    The best way I can describe this song is that it’s sassy. Gave me the same vibes as Muse’s Supermassive Black Hole.

    The song clicked with me on the second listen, I really like the grunge and shoegazey(?) vibes. I feel like it still needs a bit of polish but I love it when bands experiment, not a personal favorite but I still liked it, it’s a left turn but a good one imo. I hope they keep experimenting with more shoegaze and maybe noise rock (hopefully)

    Sonically it sounds like a mix of Deftones and some of the bands Inspired by deftones with some shoegaze in there. Vocally I cannot place what it sounds like outside of the “I don’t want to watch you burn x2” sounds like Craig Owens to me. All in all, is a very good song IMO. It’s different for sure, and I’m hoping their entire next release won’t be entirely in this style but I’m definitely open to more of this from Thorny.

      Yeah there's some Chino influence in there, along with some Muse and the chuggiest riff after the 1st chorus sounded a little bit like Northlane.

    This is my third listen now so the shock of the style change has worn off. I actually do love the instrumentals in this song. The vocals which I didn't like originally has grown on me slightly. Wouldn't like a full album of this but I know they've already said there will be different sounds on the album so I'm still very interested to future singles!

    This is personally my first time hearing Thornhill, I can't say I am a fan of how it sounds but that is just my opinion. I have been inspired to check out their first release purely because of the comments of this track. Wow, I can see why this has been jarring for people haha. Great reaction and discussion after though Rachelle. You did a fab job of staying diplomatic and looking at every angle

      This definitely should not be your only Thornhill track you listen to, it’s completely different from their entire discography. I’d highly suggest checking out anything from their discography otherwise honestly

    I liked it more than you did Rachell , it went right away into my rotation . They took some chances here and I think that they created a nice vibe .... others may try to " borrow " some of this song's elements . Was it the Grey Goose that I was drinking or did I distinctly hear a women's voice at 1:46 . BTW the drummer is cracking those skins .

    Overall The Dark Pool pulled me in by how unique it was, at least to me. I coudn't recall the last time I heard an album that made me think damn, I really haven't heard anything like this. Then Casanova drops and I instantly think..Muse. With a slight Deftones/Radiohead vibe. After multiple listens over the weekend I still am not drawn into it, and it speaks to alot of fans disappointment when so many people instantly detect that it just sounds like x & y bands. I don't hate it, it's just such a quick change in tone that I wasn't anticipating or hoping for.

    I personally was not too interested in the song when I first heard it, apart from the intro riff which I like. However, personally, the song has grown on me after listening to it a few times now.

    • @RachelleReacts
      @RachelleReacts  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've seen people saying this but I really don't hear it. Vocally, instrumentally- it doesn't raise any Loathe flags to me. The guitar tone might be similar in parts but it's something Thorny has used across their discography so I don't hear it there either haha. What is it that makes you hear Loathe in this?

    • @b0ssl0af72
      @b0ssl0af72 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RachelleReacts Some of it is kind of reminiscent of Loathe's shoegazey bits. Other than that I think people moreso just mean that nice smooth Deftones sound. I've also seen a lot of people say this song is most similar to early Muse. It's different, but I honestly love it after about a dozen listens, it's so sassy lol.

    The song has really grown on me but the ending vocals just don’t fit at all. Wish we could of heard some screams to end it.

    • @RachelleReacts
      @RachelleReacts  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The song has grown on me a lot more since my first listen, even though I didn't mind the song initially. I would agree for sure on the closing vocals, some uncleans blended in, even as backing, throughout the rest of the track would've made them feel much less random

  • @LexiPixeL_
    @LexiPixeL_ 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    What a weird friggin song this is haha. I.. don't know how I feel about it. I mean, I certainly like it, but it's just so aurally different, not just to The Dark Pool, but really to much of anything I've heard before, and I listen to some weird shit lol. This one is gonna take a couple repeated listens and then sitting in the tank for a bit before I can really determine whether or not it's got staying power.
    Edit: I gave it a second listen. The word I would personally use to describe this style is "swanky".

    Man, super disappointing. Loved the sound on TDP, this is just awful. The whole musical, tonal, lyrical, attitude shift from "Where We Go When We Die" to this does not leave me with hope that this new album will have the heavy, dark mood that defined their sound. Their first album was sensitive, vulnerable, and savage. Songs like this are just gonna bring dudebros in snapbacks and Tapout bro tanks to their concerts.

    Vocals totally ruin it for me. Instrumentals are great but I feel like he isn’t using his voice as all in this song. I echo the muse comparisons I’m seeing. Dark pool didn’t sound like anything which made it unique. This just isn’t it. I’ve listened to the song 7 times and I’m just going to accept this album probably will be a disappointment for me

    • @RachelleReacts
      @RachelleReacts  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      While I can see where you're coming from in the beginning part of your comment, to write off an entire album based off of one single is doing yourself a terrible disservice. Jacob has already touched on this and how if you didn't like this song, you may like something else on the album. I can totally understand people not appreciating a song with a different sound, but as I've said many of times about many of bands, one song with a different sound doesn't define their entire future

    • @darkcalw824
      @darkcalw824 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RachelleReacts that’s 100% true. I’ll give it a chance, but I prefer to have low hopes so I can hopefully be pleasantly surprised! :)
