Out of those I have only tried the R4 but the standard version. I have heard lots of very good stuff about the DX180 from a couple of friends. I would probably get the DX180 if I wanted something a bit more future proof just based on specs on paper. R4 is pretty much tied with it but can be cheaper (if you get regular version) but the Eva one is nice also. Either way I would probably put the R6 third on that list.
This is going to be my 1st DAP and also a dive into HiFi in general, not just on-the-go stuff. What's the best way to start a HiFi library to then transfer onto the DAP? Would something like HDTracks alone suffice and be at reasonable cost per song/album vs something else?

Hey! Had a silly confusion.. Came to know this dap doesn't have a line out. If i connect a dac via usb c and use something like the uapp , will i be able to get an output?? Sry, I don't really understand what line out means!
I think UAPP Will working. To me a line out is an audio output ready to enter another amplifier. Amplifier of headphones , or speakers,or the amplifier portion of active speakers. NOT to feed headphones or passive speaker per se. There are two types of line out in My experience. One, the signal out has 100 % volume. So the final volume control will rest on the final amplifier. CAUTION if You plug a headphone in this type of line out. The second is the opposite. It has just the minimal power so the final AMP could work ok, but no more. If You plug a headphone there volume would be too small because it Will not be amplified to make a headphone sound ok. Anyway, line outs should NEVER be plugged to headphones despite sharing connectors
I know you said you can't talk to it, presumably because doesn't have microphone but, if you were to install Whatsup , Vibe etc., with a headphones with a mic, would you be able to talk?
Great review, but the ess dacs I just a not a fan of. Since getting my FiiO Q15 BT dac/amp worh there AKM implementation has been a real eye opener for me. Peace.
Hello Danny, just came across your channel. Great content, great presentation. I was considering purchasing this DAP, I already have a dongle the FIIO KA5. Do you think this would be an improvement with the quad chips? As in, improvent in sound quality? I have 3 IEMs, the Nova, Mangrid TOP and Hype 4.
I've never tried the KA5 but it looks like a solid dongle on paper. R4 will mostly give you a different experience. Since it is a dedicated device. Sound would be secondary. I would not buy just for sound alone, you already have a good set up. Only buy if you are looking for a different form factor and experience.
@@ImAWSMDanny Do you think the EQ and the plugins and all the other features are worthwhile or just gimmicks? You did mention they overdelivered but still it leaves me uncertain.
I live in Indonesia, 99 cents gets me a decent local cheesburger. A double burger, with lettuce and tomatoes and Japanese mayo, if I make it at home from frozen patties, using bread from my bread maker machine. I want to ask, does Tidal direct USB work on the m300? Same question for Poweramp, with Poweramp will I have to manually set the output resolution all the time like on my present phone? I just leave it on 24-96..
I haven't tried a DAP with a warmer/fuzzier sound yet. The R4 is cleaner and less warm than the M300 or DX170. Very small difference though. Sorry, can't help much there.

I have e question you know if this DAP is Bluetooth receiver and transmitter or just Bluetooth receiver I tied to connect to my Bluetooth tv transmiter to watch a movie and I couldn’t connect it I would really appreciate if you or anybody can help me with this thank you 🙏🏽
The R4 has two-way bluetooth capabilities so it should be able to send and receive bluetooth signal. Not sure how your TV transmitter is set up but sometimes you need to pair the devices first before they will show up on bluetooth.
Thank you so much for your response the thing is that my tv transmitter not even shows in the R4 and I try to paring and nothing but when my tv transmitter is in receiver mode then it shows in the R4 so I’m lost hahah
I'm curious about how good the bluetooth is on this. Been using a Fiio M9 for about 3 or so years and it's been serving me rather well, but after investing in a pair of Grado GW100 v2's, It'll be in my pocket and I'm walking around outside and I'll turn my head to the left, the audio sputters and cuts out. Super annoying

@@karunkumar9502 It's hard to beat the M300 or the R4 if you want Android. They are both very capable and versatile. I wanted to work on a comparison videos now that I have lived with both for for a longer time. I mostly use the M300, it's just too convenient. Small, light, gets the job done. R4 is a step up in features and performance but slightly bigger/heavier.
Using the dap cable with this would be pointless. You'll get way better sound quality using an analogue cable and crins EQ setting out into the PEQ of the r4
So I haven't tried the Sony NW-A306 myself. I almost bought it since I was looking for something just like it but on paper the HiBy M300 is better. It's hard to recommend the NW-A306 due to HiBy having two better options for a cheaper price. Again that's just on paper but I would do a bit more research and compare those 3 options.

@@wana.me003 There’s always going to be a big push on release. People let their excitement get the better of them. But I have a dap that I love and a phone with a year left of payments on, so I am not considering the Miad01 at this time… if I didn’t already have those, I’d probably be chomping at the bit too. Just take a breath.
No idea, I haven't tried that one. Isn't it more expensive? Also probably old specs? R4 is a default for me for me a lot of times just because it is cheaper and runs smoothly/fast with modern specs/software. If I get the Tempotec V6 in I will compare them.
@@ImAWSMDanny Yes it's more expensive though it's old versions of software or something. I had a iBasso dx90 which is a very good sound stage output, I guessed this HIBY R4 will be matched in terms of sound field and physical design 👍😎😎🤘👏✌️
those headphones you mentioned for 5$ its more like buy it if you dont like music, something like that or if you dont care about quality buy it, R4 is different case of "cheap"
I disagree. D-Fi is great and definitely worth more than $5. They are also more enjoyable than lots of other mainstream transducers at higher prices imo.
Battery life is too short. Hibys declared battery life falls short in practice. Sony a306 is way better battery life and fun. AK se180 is great with the interchangeable dacs - from some ess precision to something more organic like AKM. I wouldn’t say there is one single best dap, just what’s best for your needs. And for a lot of people a phone with dongle dac is a great approach (chord mojo 2 is amazing for adjusting and saving for different devices), Cayin ru6 for a warmer r2r. On a Bluetooth dongle dac like fiio btr 7, ifi go blue… I like Hiby but they need to treble their battery life and state the actual battery life.
Yup just as with everything, you gotta shop for yourself. I hope they continue to build on this concept though. This is basically the upgraded M300 I asked them for. Now just need to refine it.
Hiby R4 overheating issue!! I'm quite disappointed with the product. Although it looks impressive and should be worth more than $600, just by looking at it, it appears to have been built with cheap components and has poor heat dissipation. @@ImAWSMDanny thanks , yes it’s overheating it seems that several users are having this issue , there is a thread at head fi on this topic , Hopefully Hiby responds to the users with this issue . Thanks

R4 is better than the DX170 in pretty much every way other than maybe battery life.

Hey!
Had a silly confusion..
Came to know this dap doesn't have a line out.
If i connect a dac via usb c and use something like the uapp , will i be able to get an output??
Sry, I don't really understand what line out means!
Yes, you can connect a DAC via USB-C and get audio output.
I don't think so. I was not able to get a signal in through with a wired mic. Maybe wireless would work though.
13:36 can i ask if the hiby r4 can stream hi-res lossless on apple music?
It does
@@ImAWSMDanny great, thanks 😊
Would be nice if it had SiM support for streaming
Great review, but the ess dacs I just a not a fan of. Since getting my FiiO Q15 BT dac/amp worh there AKM implementation has been a real eye opener for me. Peace.
Thank you sir. I am curious about the HiBy FD5 that should be out soon. Seems like it has AKM chips.

Usb audio out supported? TQ
Like to a DAC?
As a transport for a DAC, will the r4 be better than the Samsung s23 ultra via USB?
Depends on the usb dac you're using.
Do the screws on the back allow access to replace the battery?
No idea.
Does it down sample music from streaming services (such as tidal) to 48khz like the M300 does?
No. It has system-wide bit perfect audio so no resampling.
@@ImAWSMDanny ok so that's what BP means, thanks for what you do! Subbing now!

What DAP would you recommended if I like warm sound?
I haven't tried a DAP with a warmer/fuzzier sound yet. The R4 is cleaner and less warm than the M300 or DX170. Very small difference though. Sorry, can't help much there.
for $0.99 you can get a lunch here in my country
Well I should come visit then and buy us lunch.
is it difficult to transfer music from another device?
No. Just put it on an SD card or connect to a PC. The HiBy music player scans for music and adds it to the library.

Hi new subscriber here and a new Hiby r4 user thank you so much for your review great job.

I want this so bad but they don't have the green color in stock 😢
Green looks so sexy tho. Maybe worth waiting a bit, hopefully you catch a sale also.

Because i have 112gb library in my s23 ultra.... Hiby device comes with 32gb storage only... Thanks in advance.
Hello, yes you can download lossless Apple Music on to the sd card. I do that on both the R4 and M300. Just got into settings on Apple Music, change the location for downloads and what quality.
@@ImAWSMDanny thank you for the reply bro.... Can you please suggest me this dap is the best in segment? Or can you suggest other dap? I don't have proper knowledge of dap.
@@ImAWSMDanny apple music is supported only in Android based dap's ....correct?
@@karunkumar9502 yes
You can use Apple Music on this DAP?
Yes, it runs off Android so anything you can access on the app store you can use. I personally use Apple Music on it.
Where do you download your music from?
Mostly Apple Music
If you are into hi-res, then Qobuz has an online store
Can you use this as a USB DAC for a PC?
Yea there's an audio in function for the usb c port.
Does the screen scroll smoothly like an iphone?
Yes, smooth scrolling in any app I tried so far.
What makes this better than the R3 II?
More versatile overall I guess.
Awesome review, thanks! Does the Moondrop x Crinacle Dusk DSP cable work on it? Just curious since I've preordered both and want to use the DSP cable.
It should but I can check later. I have the Dusk in for review just haven't gotten around to it.
@@ImAWSMDanny that would be great, thx
Using the dap cable with this would be pointless. You'll get way better sound quality using an analogue cable and crins EQ setting out into the PEQ of the r4
😸
How it's work with the Elysian Pilgrim, at 4.4mm output?
It worked just fine, no issues.
So it sounds the same as your phone?! You just buy it to listen to music without inrerrupting ?
It will probably sound cleaner than most phones, dedicated device with its own battery, its own storage, less interruptions/distractions.
@@ImAWSMDanny ok .. is it capable to run beyer dynamic dt1910 pro ?
Is it better sound than R6 III?
No idea, haven't tried that one.
Shopping this against a Sony NW-A306, would you recommend this over that? If you ever handled that one.
@@ImAWSMDanny Thanks for the feedback, I'm looking towards the R4. Kinda of worried the Sony and M300 won't put out enough volume. Currently running a Hiby FC4 on my phone, this is gonna be my first DAP since an iPod Classic 20G.

Hmmmmmm 🤔, I'm debating on this or MoonDrops MIAD01 (as a DAP)........ 😭

No! Wait on the Miad01! There are gonna be bugs. Give it a few months.

@@wana.me003 There’s always going to be a big push on release. People let their excitement get the better of them. But I have a dap that I love and a phone with a year left of payments on, so I am not considering the Miad01 at this time… if I didn’t already have those, I’d probably be chomping at the bit too. Way better than tempotec v6??
No idea, I haven't tried that one. Isn't it more expensive? Also probably old specs? R4 is a default for me for me a lot of times just because it is cheaper and runs smoothly/fast with modern specs/software. If I get the Tempotec V6 in I will compare them.
@@ImAWSMDanny Yes it's more expensive though it's old versions of software or something. I had a iBasso dx90 which is a very good sound stage output, I guessed this HIBY R4 will be matched in terms of sound field and physical design 👍😎😎🤘👏✌️
The design is a virtual copy of the excellent, older, DAP - the PIONEER XDP-100R-K which, at the time, was "the best DAP in the world".
those headphones you mentioned for 5$ its more like buy it if you dont like music, something like that or if you dont care about quality buy it, R4 is different case of "cheap"

On a Bluetooth dongle dac like fiio btr 7, ifi go blue…
I like Hiby but they need to treble their battery life and state the actual battery life.

Mine is overheating; I cannot even touch it. Is anyone having this issue?
Mine does get warm when streaming+using balanced+higher gain modes but not enough for me to consider it overheating.
