums VERY noticeably 2D models with choppy framerate. I understand why they made it that way in those maps but at that point just remove a big chunk of the crowd so you can use 3D models

The Super Circut remakes are the most interesting and inconsistent remakes in Mario Kart 8 DX. Sometimes you get a Riverside Park where it elevates everything good about the original, and sometimes you get a Sunset Wilds or Cheese Land where they destroy the aethetic appeal of the original

Look, in no way would I think Sunset Wilds is as bad as Toad Circuit. At least Sunset Wilds LOOKS nice. It may have a watered down layout and it may not have it's gimmick, but at least it's not a directly ported, Mushroom Cup opener. I respect the opinion, but I think Sunset Wilds is getting judged a little too harshly.

I think Moonview benefits a lot from having the Dash Panel locations change between playthroughs. Really spices up the track with the reduced traffic. Definitely not deserving of a C
Sunset wilds is objectively the best coarse ever created in any mario kart game to date. If you disagree you are wrong
I've put at least 500 hours into Mario kart 8 on both Wii U and Switch and i absolutely loved the DLC on Wii U as it felt of the exact same quality as the rest of the game, but honestly i've played the first 2 waves i believe and i lost interest in these new ones, they don't stack up in any way to the rest of the game.
Looking back overall, the only ones I really liked was Daisy Cruiser, Los Angeles Laps & Vancouver Velocity. Moonview Highway looks amazing aesthetgically, but just like in MKWii, I'm not a fan of the course due to not been a fan of tracks with oncoming traffic.
Koopa Cape (which I keep forgetting originated in MKWii) is one that I find pretty boring, but I think that might of been due to me using that track the most on Mario Kart 7 if anything. Athens Dash is okay, as for Sunset Wilds, I found myself to be rather disappointed by it as it was a course I was excited to see based on the original GBA version. Don't really care for the Bathroom Course either
