Probably Italians are more familiar with Spain because of the mutually intelligible language, so we feel more “connected” and we can understand a bit more of their culture also because of this reason. Another point could be the international relevance of Spain compared to Greece. We’re used to hear more about Spain throughout our lives than Greece (except for when we study history or philosophy at school).
With this said, maybe Greece is not the first country that come to the mind for an Italian, BUT! I’ve never heard a single person in my life despising Greece, it’s pretty much loved but a bit “in the background”. Does it make any sense? 🤣

It's a bit surprising to me as the Italians invaded Greece during World War II. It's like if most Poles love Germans (although of course the scale of Italian invasion of Greece and German occupation of Poland is totally different).

@@newreast3904 This is the past my friend. We're not living in the times of Emperor Basil II. and Tsar Samuil or in WW2. Greece has since 50 years very good relations with Bulgaria. Bulgarians are very similar to Greeks religious and cultural.
Remember 1987 with Papandreou and Zhivkov during the crisis with Turkey. Together we formed a military front in North Greece/South Bulgaria against the Turkish army. Also don't forget spring 2020 when Bulgaria opened the dam to prevent Islamists from crossing the Evros River.

We also love Serbs very much, but we don't know the country very well, since up to 1990 it was hard to go and this changes fast now as idea. There are trips organized to Belgrade and I have been to kopaonik which had amazing mountain and forest.
I'll have to visit Serbia, I am thinking of a road trip from North Macedonia up to Serbia, Croatia and Slovenia. Also I want to do Bulgaria and Romania in the future. Balkans are the most beautiful place in Europe but it is underrated because of western Europe. Much love from Greece.

If u go to Serbia try to get the best out of it...Belgrade n novi sad totally worth it but don't miss out on golubac, djavola varos, pirot, leskovac in august (they have a food festival, rostiljada), uzice, zlatibor n mokra gora (thats where life is a miracle was filmed, zivot je cudo), Republika Srpska (visegrad is awesome, river drina crosses the city. Sutjeska national park, trebinje n of course banja luka....whole Bosnia too, mostar is amazing).
Point is that there r so many places to visit in Serbia (i didnt even mention half of them) to appreciate the country n believe me, it will surely pay off!!!
I agree that balkans r the most underrated region of europe...Romania is beautiful as well but leave it for another roadtrip n when u go to Bulgaria take the road up to brasov, sibiu, cluj n on.
