I loved the album! I get all kinds of vibes in this album. Muse, Deftones, Radiohead & Coldplay are what I hear a lot of. I guess I’m in the minority that has been really digging the singles, but yeah the album definitely elevates the singles to a new level. His vocal range is ridiculous & the thick layering of sounds makes it a very powerful listen. Loved the reaction video. Just the natural vibe of your reactions is why I visit the channel so often. You aren’t here to put on a show, you are here to give honest reactions with honest opinions. Not to mention you are a beautiful person inside & out. Awesome job
Liked it better on second listen, no doubt. I really get the Muse style comparison. Raw still favorite track, drumming is superb and the mix for them is just perfect. Singles really hit different within the album context, will probably revisit this again more later
To me this album draws from so many places and it all fits so so so well. Blue Velvet is such a beautiful track and Leather Wings really goes hard, but honestly I reckon Varsity Hearts is my favourite track on it ngl. Something Terrible Came with The Rain hit me out of nowhere tho, I get massive "hopping through an enchanted forest" vibes from it and I don't even know how they got it to fit on the album but it's neat :D
It still hasn't clicked for me yet mostly due to how much I loved TDP. I wasn't ready for such a big shift so early in thier career. However listening to them play the new singles live I am starting to come around slowly. I mean Muse is one of my fav bands of all time so it shouldnt be a stretch to like this
I really liked this one, I was quite impressed by a lot of it. After the listening party and this album reaction, I still feel like I need to digest it more to really figure out how I feel about some of the tracks, especially where they lie in context of the album as a whole. "Raw" is still my favorite single, but the other singles really stood out to me more as part of that context than they did on their own, and I may end up changing which single is my favorite. Other standout tracks for me were "Blue Velvet", "Leather Wings" and especially "Varsity Hearts". I initially missed VH during the listening party (bad timing from Amazon lol), so this was my first time hearing it and it's kind of all over the place stylistically (in terms of the range of this album), which I enjoyed. But yeah I'll have to go through this again (and again, probably) to digest it better. Sorry for the longwinded comment, blame it on the ADD as that one song says. Edit: One thing I'll say is I wish there was more Ethan singing on this record, I really liked that bit in "Raw". Sidenote: On second listen, I still feel like the end of "Heroine" sounds like the opening of a early Lana Del Rey track ("American"). 😅
I’ve said this before, I think most of the Deftones influence on this record is coming from the producer George Lever. I mean Loathe and Sleep Token are absolutely influenced by Deftones and he produced them as well. Honestly I think this is the album Muse always wanted to make lol it’s so damn good
Would say 2 years later that it sucks to see so many people have a hard time getting into this one, but I fucking LOVE it and have played at least 3 or 4 tracks a day from it for months now. Can't stop, need halp (halp being more Thornhill rn 😌).
I love this album. 4.5/5 for sure. I know it's probably just style but they don't use the vocal effects so maybe they're going for a sort of lo-fi thing so you go and experience them live and the songs sound better than the record. Just a thought
Such a good album. I wonder if The Hellfire Club has anything to do with stranger things. Cause you can hear the little synth and it sounds like the intro to the show.
i think with this season of Stranger Things having juuust come out and the album having been done for a while it's unlikely. i'm also watching that right now though and it made me think of the same haha
Yes I’ve been waiting for this the album is good my favorite on the album is the hellfire club, leather wings, blue velvet, arkangel, Valentine, something terrible came with the rain and heroine my least favorite on the album were Casanova (I prefer the live version), Hollywood, raw and varsity hearts.
The only thing I hate about the album is Jacob's vocals are buried in the mix. If you listen to Thornhill's Casanova (Triple J Like a version) He sounds better live than the Studio version I like most of the tracks
Apparently he decided on this type of mix to give a live vocal feel. Give another listen to the album with this in mind and see if it changes your mind. It did to me
The barrier that's keeping me from enjoying this album is the mixing, it works for Blue velvet and Valentine but the rest feels really distorted in my opinion, especially Hollywood. The very end of the song sounds absolutely amazing but the weird distortion really ruins it for me. Same producer did Loathes most recent album I believe and it was really noisy too but it worked because it's a crushing album that sounds like an absolute mental break. The songs sound good live which goes to show that the songs are at least decent it's just this mixing man lol. If they went with the same guy that did their last album I think this would have grown on a lot more people, stylistic changes aside.
@@MiguelRamirez-cr7gh Deftones always experiment so no album sounds the same. They could definitely drop another album of the year if they wanted to lol!
@@lindugger4781 I honestly don’t know how they’re going to sound with yet another bass player, but we’ll see. If they bring on Lance full time as second guitarist and backup vocalist that would be a great start
Saw them play the album a couple of months ago in its entirety in Sydney and he doesn't use those effects live. Loving the album but it has a bit of a different feel live
@@whipsy agreed, the songs sound much better live to me. singles, at least. hopefully fixing to find out about the non-singles when i see them again in August!
i can’t stop listening to blue velvet, just a beautiful song
I’m sayin
Agreed I listened to this song last night and yesterday and I nearly almost cried.😢
Me too I can agree with this too it hits for some reason
loooove love love this track
Blue Velvet is one of the best tracks on the album: especially the final part with the ascending climax of synth/arks
The start of Hellfire Club gives me crazy Loathe’s vibes. It’s like their last album mixed with Jacob’s vocals from Cherry, and I love it.
Varsity hearts main guitar riff in the beginning with the intro sounds like a 2000s movie ending when it cuts to the credits haha. Nostalgic sounding
Yes this!!! So glad I'm not the only one who got those vibes! I get like, the ending of a high school movie vibes lmao
Jacob's vocal style in The Hellfire Club is straight out from Cherry, im glad he brought it out
glad you heard that too!
Cherry waves? Deftones? 🤪
@@george2994 jacob have another band called Cherry, check them out so you'll know

Leather Wings best song of the album, no doubt!
I love the new stuff but leather wings seems like the most fluent middle ground between their new and old sound
Yesss omg such an amazing song ☝️
Yes leather wings rocks.
I've been loving on the first three tracks in general, having a hard time which is my favorite but Leather Wings very well may be the one.
@@RachelleReacts first three are such strong tracks to start off with, they knew what they were doing ha
I love this band, they're easily my second favourite band behind Deftones! Every second of this album I adore.
You should definitely check out the band VEXES new album
I love the album front to back
definitely my aoty so far. Blue velvet blew my mind❤️❤️❤️
Blue Velvet is suuuch a cool song. I really like the lyrics on that one
i agree❤️ the lyrics felt so personal 🥲
I couldn’t help but nod vigorously in excitement making the connection to Cherry with The Hellfire Club 😂
What a gorgeous album. Im in love

Beautiful album, but also it's getting more difficult for deftones if they want to release a new album and stand out on the scene
It’s getting more difficult for Deftones? Ohms won album of the year by Revolver, Metal Hammer and Loudwire in 2020. I think they’ll be just fine.
