Very musical drummer. His drum compositions on songs is as beautiful as anything Hal Blaine or the great studio drummers of way back when ever laid down. As long as Chad Smith lives...Rock lives!
Such a cool dude and a great drummer, seems like he’s really settled in to his style lately nothing overly technical but knows how he plays and is now super comfortable in it he loves to push every phrase to the absolute limit before bribing it back into the groove
There are lot if drummers who play lot of complex rythms and patters, but everytime i hear this man play i wanna pick up the sticks again and get back to drums. the grooves, slick fills, reminds of what drumming is supposed to be. Definately not a math puzzle
All the critics giving comments, it's a redundant arguement, Chad plays a great tight pocket and knows a good funky beat and has great timing, most importantly he knows exactly when and when not to play to fit around his band mates who don't just happen to all be multi millionaires because they couldn't play, write songs, or know how to write song parts that complement each other, just like Ringo and the Beatles. You could have a very technically expert drummer like say dream theatres, amazing drummer but can't write a decent memorable tune or song for shit however much they try. And that's a fact.
I was gonna write something similar.....people need to stop thinking drumming is a god damn competition...its not...we should be inspiring each other to grow...chad has timing and a pocket that is top notch...i remeber reading a modern drummer a long time ago and some of the best drummers in the world said that Chad is a human metronome and nobody plays pocket like he does....
@@brandonkain9231 there is nothing wrong with competition if you can mentally handle getting showed up every once in a while or every day bc not being good at what you love doing should be a motivation to get better bc your tired of SUCKING..... I mean the irony here is that Chad is WAY more technical than people think. He has a wicked fast right foot, pretty fast hands, and some of the best hi-hat dynamic control in the world. There's a ton of RHCP songs that are way more involved than people think; all they need to do is listen to the isolated drum track to snow to realize how much more complex it is than it sounds upon first listen. Chad Smith's playing is so incredibly unique; that's what makes him such an incredible drummer. There are a few drummers where you know it is them within 5 seconds. John Bonham is one of them. So is Chad Smith. He's no slouch theory wise either. Ethiopia and Dreams of a Samurai are in 7/4 and 5/4 respectively and he does plenty of odd time signatures with the meatbats
I get hated on a lot by other non drummer musicians and even other dummers sometimes that i dont play double bass. To me if you can accomplish at least similar things without than why have it. For me id have to meve my hi hats to the left and raise my snare a bit to get another bass pedal. To sacrifice even a little bit on the hats and snare is not worth it to me. As long as bass drum snare and high hats are comfortable thats the main part of the kit no sacrifice should be made there. Idk just my thoughts.
I've just realized how good he is (after seeing their episode of From the basement). I think he's the true backbone of RHCP, even more than Flea or Kiedis.
Chad, you Got the Swing of the Thing Man, are going to play with Sammy Hagar again, watching the video's of you playing with his band, you are my favorite drummer that he has had, Keep on Rockin Brother, My Best, Cousin Figel
There is a reason he’s made it this far this long, if you note ( pun intended) he doesn’t have as many pieces as many other drummers, ie Rush, Pink Floyd, Genesis, ect. Yet he does so much. 🤔
Even great drummers can maybe do chops and move around the drum and touch everything super quickly and it is impressive but the sound and groove is just not for everyone bur jesus does chad smiths got it down real groovy
Groove, dynamics, tone, and even humor. Stunning.
I was going to say, it's refreshing to see a drum solo with some actual grooves instead of straight "chops" type stuff
Will ferrel!
@@CHABIEPORTNOY Boring AF.

Probably one of the most underrated drummers!
He is the best in his genre
Chad is so underrated .. he is one of the greats the compliments the songs of RHCP!
He is so not one of the greats haha

All with a single pedal too. Way too many drummers are overly reliant on double kicks these days for speed and creativity.
Chad is a monster drummer
Chops galore and a funky demeanor too

That kit and Chad sounds incredible.
Sometimes drumming is just playing what feels good and it doesn't always have to cram every lick chop fill and roll just to show you can play
