Fantastic vid, Mitch. Years ago, we owned a similar age Fiesta and had exactly the same problems as you but after doing just what you and your Dad did, she ran like a dream. Keep those vids flowing, mate!
Nice to see the progress with the MK3 Mitch - I think its really cool I had several MK3s back in the day! Crazy that the pushrod jumped out!! Anyway great video as always!! Keep up the good work bro!🤙👍
An elderly neighbour had a 1.1 that never saw a service from 1 year to the next. He used to start it up in a morning and sit and warm it up by holding the revs at 3k! not the best alarm clock hearing the tappets screaming for dear life!. 😂
Great to go back to these old engines. Modern engines are all good but these old ones are back to basics and easy to work on. I had the luck of starting my career on these engines and moved to newer engines. Nice video mate 👍👍
We had an F reg Escort for many years with the same HCS engine as yours, believe it or not that Weber carb is real easy to take apart. Your problem with the fuel spillage will be either a worn/dirty float valve or the float itself which may be pourous/damaged. The engines are naturally tappety, you can also use the rule of 9 to adjust the tappets i.e number 8 valve open adjust no 1 tappet & so on, They are lovely simple engines to work on, happy days.
that inlet valve momentarily stuck open, probably off standing, then the pushrod jumped out, not a very common fault, more interesting when the exhaust jumps out, you can get flames out the carb... and that takes some figuring out... my wife wanted a 5dr mk3, [to replace her trashed mk2], nagged me for ages, eventually got a 91 mot fail, did it up, fitted loads of RS Turbo bits, dogs bollocks... 5wks later, "err, it is a tiny bit small with 2 kiddie seats, pushchair and mum in, no room for the shopping, i think i might need a 5dr escort like you said..." WIMMEN... sold it to a posh family with an adopted son, doubled my money, but the poor lad got caught speeding twice on his second day out aah,1996, fun times...
Its because the tappets have not been ajusted when they should, it sounds really rattley, those engines shouldnt sound like a bag of spanners, when ajusted correctly it should sound smooth and sweet,

Reminded me of men and motors from the early 2000s that's a compliment good work 👍

Loving the detail you've gone to, Mitch.
Great video Mitch, nice work on the engine, sounds sweet 👍👌😀

Don't neglect and forget to check the timing on these engines. The distributor cap never gets put back in same place. I've them in the past well off
Nice one Mitch brings back a lot of memories I actually bought a brand new one of these back then it was a great little car 👍
Cheers Mitch for the vid. They were notorious for these problems. It was sounding like castanets at the start well done. 👍 🏴
Need more video's getting addicted to them 🤔😂🤠!
Well diagnosed, i had g reg 1.1glx 5 door 💪💪👍 .
On TH-cam there's some great channels to learn from and your one of them but some TH-camrs haven't got a clue.

Good work all around, it needs the tappets to be done, will run and drive a lot better and you should also check the fuel mixture.

Lovely old job Mitch
Mitch have a look for the build date of your mark three as i used to work on the fiesta assembly line at Dagenham great video crack on
Usually Tinkering and Fixing (Andrew) has done excellent videos on MK3 Fiesta refitting the floppy fabric on seats.
Engine on my mk1 connect sounds better than that, and it’s done 165k and 20 years old.
Good old zetec.
Hope it stops tapping after adjustment 👍
Need the tappets done
Tuneup first fuckaround with carb later
