- According to all known laws of aviation, there is no way a bee should be able to fly. Its wings are too small to get its fat little body off the ground. The bee, of course, flies anyway. Because bees don't care what humans think is impossible.
Movie reviewers online still have their Bee Movie opinions, though, so let's take a look at some of the funniest reviews of this 2007 meme fest from the site Letterboxd.

Something I just realized: A B movie (with just the letter “B”) is a film that is low-budget and often all over the place with its writing. This whole thing is a pun off of that type of movie.

I went to summer camp with a crazy vegan who was obsessed with this movie. One morning I put honey in my tea and got yelled at for "beeing exploitative"
Wonder if that was the person who criticized the movie for having the bees return to “working under their capitalist overlords” at the end, seemingly ignoring that SOMEONE’S gotta produce all the stuff we use.
Crazy because bees are actually free to leave if their keepers treat them badly

The Bee Movie transcending from an obscure DreamWorks film to internet sensation was legit beewildering. The interspecies relationships are bee-tshit insane, and we get to a dying world, Vanessa landing a plane like bees, and Ken noticed that they cucked each other after setting up their beesiness.. Just unbeelievable...
We watched the movie in high school and I also noticed that "exploited workers, go back to work or the world will end" message. It made me so mad and no one else in my class gave a shit Q-Q
I still don't understand how "bees have more honey because humans don't take it anymore" result in "bees no longer work"
At some point that extra honey has to runs out and they are still going to have to work, just less. And how does Barry's hive gain more honey from all of the court endeavor when his hive was a wild hive? Did they just straight up take honey that was produced by domesticated hives because 'humans wronged bees and we are bees so yoink!'
That’s because the message isn’t about workers, it’s about bee conservation.
They need bees to work.
But the thing is, the message “work or the world will end” is true. And how much is “exploitation”? Where is the line drawn?

If you say 'X is like slavery', and then the point of the movie is 'X is necessary and you have to do it', you're accidentally framing slavery positively.

This movie wants you to think it's about underrepresented/enslaved workers standing up to their overlords, but it's actually about Barry committing tax evasion and trickle-down economics.
Just wanna say that Barry B Benson has blue eyes while every other bee has brown eyes.
This means that either:
A. Barry is adopted from another hive.
B. Barry was created by God.
More likely, Barry got adopted from another hive.
For a while in 2023 I would watch the bee movie every night to fall asleep I remember all of Ken's lines because he was the only good part of the movie and my favorite part but my favorite line in particular is:
"And for your information I prefer sugar-free artificial sweeteners made by man!......I know it got an aftertaste, I LIKE IT👹"
The weirdest thing about this movie is that when they’re rounding up all the honey, there’s some people sitting at a cafe and a swat team shows up to take their honey at gun point. For whatever reason, they decided to make the guns look as accurate as possible to real m16s even though they’re only on screen for like 5 seconds
The fact that they got actually got Sting to make a cameo in this move is pretty impressive, not gonna lie

Fun fact: Sting accepted to be in this movie, which is considered awful, but refused to make a cameo in an episode of Frasier, the highest rated sitcom of all time.

I watched this in theaters when it came out and I was like 11 bc my family took us to watch every animated movie that was released around the time. I remember being deeply annoyed by the romance because at that point I had seen enough movies to recognize how in every hollywood movie there's a romance and always it's the only role the only woman character ever gets to have, if really not mature enough to unpack the deeper implications of that, so the human-bee romance just made me go 'ugh another stupid romance story where it doesn't belong'. it somehow did not even occur to me that there would be anything strange about such a romance, i was just fully accepting the premise that a movie has to have a romance and there has to be a pretty lady who has no role other than to be a pretty lady, and that this was an annoying aspect of movies, and i was annoyed by it, but was otherwise fully accepting this as a normal thing to happen in a movie. like the bizarreness of this kind of interspecies angle, between a human and an insect less than the size of her pinky, did not register to me at all. and i don't know what that might mean.
the first time i watched this movie was on an airplane, going overseas. i absolutely should have been sleeping, but i couldn't, so i turned this shit on. i think that was the peak bee movie experience.
This movie scarred me as a 6 year old because Winnie the Pooh was my biggest comfort character and seeing him get shot was traumatic, I hated this movie ever since with every fibre of my beeing

As a kid me and my friends roleplayed this film on the school playgrounds.
I had a google doc in middle school that had the entire Bee movie script about 6 or 7 times. The doc was way too big for the shitty chromebooks to handle, every time you opened it the entire computer lagged out so badly it took 5 minutes just to close. Good times.
Shout out to the person who, based on the heading of their reviews, watched Bee Movie every day of 2021, and has not gone insane

This movie evokes a feeling in me whenever I watch it. What feeling are you probably asking? I don’t know; I don’t think I’ve ever known. But even so, it’s something that I’ve never truly experienced before or after. But perhaps it’s not something I’ve experienced before; rather, it’s something different; it’s something un-bee-livable.

I feel like the only person in the world not weirded out by the interspecies romance. Like if it was a normal bee it would be weird but I've got no problem with a human dating a fully sapient bee.
I remember when a family member watched this movie, and got so mad at the two jokes about God and bees being enslaved to The White Man that they yelled and stopped watching the movie immediately

I was 16 in 2007 when this movie came out.
Nothing special about it at the time as a teen. It was just another cgi movie that were coming out frequently.

I can't tell if people know that Barry and Vanessa never officially become a couple. Megamind Vs. The Doom Syndicate should've been a Bee Movie movie so then "It's complicated" would've been their line.

I liked this movie ever I saw it in theaters. I never thought it would bee-come a major meme bee-hemoth at the time (mainly bee-cause I’m pretty sure memes weren’t a thing back then)

Genuinely, of all of the movies I have ever watched, the bee movie is the worst movie I have ever seen by far. It is horrible in every way, and without the humor it would be completely abominable and would sink into the depths of lost media where it belongs.

I maintain that Bee Movie is unironically extremely enjoyable if you check your desire to understand the plot or worldbuilding at the door. If you don't allow yourself to ask a single question, you'll have a fantastic time.

I think this movie vaguely looked at how bees work and improvised a comedy from it tbh. Not sure how the bee and human are supposed to have kids when the bee has a stinger... making him unable to have kids.

Nah this was the greatest movie of all time. Absolutely incomprehensible on every level with every scene taking a left turn directly into a brick wall. Sit someone down who knows nothing about this movie and they wouldn’t be able to predict a single second of the plot. 10/10 no notes.
