    If it isnt already get the flywheel lightened and balanced

      I mentioned in the video that I have a standard flywheel and I'll more than likely be sticking with that for now 👍🏻

    Love them engine's had some many year's messing about with them in a 2 litre saloon stock car, simple engine to mod up and get lot of power 👍

    That's a Sierra thermostat housing. Use the escort cortina capri type. Get core plugs too. I'd use a proper alloy sump too with matching pickup pipe. Also do the spray bar and valve seals. Burton do most bit's but brandshatch performance are good

    • @Mk2Mitch
      @Mk2Mitch  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I thought it looked slightly different, do you know the differences between Sierra etc? Thank you for the recommendations, I will be replacing all of those parts and adding them to my list 👌🏻

    • @darrenrevill8664
      @darrenrevill8664 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Mk2Mitch the sierra thermostat housing pipe is shorter and has the bleeding thingy on it. You can get both new and easy to tell side by side.

      @@Mk2Mitch also look at your inlrt ports on the head. If they're egg shaped it's a efi head if almost circular it's a carb head. Efi heads from what i've been told are the better flowing and unleaded from the factory.

    Hiya mate, great vlog 👍. So, your crank thingy is a windage tray. And, a bit of trivia for you, the block you have was usually found in the transit van 😀. Hope your good, can't wait to see the next episode dude. 👍✌️

    • @Mk2Mitch
      @Mk2Mitch  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for the name Ian! My escort should fly if the engine is used to pulling a transit along 🤣

    • @iannorton4463
      @iannorton4463 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Mk2Mitch it was always meant for the transit because of the block being stronger, that is why cosworth used it 👍

    Pinto engines came in mk1 escort rs2000, mk2 Mexico and mk2 rs2000. The mk2 rs2000 had an alloy sump but not sure if the mk1 rs2000 are mk2 Mexico had a steel sump or alloy.

      Thank you for the information, I'm looking to buy a alloy reproduced sump, from Burton power 😁

  • @neill4133

    Be interesting to see what camshaft is in there, there should be some numbers on the rear face to tell you if it is a performance cam. Would use the alloy RS2000 sump and pick up pipe as they were purposely made for the job. Burtons sell remade ones

    • @Mk2Mitch
      @Mk2Mitch  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi mate, I will have to check the numbers on the cam! I've already been looking on Burton power and I think I'll treat myself to a new shiney sump 😁

    will you pull yhe head off? i would clean the pistons and rings to be safe. all my pintos always had stuck oilrings. also you can mod the valves at the same time to make easy power. david wizar had a test where he only grinded the edge off from the valves. it made same airflow as fully ported head with stock valves.

    • @Mk2Mitch
      @Mk2Mitch  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello pal, thank you for the info. I won't be taking the head off or removing the pistons. As I explained in the video I just want to freshen up the engine for now and then in a few years I'll give it the full works!

  • @caprilaser3
    @caprilaser3 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great progress on the pinto so far! Nice that the red paint comes off so easy too.
    While you are ordering parts and tidying the things up. I would recommend you replace the camshaft oil spray bar. Not sure if you know, but they are prone to clogging and starving the cam of oil and it’s downhill from there. Burton supply them as I got mine from there a couple of months ago.
    Points, condenser, rotor arm and dizzy cap might also want replacing? Anyway, look forward to the next instalment as always.

    • @Mk2Mitch

    Looks like have a decent engine there and possibly a later pinto efi unit.
    Keep hold of them alloy engine mounts too. Get some 50mm h/d rubbers and steel cups from RetroFord and your sorted as it will stiffen up the engine nicely without having to buy a w/c x member.
    Alloy sump and bellousing would be nice too.
    Keep up the good work.

    Mk2 rs200 sump is what you need , and the 205 block is not the same as a cosworth they where selected blocks off the line with 2222 stamped on the inlet side of it
