    Love your videos, man! Obviously there are an unlimited amount of engine related videos on TH-cam but I gotta say yours are the best. Mainly because you talk like you're actually having a conversation with someone about it. Easy to listen and keep up.. Unfortunately I was looking for a different video but I watched anyways and learned about those gaskets lol next Vortec I work on I'll know now!

      @@rudyVvv3 Sorry, I don't have that info. The torque specs are rather low, so you could just make your own out of all-thread if you can't find any, but I'm sure some aftermarket company makes them.... maybe ARP?

    My crate engine 350 Vortec was using 2 qts oil in 750 miles ..I used these recommended gaskets and now
    it stays full of oil..I didn't see any smoke ...Glad I don't have to replace it....Thanks!

      I;m having the smoke issue on my GM Crate engine with only 9,000 miles... I thought it was the valve seals so I wasted a whole day replacing those and did nothing. I'm really hopeful now is only the gasket!

    These gaskets are the bees knees if done right..my skilled mechanic friend did this for me way back in '09 and they're still sealing tight with no leaks. Instead of permatex rtv he used Toyota seal packing 103 (FIPG) on the valleys. He's convinced that stuff is the best sealant on the market.

    Those dart vortecs looks very close to my summit vortecs. The intake ports oval top part is what looks the same I thought that was weird when I saw the summits but it makes me feel better the darts are the same. My oem vortecs are perfectly straight on the raised intake port section.

    How you doing my name is John I been a subscriber for about a year-and-a-half. I'm honestly very impressed and learned a lot from your videos my profession is collision repair and mechanic related to any collision damage. Unfortunately age is creeping up on me Collision repair life can be tough on the body and health, and I have both problems I'd love to feel the motor someday and you inspired me to do so I don't know just looks like something I'd like to do I didn't know it was so precise and I was ripping Motors apart when I was 8 years old normal workers and whatnot just to see how they worked. Well I'll get to the question and it's about a cylinder head I was watching you do and then you showed a shelf that had many of them and you said they were for sale well I'm working on a friend's car it's a 1970 Mach 3 Continental with a Ford 460 it has some issues I'd like to ask you questions if I could just to make sure I'm doing the right thing and researching before I do anything I think it needs heads because it doesn't have the hardened seats in them and I believe the valves are a little burnt on the ends so I'd like to know if I could for one purchase two cylinder heads from you and if I was able to email you or get in touch with you just to ask some questions of course it's a budget fix I would love to break it all down and rebuild it but once again I want to do the research before I could give a price and if I am making the right decision I believe it just needs the top-end done but I'll have to check clearances on the main bearings and what not so I have a few questions but most important the heads so if you could somehow get in touch I'd appreciate it, I would assume you could reply to this and I'm sure we could figure something out I could send you back the heads I have either to be repaired or you could keep them or just sell me ones you've already done, either way I know you're busy and I appreciate all you taught me and I'm sure everybody that watches you appreciates your hard work.

    you should make a video of the upgraded spider injector for the 5.7L also the gaskets on the two piece intakes are plastic as well and they like to leak right around the water ports and they will leak coolant and you won't know it til it's too late! I have dealt with Chevrolet intake gaskets for many years and have changed so many of them. Just thought it might be a cool video to make of the difference from the poppit style spider injector vs the new upgraded design which works so much better and they have so much better throttle response and performance.

    I have a old friend that worked in one of the plants where vortec engines were assembled, he said GM felt that the vertical bolts on the corners were enough to secure the intake with no leaks. Apparently they were wrong. I have gear head buddies that drill and tap the heads in that center area, they drill the intake first on a flat surface, then countersink the holes and use allen head bolts and seal them with a small amount of RTV silicon.

    • @bulletnova7637
      @bulletnova7637 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I forgot to mention that the intake they used was always a aftermarket variety, having extra material, I think the intakes of choice were either edelbrock or wieand manifolds.

It was using around half a gallon to a gallon of coolent ever 200 miles, it rarely smoke unless very cold or damp outside. The oil always looked good for a truck with 200,000 miles on it. I finally tore into the intake finding some mayo resido on the vaulve covers, the intake was ate up, i replaced them with Victor reins gaskets. Truck runs better and never smokes, tail pipe is always dry. I am still loosing coolent... it has a new waterpump,thermostat and radiator+ cap. Think these would work for me??

    Thanks a ton for all of this! Can you explain or better yet show the difference between 95 and earlier and 96-2000 sbc coolant bypass. I hear that the early engines had the hole below the water pump opening. Now the 96 up blocks don't have the extra passage as I understand.
    I hear coolant needs to circulate prior to the thermostat opening to prevent hot spots before the t-stat opens.
    How is this accomplished? And do you need to make any changes when Installing a Vortec style head on an earlier block or installing early heads on a Vortech block without the extra passage? I've heard some suggest drilling a hole... thoughts on that? Thanks again!

It's not a full race port, do you have any idea what might work? These look like they might fit the ports, but the intake bolt pattern is the old 1st gen , that's the trouble with aftermarket parts, I have the largest port gasket I could find, without getting a race port gasket, I even modified them a bit, I enlarged the gaskets, as far as I felt comfortable, they still are slightly small, thanks

      Whatever the manufacturer specs are. Used theses when I replaced mine. I’m not sure but I believe it was a low foot lbs spec. 12 or something like that. Replaced 1 1/2 yrs ago and have had no problem since.

    Hey Man first I want to thank you for always trying to help people with sound advice! I recently bought a 67 Impala that the previous owner did a Crate engine swap GM 350 HO With Vortec heads. He said the engine had less than 9,000 miles on it but when I bought the car it was smoking blue most of the time very little on idle most of the time when revving up. So the first thing I did of course was to bust my hum and replaced the valve steam seal while in the car (not fun) but I did nothing. So I'm thinking it has to ne this gasket because every plug has some light oil residue. They are new plugs too. I seriously doubt all 8 cylinder have bad rings... I just ordered this gasket set. I want to mention that this engine runs super nice a lot of power and it sound really healhy other than the annoying blue smoke/ What are your thoughts?

    I'm new to you our channel and I'm also new to Chevys so I have a few questions. First off I just got a 90 Corvette completely stock except for the exhaust. And in wanting to upgrade the heads but keep the TPI set up any advice would be helpful. I'm not wanting to dig to far into the motor the Corvette was my father's and has 95k on her and runs strong but definitely has room for improvement.

      DO NOT recommend use regular Felpro plastic. Same junk as factory. These are call Superseal Felpro.

    Hey do you use RTV on that gasket or install as is? If you can make a video on the proper way to install so one don't end up taking it all apart like I just did that would be great.

    Any experience with the FelPro Vortec intake gaskets? They look much better than the OEM gaskets but they don't have the metal shim in them.

      @Myvintageiron7512  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I will never use a non metal gasket on a vortec again and by the way these gaskets in the video are Felpro

    seems like there is plenty of open room to drill and tap a couple bolts in that center area. why they are not there already is baffling to me, just looking at them here, even if there is water jacket behind, it's the same with other sbc heads, right?. someone screwed the pooch in the r&d dept at gm. haha

    • @Myvintageiron7512
      @Myvintageiron7512  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      With the factory vortec intake there is no room for those bolts but you are right drilling them out is a very good idea if your going with a carb

    Can a blown intake gasket cause engine to use oil? I have a crate 350 with Vortec heads that is using oil and fouling plugs in a pattern and I can’t get a straight answer if the intake can cause it. I know oil doesn’t run through the intake but is there another way oil can sneak through. It’s fouling 3,4,5,6; right in the center of the engine. I’m going to buy a leakdown tester just trying to borrow it down.

      Yes, recently installed Fel Pro Super Seals on 2003 S10 4.3L. Factory plastic on passenger side front was just on the verge of leaking near top of intake. Only 67K miles, been running ethylene glycol for many years too, which will help prevent since dexcool becomes very acidic when it ages.
