In order to get the injector seated All the way into the upper intake, what I did was squeeze the bracket (after removing the injector and then the bracket itself) just a little to help make it taller(an insignificant amount), clean the upper manifold where the oring will live with scotch brite (you want it SMOOTH) and I added grease to the oring and the surface the oring was going to slide on. With it still giving me a problem I used a small screw driver gently to help the injector while pressing the manifold down. Getting that injector to seat in the upper manifold is one of the biggest pains of the job. Get it wrong and your buying expensive parts or your injector plug will be coming loose and your truck will stop running. This is an exercise in finesse!
If you're having trouble getting the injector seated all the way on the intake plenum smear vaseline on the injector gasket and where it sits on the underside of the plenum, then it will slide right on. Although I'm not sure if that will cause any problems but that's what I read on a chevy forum, so I gave it a try, it worked.

I'm not losing coolant, but I feel like my gas mileage is becoming terrible and I have a vacuum leak somewhere because my recirculate for HVAC will randomly drop out. My '98 has 180k on the clock. My wife took it to Midas of all places for inspection (after specifically telling her NOT to go there) and they claimed I had an upper intake manifold leak. The bottom of my engine is wet with oil, and I noticed the upper intake plastic and valve covers are covered with oil/dirt which to me indicates that it's seeping. My pickle is that I'm not totally sure I have a leak and if I do the upper I might as well do the lower while I have everything apart. This seems like a fairly intimidating task to do. I have sprayed starting fluid around the seams trying to detect a change in idle but I really couldn't detect one. Right now it seems like I'm burning over a quarter tank of gas for 20 miles of driving!
Thanks a lot for this vid' . You indirectly showed me finally where the alleged 'purge valve/ solenoid' is hidden'. Terrific reference vid', I had not seen elsewhere !! (still lookin' for a similar vid' somewheres, re: my '82 f100 v6 M3oT, especially for an elusive o2 sensor. lol )
I have 1999 chevy k2500 and is making a hissing sound coming from the intake manifold. My question is should i just replace the intake gaskets ot go ahead and replace the intake manifold
You guys are awesome could this be the problem why my truck keeps stalling out when accelerating gas? Nothing wrong with the spider injectors just sounds like it’s getting to much air
At 3:25 of the video you show removing the injector connector. Does it affect operation of the injectors or just to help secure the injector cap? Asking because my suburban has a rough idle and the injector connector is hanging loose and I'm not able to connect it...not sure if damaged parts. The cap over the injector pins is tight without the injector connector being connected.
I removed MAF & throttle body, cleaned them... upper intake is very dirty , I want to clean the intake/around the spiders.. advice? I don’t really want to remove the entire manifold and throw it in a parts cleaner.. Engine shampoo do the trick? Thanks and great work
Do you guys have 2002 GMC Denali front bumper and grills? I tried looking for them on your website but maybe I'm not looking in the right spots with the right filters. How would I find them if you do have them ?
+Black Obs Thanks for checking us out! We suggest taking your vehicle to a nearby reputable shop to identify where the oil is coming from to determine what should get replaced.
1A Auto Parts the thing is here is that we don’t have reputable shops just a bunch of back yard mechanics and each one says something different the crank case is filled oil and rods as well are covered in that thick oil was thinking of cleaning it out and buying a intake from you guys
+Black Obs Thanks for watching! If you have the opportunity to clean the area out you should take the time to do so! The only time you need to replace this part is if it is cracked and has a leak, or the ports have become so clogged it cannot get cleaned out fully.
where do the nuts go? having trouble remembering where they went since some are on top of the studs. unable to see what bolts went where in this video which makes it difficult since they are all 10mm
+moses leathers Thank you for checking us out! The manifold that we took out of the vehicle was not broken, this was an instructional video to show how the manifold comes out, goes back in and that the other items fit the same as on the original manifold.
Why are you replacing the upper manifold? I am taking both manifolds off on a v6. The v8 is way easier. There is no joiner on the fuel lines and thee is an egr pipe that you will twist off too. I just watched to find out how the injectors were hooked into the upper in. manifold
OK, HOW COME YOU DO NOT SHOW USING SAME INTAKE GASKET OR SEALING A NEW GASKET ON, YOU SKIP RIGHT OVER IT,AND YOU INSTALL INTAKE STRAIGHT ON, NO GASKET REVIEWON
i have 5.7 in my 99 tahoe 4x4 .its been been back firing under the hood. well today i had big boom under the hood and the upper manifold exploded can anyone tell me what the root cause of that may be before i start replacement of manifold any help would be nice. thanks
Same thing happened to me. I believe my problem was the throttle body cover was loose and missing the thumb screw. I think it got too much air to fuel mix and exploded idk I could be wrong
It will usually launch the pcv control out of the intake, might actually break the upper intake when it happens. Vacuum leak, timing, spider injector leaking could all be potential root cause but thumb screw gone is a very popular one. Hard starting, back fires, smells of fuel, once it starts everything is fine.

Next video: how to repair [whatever part you broke while replacing the intake manifold bracket]. Stupid plastic Chevy parts
I laughed hard at this 😂 couldn’t agree more!!
Best video with the best explanation. I have little knowledge and I am about to attempt this.

Well done! Only thing is, the 'new' intake plenum was dirty, so it looked like the old one!
+Chris Cadman Thanks for the feedback!

So 88 INCH LBS at the end of the day on this?

I don’t really want to remove the entire manifold and throw it in a parts cleaner..
Engine shampoo do the trick? Thanks and great work
Do you need to drain the oil and also the antifreeze when doing this?
+Nathan Weibel You may want to if it is time to service those fluids
Do you guys have 2002 GMC Denali front bumper and grills? I tried looking for them on your website but maybe I'm not looking in the right spots with the right filters. How would I find them if you do have them ?
How come I can't get the injector unit to seat correct in manifold? It clicks in place but then moves around when car is running causing leaks
I added a tip for this just now. Look back in the comments. Good luck! We’re all counting on you.
So somebody use some type type of black Silicone gasket and the cover is completely stuck. Is there a way i can remove it without breaking anything
Hey Guys! THANK YOU SOOO MUCH FOR YOUR AWESOME VIDS!!! Question, do you have to use a 16mm "flare nut" wrench or will a regular 16 mm wrench work?
flare nut
You can use a regular wrench no problem I just did. Was very simple
What is the part that the vacuum booster hose come off of
I did this and found a lot of sludge like oil all over underneath should I clean it out and buy a new intake ?

what is the name of the part taken off the manifold at 12:21 and where can i find it
Piece of cake.....just gotta clean up this bloody mess.
+Michael Grey Thanks for checking us out! 1aau.to/m/Shop-1AAuto-c
How long does this take
Is the intake manifold aluminum
+Theodore Napoleon It is most likely steel, not aluminum. Thanks for watching.
Lower intake manifold is aluminum.
where do the nuts go? having trouble remembering where they went since some are on top of the studs. unable to see what bolts went where in this video which makes it difficult since they are all 10mm
+Kraig Soelter Thank you for checking us out. These should go over the bolts that will hold the cover in place.
What is gasket kit part number?
i own a repair shop and i drive a '79 chevy 1/2 ton 4x4, will never sell it; customers ask me why i have an old truck?
You said 18 inch pounds for the throttle body. It's 18 foot pounds.
why did you re install the old intake if it was broken?
+moses leathers Thank you for checking us out! The manifold that we took out of the vehicle was not broken, this was an instructional video to show how the manifold comes out, goes back in and that the other items fit the same as on the original manifold.
I think I saw a family of mice in the air box.
i did this before maybe not the same way though...it took me about 5 or 6 hours

They literally put the old intake on 😅
Doesnt coolant flow into the upper intake
no it doesn't
