Florida Manatees Are in Serious Trouble...
In what has been dubbed the "Manatee Unusual Mortality Event", Florida Manatees have realized a massive population decline since 2020. The State's Official Marine Mammal, Florida Manatees are currently starving to death at an unprecedented rate. While the warm summer months have brought them some reprieve, it is only a matter of time before the weather turns and supplemental feeding programs begin to commence again.

America's Lost Birds | The Extinct Bird Species of North America
มุมมอง 6K2 ปีที่แล้ว
Imagine an America teeming with native parrots, flocks of pigeons so large that they literally darkened out the sky, and ferocious apex predators capable of mauling a human to death before he even knew he was being stalked ... This description might sound nothing like modern day America, with its concrete jungles and urban sprawl, but if you were lucky enough to have lived in pre-colonial North...
Glycolysis Explained in Simple Terms | Cellular Respiration Part 1
มุมมอง 8422 ปีที่แล้ว
Learning about glycolysis and cellular respiration can be a terrible experience for many biology students. If you have a test coming up - I'm sorry - but hopefully this video will at least help you understand the basic underlying principles of glycolysis. I've found that learning the steps and names involved is much easier when you have a clear picture of what's actually going on. Here is a gly...
This Genetic Mutation Gives You Double Muscles
มุมมอง 12K3 ปีที่แล้ว
Myostatin is a protein responsible for inhibiting muscle cell growth. But what happens to muscle cells when you inhibit myostatin? Myostatin inhibition has been proven to increase muscle mass. Mutations in the myostatin gene have been observed in humans as well as in other animals. Researchers have even genetically altered certain breeds of livestock to produce more meat for the meat market. So...
This Snail is Destroying Hawaii's Ecosystems
มุมมอง 1.7K3 ปีที่แล้ว
The Rosy Wolf Snail was introduced onto the island of Hawaii in 1955 in a failed attempt as a biological control agent. The Rosy snail failed to reduce the population of its target species, the African Land snail, but it did succeed in causing the extinction of almost all of the native Hawaiian Snails. The Giant African Land Snail, an invasive species, has been wreaking havoc on Hawaiian ecosys...

The Biggest Debate In Biology
มุมมอง 6193 ปีที่แล้ว
Biologists know how to edit an organisms DNA, but they still don't have a solid answer for this seemingly simple question. The Species Problem has plagued biologists going back as far as Charles Darwin and Alfred Russel Wallace. It refers to a long standing disagreement between biologists over what the best definition for a species is. Most modern biology textbooks promote the biological specie...

Why Do These Lizards Have Spikes?
มุมมอง 2423 ปีที่แล้ว
The Eastern Fence Lizard has rough, pointed scales on its back, but what is their function? While the obvious answer seems to be "for protection," this may not actually be the case. This reptile is the only lizard that exhibits keeled scales in its range. Due to sexual selection, the males of this species evolved a bright, iridescent blue scutellation of the ventral scales. This arboreal lizard...
The Most Destructive Birds in North America

The European Starling was introduced to America in the late 1800s, and has been wreaking havoc on America's ecosystems ever since. You're wrong at 2:16 there's a scientific process can de-extinction which is more widely known as resurrection biology is a process which scientists are researching into which could possibly resurrect some animal species such as the wooly mammoth and the dodo. The process has been said to change the closest living species DNA and involves a embryo for a preserved DNA fragment to be added into a living mother of the closest living species. WARNING: (I have not worded all of this correctly so please refrain from arguing this statement, however I encourage you to do your own research)

North American predators are not used to hunting starlings, and have no adaptations that European predators have for it. What with evolving alongside the chatty menaces, they have a few tricks. Along with a few other things like the fact that botanically and animal wise they are like locusts with intelligence. And will strip places bare of resources quickly, they are a menace to themselves as well when invasive. Not to mention they try and nudge native species out of ecological niches, by competition or actual first degree premeditated.

Your video truly sucks. You promote bird "racism" and promote killing innocent birds, that are here through no fault of their own. Starlings make awesome pets. Mine has a large vocabulary and inderstands concepts. All these bird snobs kvetching about starlings probably do more damage to their beloved bluebirds and other native species by poisoning starlings. Predators eat the poisoned birds, guess what? They're poisoned too. All you psychos saying "bring back Starlicide" are ALL birds worst enemy. Starlings eat a shit ton of bugs and have saved farmers since their. introduction by devouring locusts, etc. Even Cornell and other important bird experts have stated that the role of starlings having a negative effect on agriculture has been greatly over-estimated. Anyone promoting poisoning anything is an effin' sociopath.

These little birds make wonderful pets, which the pet stores could implement them as 'PETS' and everyone can stop calling them PESTS , they do eat a lot of invasive bugs, make wonderful pets, if hand-fed, I have one who got out (a rescue) he even flew to me and landed on my arm, if you find babies there are people who often adopt them as pets but make sure they are not just 'killing' them if you adopt them out.

The native birds where I live sing like they are whistling and in a beautiful song. In comparison, starlings are ugly birds that scream at each other all day. They arrive in big flocks and scare the local birds away. They ravage your gardens in huge numbers, leaving damage to food crops. The unquestionable definition of "invasive species."

    • @FalconfromRF
      @FalconfromRF 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

I know, but, i'm still against poisoning. There were many cases of negative impacts of pesticide use all over world, despite it was done with good inventions. And, Starlicide also kills native birds, including Flickers. Europe entirely banned Starlicide (even as a method of invasive bird control), because it's use in Hungary for corvid control had caused problems for other species.

2:42 while I understand why they are problematic, and agree, I wouldn't say hating them is fair. I'm raising one that we found at a young age and they make amazing pets, the issue is more that we need to reduce the mass population (which I'd call unfortunate as they are living creatures). I don't blame the birds for being birds. If our ancestors caused this problem, then it is the job of us to find ways to manage, relocate, or remove the populations and our government is doing nothing to fund these efforts. As a rescue person, I would never blame my little Twig for being a starling. It is a human fault and error of action that needs funded to deal with. Call upon local government, find ways to manage the problems they cause. <3

America truly is the Promised Land, so many species of plants and animals (and people) do so much better here than on their home continents in the Old World! (Starlings, kudzu, bamboo, peacocks as some examples). Unfortunately, it kills native North American life. My theory is that North America geologically is so much like both Africa and Europe and was so central in prehistoric supercontinents that it is naturally beneficial to all life.
