Very nice video! I came across the 19mph claim in a bug group on facebook and searched for the snail here because it does in fact seem like an impossible speed for a snail. Your video was one of the top results, so your fight was not in vain!
Im doing a report on native hawaiian snails and rosy wolfsnail is an invasive species here on the island of Oahu. I googled where the rosy wolfsnail is natively found and was BAFFLED that one of the first things that showed up was its speed claiming to be 19mph. My friend, who also studies science but not wildlife science like me, was also taken aback and proceeded to google how fast humans can run, dogs, cats etc to compare this wild 'fact' about this snail. thats when I fell into the same rabbit hole as you and thank god I found this video to debunk such crazy claims. You are doing the lords work...SERIOUSLY!
I did my own research on the rosy wolf spider and one NC Extension service called it a welcome visitor in the garden (because it ate other snails) and a Texas site and others called it invasive and a worry to biologists.
As an avid naturalist living in Florida, I am very familiar with euglandina rosea. And never ONCE have I seen a single specimen move any faster than a few mm/s I've also stumbled across the UF article claiming "19 mph" and thought it was absolutely absurd! 😂 I truly laughed out loud when I first read that. It's very sloppy writing on behalf of the university.
Gonna be honest, I saw the same article when reading about native snails of Florida. And that "fact" kinda blew my mind too. I was hoping you had a solid answer for it. XD
I remember reading long ago that the housefly can attain supersonic speeds -- IF IT WAS THE SIZE OF AN F-16. Is this FL blog estimating the speed of the Rosy Wolf Snail IF IT WERE THE SIZE OF A DRAGSTER?
Exactly what I was wondering! The snail that was timed in the video managed 10cm in 30 seconds, which scaled up would be 12 metres per hour. Given that, not impossible that the world record could be 19 metres per hour surely?
Duh… Is it me, or has people’s common sense left the planet. So, I will say the two words that has eluded everyone’s copy. "IN SCALE." That’s the first thing that crossed my mind. The left that part out.
I'm so sick and tired of people lying about snail speeds
Cannibal snails sludging towards you at 19mph is horrifying

Wow, that's a damn shame, but I don't expect anything less from the internet. Hope we get that snail facts video in the future though.
I know, it's definitely a double edged blade, the internet. And don't worry, snail facts video coming up soon!

Might mean 19 METERS per hour, but i didn’t do the math so probably not

There isn't a Snail anywhere in this world or any other World that has a top speed of 19 mph. Someone is smoking crack in Florida !
