I have been on the Midway tour twice. In my younger days I was stationed on the USS Constellation CVA/CV 64 1973 to 1977. We were home ported right across the bay at NAS North Island. I have also been on the USS Missouri BB 63 and the USS Iowa BB 61. When I visited these ships I noticed that the smell is the same. All Navy ships have the same smell.

An aircraft carrier pass is a story of greatness for the world maznifico documentary, happy memories and many congratulations once again jeff, an sarah,
My husband was in the Navy in the early 70's, so I got to go aboard his ship almost weekly when he pulled duty in port. (Visitors always had to leave at 8:00, so I never did get to finish the after-dinner movie!). I also got to go on the dependent's cruise on 2 occasions before they shipped out for 6 months...that was amazing! After discharge, we were in SD as part of a vacation tour, ending up at my Sister's in LA, & I wanted to tour the air craft carrier then in the Bay, but we couldn't fit it into our schedule. Darn! So, I was excited to see you gave me a glimpse of what I missed!
Wow, did I sleep in this morning, this is the first I've found the latest HH upload waiting for me. Thank you for sharing this, this is the first time I have seen a ship converted into a museum rather than kept in its original state. And can you imagine how fun this video would have been if those control panels remained operational with Sarah turned loose in the ship? Thank you once again.
Neat tour of the Midway. I am glad this ship was saved and not scrapped or made into artificial reef offshore. Thanks for taking us on board, Jeff and Sarah! 🇺🇸🚜👍
Thanks for the tour. My Dad was 20 years in the navy and all his sea time was aboard aircraft carriers. Once in port, he took me on a complete tour of the ship. You are right, a person can easily get lost.
I was told that one fellow went Awol while they were out to Sea. I do not know if that was just a made-up story or not. LOL but, I was told that it happen while a friend of mine was on a carrier.
Brings back memories, I was home-ported in S.D.in early 60's on a Heavy Cruiser which was the Flagship for ComFirst (Fleet a Vice Admiral). I was a Lithographer and we printed tons of printed paper work for 1st. Fleet. we often had to get supplies from other ships and Carriers had a large print shop so we visited all the Carriers and Cruisers in port. I was on Midway many times and was impressed by the size for sure. Visiting super carriers was even more impressive. I am glad that S.D. has Midway for a museum. Great video as always.
Another great video Jeff & Sarah! You brought alot of emotion & memories. I can remember as a kid watching on the news of sailors pushing the helicopters off the Midways flight line. Evac of Saigon was so horrific ,does kinda remind you of the Afghanistan debockle. America seems to always help & pay the cost, and thoes that be call us criminal & want to cancel culture us. We are not perfect, but we strive to improve & bring freedoms for all. PS, your Reagan inpersonation was spot on. Thanks again Jeff.👍🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Thank you Jeff and Sarah for another wonderful historical video. I was really enjoying seeing the ship and the history that goes with all the historical period, it was made by the greatest Generation America ever saw.
I was promoted to Chief Petty Officer in September 1989 while deployed onboard the USS MIDWAY while embarked with Commander, Carrier Group SEVEN. We were in the Indian Ocean in support of Desert Shield Operations. We rode her for 3.5 months. What an honor to serve onboard a ship that was an integral part of the United States Navy success during World War II in the Pacific Ocean. Retired as a Chief Yeoman in July 1997 with 20 years of service.
Nice one Jeff and Sarah. Love your variety of historical places and things. Very interesting. We will definitely check this out when I take the family to San Diego from New Jersey to spend Christmas with the in laws. Thank you Jeff and Sarah for another wonderful video.
It's always fun to visit these old ships and they all have a distinctive smell. The aircraft carriers smell all the same. It's really because of the JP5 jet fuel.
Really enjoyed this episode Jeff! A front row seat to a piece of history I would otherwise never experience. It was so nice to see Sarah again. I miss her when she's not with you. Only complaint, as always is it was too short, lol.
It's nice to see the USS Midway again. My wife and I visited a few years ago and really enjoyed it. Our sons are both Marines and we were able to visit the USS America just before our youngest son shipped out. The USS America is quite a bit smaller and far more technologically advanced, but there are still a lot of similarities between the old and the new. As always, thank you so much for all the hard work! We really enjoy watching every Sunday morning. 👍👍
Thank you Jeff & Sarah. Awesome video as always. Jeff, we love your voice & your reporting. You should have been a News Anchorman or a TV reporter. Blessings..!
Jeff when I was a kid, the USS Enterprise was in Long Beach harbor for an open house. My family and I arranged to go for a trip to the harbor one afternoon and got on board the aircraft carrier. I looked around and the place was as big as a small city. That's a very nice sterling silver service on board the USS Midway.
Thank you for your visit to the Midway. My husbands family has great and tragic ties to the ship. Philip “Bud” Hofmann lived and worked onboard the ship. During the typical practice launches to stay ‘ready’ his plane suffered some failure and was lost, with him inside, off the flight deck in the mid 1940’s. Neither he nor the plane were recovered. Thank you to the many many people who served on board and all the families that supported the fine folks on and around the history of that ship.
Enjoyed seeing this warrior of the seas. So proud of our Armed Forces. To imagine this ship being built in the WWII era, and then think about those ships being built today with all the advancements of technology over the years. God Bless The USA!
This brings back memories of taking tours aboard the USS Midway, along with sitting atop the flight deck for the annual Fourth of July fireworks celebration over the bay at night. Great times. Thank you for sharing!
I grew up passing them everyday, the USS Missouri was always there to gaze at. I finally got to tour it before it left for Hawaii when my youngest was about 5. The opening scenes of “an officer and a gentleman “ when Richard Gere gets on his bike.. is my home town. I’ve always loved driving in to see these massive ships. The Lincoln, Hornet, you name it..
An inlaw of mine and friend, was on the Midway when he and others push those choppers over the side so that that plane could land. He went on to retire from the Naval reserves. While I was in the Navy reserves I also was able to see the Midway while in Hawaii, I did not go aboard. I went from active duty Marines to the Navy reserves, Thank you for sharing your trip. Now for a question. Do you have any history of the Bob Hope Hollywood USO canteen, that was in Hollywood? Thank you.
I was stationed in the Navy in San Diego 1991 to '93 on the USS Frederick LST 1184.. loved San Diego a beautiful city.., 19 years old then, 50 years old now, my how time flies
Wow! Another great video! Thank you so much! Reminded me of getting to welcome home my boy friend’s ship in San Diego in 1972. He had been gone for 6 months on a Middle East tour. I actually got to tour his ship and it took us on a tour of San Diego harbor! It was a great experience. You always stir my memories with your videos! Bless you both!😌
The people who maintain the Midway are all volunteers. It is a no finish task. The Midway has a Amateur (Ham) radio station and it on the air very frequently. Thanks for the great video Jeff.
I'm a retired Army officer(was also enlisted) , and the closest I got to anything Navy was the port of Inchon in South Koreai in the 1970s. Those huge ships are just fascinating! Another great video Jeff, thanks!
Thanks for the video. Spent time on the USS Ranger in the late 70s. I was a Personnelman and the complexity of the carrier was amazing. Landing and take offs was poetry in motion. In addition our oldest daughter(now 46) took her first steps on the USS Enterprise at NAS Alameda.
I was one of the civilian employees who worked on the pier where the Midway is now tied up. The building used to extend further down the pier, have ramps so trucks could drive up to the second level where supplies were stored and also railroad tracks going onto the pier so that military transport ships could load and unload heavy equipment onto and off of rail cars.
I felt a real chill in the medical part of the ship where the surgery room was. I've been there twice. Your video taught me allot I never knew! Thank you.
My dad’s helicopter Det the HAL-3 Seawolves is on the midway I believe was the most decorated outfit during the Vietnam war in the history of United States Navy it was an all volunteer outfit in the RIP Freddie T Stark.
What a marvel, it's amazing it can float. My wife and kids toured the carrier Yorktown in Charlestown, South Carolina. The downside for the family was that I had to read every line of every paragraph....what a day.
I've been there several times over the years. They're always adding new exhibits. Great place to spend the afternoon, then go next door to The Fish Market restaurant and have an excellent meal. I miss doing that.
Jeff and Sarah , this video was AWESOME, like everyone you guys do ! I love history of any kind, my favorite being old West and military. Thank you again Frank from montana.. PS. The colors on the Midway are they the same colors. ( repainted ofcours ) as back in w.w. 2??

My husband and his father were in the Navy. I have a list of ships they were on over the years. It is really fascinating looking at the Midway. I wonder why they pushed the helicopters over rather than flying them until the plane landed. Great video! Thanks!
Definitely want to visit the USS Midway some day. I was at MCRDSD in 2001-2003, San Diego was nice, but its a lot nicer now, it has grown so much. If you go back, you can watch a US Marine graduation on a Sunday.
Brilliant impersonation Jeff lol Another fascinating video...the scale and logistics of these carriers cannot be understated. BTW we used to scrub the 'heads' with toothbrushes too (I'm ex-British Navy). Thank you for this amazing insight. God Bless🙏
Another fine example of why "The Greatest Generation" was just that! Thank you for taking us along on the tour.
My thoughts exactly
Totally agree. I learned that even computers, internet and cell phones (the first prototypes) were made by them. Young people today don't have the great ideas and the ability of "making things out of thin air" like the previous generations.
Indeed, the Greatest. Many of them in our family who have shared amazing stories from WW-II.

It smelled like all the gator freighters I've been on. Even the interior of the helos smell the same.
So did you like carriers better or Iowa class battleships?
@@RaoulThomas007 Since I was stationed on a carrier in the Navy I am for the carriers
