@@jacthing1 if it's rail guns yea it'll probably squeeze the planet so tight it breaks the crust around it on both sides as magma fills the area but if it's a lazer like it's imagined to be then the recoil would be miniscule

you can use supergridding to put large railguns on small grids, the railguns will look like large ones, but only take as much space as a small one. So you can put them much closer together

I wonder what you could do with supergridding it. like not even starkiller platform size, but the same amount or more railguns in a small space. Just absolutely remove a ship.
@@Zer0sLegion there isnt much on youtube about it because not many people understand what it is. This is how to do it though. You save any kind of large grid block as a blueprint, just one though. Then you open the blueprint file by renaming it to .zip and extracting it with any kind of software you'd like, WinRaR worked for me. Rename the file you got to .xml, then open the .xml in any kind of xml editor, i used notepad++ for this. Find where it says something about grid size : "Large". Change that to grid size : "small" Then, save the file, rename it to (blueprint name).sbc Then get ingame, copy the blueprint to clipboard and you have your very own large grid block that you can paste on small grid ships, which you can use to paste veery high density railguns onto a rotor. Hope that helps

@@Zer0sLegion You're likely to not find a good balance honestly. Lag is just too system specific to really tune for it (beyond not insta-crashing SE lol), and no matter how you tune it, folks will just scale the number of cannons up/down to achieve the destruction they want. Honestly, my suggestion is to find a level destruction per cannon you want it to have, and go from there. If you're trying to limit weapon spam killing the sim-speed, what you might want to do instead, is to use the block type limit settings in the block definition files.
In my testing of the rail guns a single one can puncture something like 23 blocks and still damage a hydrogen tank, or 4 layers of heavy armor. Most ships are not layered in 4 heavy full blocks to protect them cuz it would be to heavy to move lol so it's just a matter of knowing where to fire to do incredible damage, and the small ones can be used with a script on some rotors to function as literal turrets as well altough I couldn't find a design proper enough to really protect them mainly from other rail guns, let alone other types of fire they are so bulky.

Here's a challenge, make the Stonehenge from ACE COMBAT series! tl;dr its a railgun battery consisting of 8 railguns that fires 12cm shells at ridiculous speeds, originally used to destroy the giant debris of a giant asteroid that was on crash course on earth but usually was used to shoot down aircrafts.
God imagine you're playing Space Engineers, chilling, mining. You've got a decent-sized asteroid base... Then some asshole rocks up in a freaking planet and just deletes you, your base, and the asteroid in one shot.
This is so much better than the Death Star. Honestly, if you kept shooting on that planet, you eventually would be able to go through it and technically collapse its atmosphere, so Starkiller Base turned out to be a much more lore-accurate weapon.
Build the german Schwerer Gustav, it was a railway gun with a range of 47km (or 29miles) its caliber was 800mm (80cm). Would be nice to see it in Space Engineers
What's the max range of the railguns? Is it possible to edit their files and make them orbit to ground capable if they aren't already? And at that point, how much bigger could the explosions be? It would be awesome to see the "Starkiller Star" fire from space and completely decimate a mountain
It's 2km but I did try to edit it and as a certain distance they just get removed anyway. I presume there's s certain distance from the player that projectiles can be.

i dont know if it works anymore building a gravity drive out of a few artificial gravity generators but if it does work you could build a creation of any scale and it would have all axis of movment with out the lag.. a buddy in a server i used to constant made a moon core'er that was.. it was big enough to drill a .5km hole round.
I'm a game developer and I'm making a game that will have a lot of the mechanics that space engineers have. To reduce lag you can start with already large ships and build onto them. My game will also include a planetary laser so yes someone could make a death Star but I will not add a death Star to my game or Star wars stuff. I will just add everything so someone else can build it so I don't get sued. It wasn't me Star wars. I didn't build the death Star it was this guy. Lol. So there will be a death star in my game I can almost guarantee. Well at least all of the parts will be laying around.

Shaped like a cylinder, so 4 sets or 8 of rail guns if you have 2 sub grids offset by 90 degrees, if there’s space. Like a revolver but instead of firing forward it fires radially.

I've seen people use supergriding but I'm not too familiar of how it works myself, I think it's time for some research 🧐

I haven't tested it personally but I believe it was mentioned to be a bug, just like shell ricochet.

No it's the same size but it was only named Ilum retroactively and they had to make it really small to accommodate Starkiller Base.

I'm not sure they moved it, I'm pretty sure they just fired across the galaxy. Either way, it's a pretty big flex
