Mine arrived yesterday, I have the Hiby R3 Pro Saber, Fiio M6 and Hiby M300 and so far this just blows all those other low end DAPs out of the water. Managed to drive even my most difficult headphones without any problems. The size is just right too. I've found the M300 just a bit too small to use comfortably with the small screen.
Insane just started looking for a dap to limit my screen time on my phone and discovered the HiBy r4 only to see this posted 40 min ago. Perfect timing 🤣
Bought the EVANGELION collab, and used your charts to decide on adding Rinko and Z12s to accompany it(I listen primarily to Japanese hyperpop and western "punch/scam" rap) and your reviews showed both IEMS are ideal for my music tastes and affordability.
I agree with everything you said and I would add that it's standby time is excellent as well. I can leave it powered on with the screen off all night long and it may go down 1-2% battery. I can listen to music, then when I'm done put it in my pocket for hours and when I take it back out it is at the same battery level.
I have NOT had a DAP in so long, always been an android phone user but had an ipod video. After watching numerous reviews, general cultural revival of DAP, and being a 90s baby, I decided to pull the trigger on the hiby r4 x evangelion model. Definitely a little more pricey, but with 10 dollars off, free shipping, slightly better specs and the fact they didn't just do a simple reskin of the regular r4 convinced me to buy 🎉 Tysm for this review! Edit: I just ordered it today, so I'm really excited!
@@fernumi4049 Ok, so I've been using for almost a week and TLDR: absolutely worth it. Even for someone who isn't an "audiophile", you can clearly hear a difference in music quality (I'm using the Kefine Delci AE which I love a lot). Great size and it just feels solid and looks incredible in IRL. The Evangelion Edition feels so worth it when you start playing around with it and digging into the features. No regrets! I can imagine myself using this unit along for many years. It's perfect for someone like me, a casual listener that appreciate higher quality music with no distractions.
I cant wait for a review on the shangling m5 ultra and the ibasso dx180..your thoughts will help me make an informed purchase decision...i may just get this R4 and save some money
I just got a Qudelix-5K, connected it to my phone and bam, ran out of storage. Considering I'll mainly use wired headphones I think I should've gone with this to begin with
I'm looking to get me a decent player sense my Pioneer XDP 300, set won't turn on glitchy on me for some reason All you get for the price is great. The more I look into Hiby it looks great
Don't like the aesthetic. Recently bought a Samsung Galaxy to see how good of a DAP it could be. The Moondrop interests me as a big fan of the brand. May wait for a second generation unit though. May need to look at the R6 again.
Is the sound quality significantly better than something like the Aful Snowynight? The main reason I've been looking at the R4 is because of the class A amplification, which is something I've never tried before. My Tanchjim Space dac definitely sounds better than my M0 pro to me so I also wonder if I'm one of those people that have a strong preference for CS over ESS chips in general.
@@mfdoom808 even the Aful Snowynight sounds very noticably different from the Tanchjim Space and the chips in those are nearly identical, the main difference being the implementation of the amplification
I'm on the hunt for something JUST like this, but more pocketable. The R3 II looks really dated and generic in the software. People complain about Sony. Where does that leave us in 2024?
will this work on any wired earphone or headphones? how about those Bluetooth headphones with connectable wire? does it work the same for those? like skullcandy headphones
Yes same here, R6 III is great. Initially I bought the R6 pro II but sold it later on and gotten the R6 III as it’s lighter to bring around. Recently I just bought Cayin N7 which is a huge upgrade for home listening. R6 III still remains as my daily portable dap to bring around.
First, thanks so much for watching the review! Miad01 is great if you have entry or maybe even mid-tier iems or headphones, and while the difference with the R4 may have been slight with my higher end iems and headphones it was noticeable enough for me to recommend the R4 over the Miad01. The value with the Miad01 lies in its convenience. It combines a headphone output (and a decent dac and amp) with a phone so you can travel a little lighter. But if you value slightly better sound performance (less $$ with a ton of tweak ability too!) over convenience I would recommend the R4. I hope that helps. Again, thanks for watching!
If you're happy with the R5 II I would just keep it. It has a lot of the same features. Maybe slightly less power and Vrms but I don't know if it's significant enough to justify spending the extra money. Also, R5 II has less built in memory but if you use an sd card that doesn't matter. R4 has newer android version and more RAM so it's a little snappier and more battery efficient. It might give you slightly better dynamics with full-size headphones but I'm hearing very little difference with iems with my R5 II.
Hey! Thanks for watching! On my right - Hiby R5 Gen II Left - Hiby R3 II (Sorry! I called it R3 pro in video. I have also) Top - Moondrop Miad01 On the stand - Fiio M15S
Add a DC Elite Dongle to this and game over. Same quality rivalling Astell and Kern's Ultima performance. That combo can be an endgame. All for around 600 bucks. Same sound as $2000 DAPS. Thank me later, guys.

Nice, glad you like it. An easy rec for sure! Thanks for watching!
Does it overheat?
How does the M300 do with driving headphones? It'd be pretty nice if I could get a dap that could drive my edition XS

The Eva is sexy AF!!!!! I just got mine today!
Thank you Dave, this is a busy space in audio.
Yes, it is! Thanks for watching!

I absolutely love my R4❤

UPDATE US HOW IS IT! i’m thinking of getting it but idk how much better it is compared to just listening on a phone.

Really helpful video, thank you. Sound and loudness which would you choose Hiby R4 or Surfans S28?
Great review. I also have M15S and R4 and your review is spot on 👍🏻
I have the RS2 DAP which I use as part of my IEM testing and IEM listening sessions
Great video, now I'm aeriously considering getting it. Would you recommend getting this over the FiiO M11s? Thanks!
Took you long enough, been waiting on this one! Also hoping you get your hands on the DX180.
Sorry! Thanks for your patience and thanks for watching!

Hi, I just want to ask whether R4 is a worthy upgrade if I compare it with the R3 II model?
hey giza audio, a question for you. Can the device (Hiby R4) be used with wireless earphones?
Great review been looking forward to this one. Now if this would finally hit Amazon I’d pick one up.
Thanks for watching!
Won't be long according to Hiby, they've just about finished delivering the pre-orders.
What is this awsome jazz intro music ?
Can we use the R4 as a DAC for smartphone? Im trying to but the sound doesnt go to the dap 🤔?
Can it be used as a transport for a stationary DAC? or will there be a lot of transformations? or you need to look for a vehicle without a DAC

Wooooo I just got my R4 X Evangelion edition🤤😍🤤😍🤤😍🤤!
Does the Eva edition have the overheating problem and crash issues that have been reported with the standard R4?
@@ratmouth so far mine has not crashed nor over heated.
Do you know where I can find a sports armband for this specifically?
It's because it's a quad-core DAC, lesser quality but still 2x-4x more cores than other arrangements
Envious of your iems surrounding that Hiby
Thank you! I'm definitely grateful for what I have. Timmy's collection is truly the envy of us all. Thanks for watching!
Have you tried to do a blind test between this and another less "warm" device? Wonder if it's a real difference in sound or just placebo.
How was it compares with shanling m3x ?
Please review the Periodic Audio Silicon DAC. Its form factor is like none other. I can only imagine it sounds as good.
Hello! R4 or RS2?
I'm waiting patiently for you to review the fiio m23. I noticed a lot of youtuber have it and did not review it
Hopefully, I can get my hands on one for review! Thanks for watching!

Great tune by Martin Landstrom called Muita Calma. Thanks for watching!

I’d like to know how it compares to the Questyle M15 dongle dac for SQ.
Did you ever find an answer to this?
Could you tell me the sound quality between Hiby R4 and Moondrop MIAD 01?
Just out of curiousity. What is Dave's video doing here xD
i just had my r4 yesterday, just wondering if theres any 3rd party app to be download that will hhelp or something
I've been using a HiBy R6 III for a while now and am totally content with it. The R4 looks pretty good for the price.

Hi bro , Can you review the cayin N3 Ultra tube DAP. Pls Can you recommend any tube DAPS?.
Is it a phone?
How does it compare to the Moondrop Phone?
He says in the sound section that performs equally or better with IEMs.
First, thanks so much for watching the review!

Is it better than the BTR 15
Is adaptive aptx supported?
I bought the r4 instead of questyle m15i…as it has bluetooth
you do want to avoid bluetooth for best quality.
Cool
Thanks for watching!
Should I get the R4 if I already own the R5II ?

I'm curious how does this compared to Tempotec V3
Still haven't heard that one, unfortunately. Thanks for watching!
Too small battery. My only complain
R4 or DX180?
1 dx180 can buy r4 2 unit,
@buaya111 but I'm planning to buy the Eva version XD
@@allenyeager. I mean dx180 cost more and is a bit better. Either way its technically better option if you care not for budget. If you do yea get r4
