  • In today's episode Maryam opens up about how her family mistreated her - and her mother - simply because she was born a girl. She talks about how rights and privileges in the family were only reserved for the boys and how she fought against that system.
We also speak to Isfandyar Inayat from The Citizens Foundation about why girls are forced to leave school.

Feminism ka first use abortion ke liye Kiya gaya west countries mein or ye slogan use kia jata tha
      My Body My Choice
Hamare Kuch bhi samajhne se word ki meaning nahin badal jaye gi feminism ladies ke rights ke liye nahin Aya tha it was for abortion which is completely Haram in our religion

after listening to her regarding her uncle's order to clean his shoes, one thing came into my mind which I want to share with all of you. few years back, when I was studying Law, we went to our Khala's village to attend the wedding of her daughter. I was all dressed up for the event. My mamu came to me. His shoes were filled up with the garbage and cow dung (as in village it is very common) he came and ordered me to clean his shoes which I refused. My khala was there and she scolded me that you are batmeez. if mamu is asking me to clean his shoes, I should clean those immediately. I replied my father has never taught me to clean the shoes of males. its the responsibility of the male to clean his shoes himself. and can't mamu see that I am wearing new dress and I am ready. How can I touch his dirty shoes. this statement really offended my khala and Mamu but I gave no attention towards them.

      Waqiye!
Yeh mera life experience hai(I can be wrong of course and there might be exceptions) ke Allah betiyaan sirf zarf walon ko deta hai. Allah ki rehmat hat kisi ko naseeb nahi hoti. Masha Allah Alhamdulillah I have the most perfect little baby girl. But I know for sure that even if I had 10 baby girls,I would still be equally happy for all of them in every way, just like I am for my first one currently. After her birth,Allah has given me such fulfillment that my heart doesn't even wish for a baby boy for one second. She has completed all my happiness.

So true, my dad's best friend has 2 sons and I am single girl child. He always showed sympathy to my dad. Now I am married to a very understanding person we have been staying with my parents from past 5 months because my mother was not well. Whereas Uncle's one son is in Australia hasn't visited them for 6 years and younger one is a drunkard whose kidney failed at 27 only. Uncle had to donate his kidney and after recovering his son starting drinking again. 2 days back I saw him and he looked unwell and sad.Just remembered how he used to feel bad for us all these years and how I felt bad for him.

Every one has a dream to be something or achieve goals! Be it a boy or a girl! That support of her mamoo, father and mother is really appreciated ! I have two daughters and I wouldn't trade them for my life. The reason middle-class families want a son is that he is considered to be an investment; the prize bond they can cash when they are old. Someone who can look after them, feed them and work day and night to keep them happy. Things are different in cultures where women are independent and are not considered a burden.

You know there was a relative of my dad who was very proud of his 9 sons (or was it 11?). Anyway, my dad was the only son with three sisters. He became yateem at age 15. He felt this person with sons was very proud (in a not so nice way) and degrading somewhat towards them. Freshly yateem kids and widowed woman. During the 1971 war, VERY unfortunately each son was lined up and shot dead except
the youngest. It was the saddest thing for my dad and sometimes my dad is extra sad to think was it pride that Allah did not like? But he never says that’s the reason. It’s just a lingering thought he has.

We were 4 sisters until my paternal family plotted a kidnap of one of my sister. She was kidnapped in 1986 and we haven’t seen her since then. My mother was kept imprison in a small room of the house while the police was investigating the kidnap so that my mother doesn’t meet the police and show suspicion on anyone.
Eventually the lady who kidnapped our sister was arrested and my father identified her. But my Phuppo and phuppa got her bailed saying that the girl’s parents are currently in not the correct state of mind to identify the suspect and an innocent lady shouldn’t stay behind bars.....
Eventually my father moved out of his parents house to start a new life with my mother and us, 3 daughters .

Felt so sad to know about life of this girl. Can see her pain and struggle. But she did not submit to the pressure and fought against all odds. These are the people who are helped by Allah.

Hats off to you Maryam..the struggle and power you showed to talk up on gender discrimination based on your own life is just beyond any expression of words. May Allah protect you and bless your father with speedy recovery and health. Amen. @kanwalahmed you are a gem.. investing in raising these issues which are a norm basically in our society and to raise voice aginst them is merely being rebellious. More power to team kanwal👍

Awesome. Having traditional middle class background myself, I was unable to understand the complaints of my late mother towards the society. She was a working lady and worked hard to stabilize her brothers and then our family (with my father.). But as my hair started growing white, i shifted to Europe and became proud father of little daughter, I started realizing many issues. Well its never too late and we can still contribute a lot positively. Thanks Kanwal for sharing this interview. All prayers and best wishes to this young girl.

Kudos to Maryam for fighting back! May all her dreams come true! Ridiculous that in this day and age girls and women are still discriminated against! The first word revealed to us by Allah swt was 'iqra' ie read and educate yourself! Islam teaches us that girls are a blessing to parents! Khadijah RA, the wife of the prophet (saw) was an astute and successful businesswoman! As a teacher myself I know that education is truly the means to a future full of opportunities!

Love the one sentence Marriam said, our society think when women are talking about the feminism they are asking to have no men in their life which is not true! So that's the whole Taboo twisted by male dominate society and that's the reason some women are against raising voice for another victims or aurat march.. I wish we all can understand this fine line and work together to have our country a better place for all the females. Aameen

Some women get erased Some reappear by revolt. Women in general struggle through out their lives with the forces that made them disappear or trying to do so ... they would tell her story for her, or write her out of the story.
You my girl is an inspiration for all those whose been put on trial for being girl. You broke all shackles .. Nothing can stop you Maryam
Since you have the ability and courage to tell us your story, and for me it is already a victory ✌

Thank you for making those of us aware of such important realities. I have seen this difference very closely in this day and age in the western world as well ... As the difference is often from the parents which is very sad ... as a daughter we do far more then any son can do... I am blessed with a daughter no son no stress nor will I be from this party of people who make the difference between a son and daughter. Our daughter is equivalent to 10 sons as in my opinion sons are useless.

I grew up in America and I have seen and experienced very similar things. Gender discrimination is a sickness, the real pandemic.
