Because of you Thomas, I now slow down and look for composition. I was in a woodland the other day and everything came together. I walked away with one shot, I was relaxed and enjoyed being a part of nature. Instead of running around like a headless chicken shooting from the hip. Thank you.

Any suggestions close to Portland? Staying there for 2 days, and I have a general idea of what to shoot (gnarly trees, beaches, and the famous Oregon coast) but don't know the best spots to go to.

@@kadaberkz Some of the famous ones: Washington Park, Mt. Hood, Multnomah Falls, Smith Rock, silver falls, Lost Lake, Trillium Lake, also about 100 different water falls along the Columbia River. Maybe Painted Hills, its about 4 hours from Portland. Opal Creek. Of course, Cannon Beach, and Oswald West state park.

There is a gorgeous loop that runs you past Gresham up and around Mount Hood. You can stop at the top play in the snow and have lunch at the lodge . Then come down the other side and back to Portland driving through the Gorge where you will be able to photograph Multnomah Falls. Just past the Falls there is a short drive up to a lookout which gives you a fantastic view of the gorge. At Bonneville damn there is an aquarium with huge Sturgeons in it and a fish ladder the Salmon use

But last summer I got to visit some distant relativs that lives on the Olympic Peninsula, and my god, I loved every minute. I think Olympic National Park is one of those location that many non-american does not know about.

So nice to see you in the part of the world I live in. I'm on the Canadian side of the border. This is the type of landscape that is pretty much out my back door and what I am most used to so it's nice to see it through fresh eyes. I do struggle to get reinspired with it as it's something I've grown up with and to my eyes it becomes "ordinary" so I appreciate the news lens on it. It reminds me of when I went to Wales and was blown away by the Brecon Beacons as I had no idea of this landscape and so opposite to what I was used to - vast landscapes you could see for miles. My British friends couldn't believe how impressed I was coming from the "wilds of Canada" but I just loved it!

Thomas, just started watching your videos and looking for more. Your photography is not only really good but very inspiring. watching this video reminded me of a track through the woods with my brother and me in North Carolina during the fall color. we were super excited and ready to get going in the morning and found out that it was raining. Nevertheless we pursued it being the brave photographers we are..what I did not understand then but do now is that slow rainy day in the forest is an amazing photography experience. Just like you experienced in this video. In fact this is when I took what I consider one of my best photos in my catalog. If you ever get the chance to go to North Carolina blue ridge Smoky mountains you won't be disappointed. Photo opportunities everywhere. Please keep on delivering the great content you have been doing
    Thanks

I have never visited the PNW but it is on my list. What a beautiful image you captured! I hope that with time the five of you will be able to look back at the 3 weeks with humor even if it is combined with a "never again!" thought. I think professional photographers, especially outdoor photographers, are by nature independent souls. Packing five of you in that rolling palace must have been challenging. I am looking forward to seeing the result.

Tom your mix of excitement and apprehension was quite evident. The PNW is my absolute favorite place to pursue a mix of dramatic and intimate landscapes. Good luck w/ the clowns on your journey... can only imagine how chaotic life will be in and around that trailer. Just a quick questions for you... why no lens shade? I can see two obvious applications in your video... 1: The shade keeps the rain off. Other than being near and Icelandic fall or torrential rain, I never need to protect my camera and lens from rain w/ an umbrella if I have a lens shade. 2: A lens shade on your telephoto would have blocked the possible flare in your backlit composition... just curious, as I shoot in pretty tough weather year round (live in MN (Northcentral US) and use a shade to keep everything from snow, rain, and the splash of waves off my lens.
