Hi, Thomas. As always a great video. Thanks to the f4 superheroes, a friend and I left Washington to go to the Valley of Fire a day or so ago to escape the Apocalypse in the desert.. Long drive, but after Death Valley, our own wacky blizzard, we headed to this state park I didn't even know existed until you folks highlighted it. Lord. No kidding. This was some amazing place. Didn't take any gear, but hiked around with taking just some phone snaps. This time of year? You need to return. The colors of the spring foliage NIW was glowing in astounding cerulean blues and otherworldly new greens. Honestly. There were colors I've never seen in nature in the Sping. Favorite place? The "rasberry ripple" area you shot, although Gavins fire area was, indeed, astounding. What a park? Didn't have a clue about it. Great way to escape this madness for a day.... and to think we didn't even know it existed until I saw the f4 vlogs. Yes. One can easily spend a week in this magical place. Thanks for the tip! You DO need to come back! Oh. Drove through the Strip to take a look at the devastation, not my favorite place, but damn eerie to see it as a ghost town. Keep your videos coming. You folks are brightening the day of thousands, and many are greatful, including moi. Hang in there. Thanks much.

Ive done that same hike out to the Fire Wave...easy to get turned around. I'm glad to hear that as a novice photographer I am not the only one who struggles finding the right composition. To hear that it didn't come easy for you made me feel a bit more confident! When we visit Vegas I leave my husband in the poker room, load up my hiking gear and camera in the rental car, and head to either Valley of Fire or Red Rock Canyon. Both are beautiful places but you need more than 24 hours to really enjoy either one of them. Love your work and greatly appreciate all the "teaching" in each video; I'm always learning and inspired by you. Safe travels.
Such a cool place. I went out there alone a while back and once I got away from the road I realised I didn't know my way back. Luckily, I found myself, and once again, the road.
Your work is always something special to behold. I live only 60 miles from VOF and have hiked the area more than a dozen times, finding numerous incredible sites to shoot off trail. So if you ever chance this way again or know of any of your mates venturing out here I would be more than happy to take them around to several of the very special areas I have discovered. Thank you again for your splendid photos!
Love the analogy; "raspberry ripple ice cream". I personally like a bit of go-pro, its gives me the feeling I'm there with you or peering over your shoulder.
@@QuietLightPhoto - haha ... could have filmed a spoof with you guys jumping out from behind rocks etc and Tom "*shooting" away before making it to the ultimate photography location! ;) *substitute "shooting" for "photographing" for a more family friendly story :P
When I see an area so rich and chaotic, my eye goes to the close up. I absolutely love the pattern, colour and texture of the rock where you put down your back pack at 2:41 of the video. I also love how you point out the shapes, lighting, foregrounds and leading lines in the compositions that you finally chose to shoot. Thanks for the lessons and your sense of humour along the way. I am no photographer, But I like your landscapes, your storytelling now - and how you are handling the light is excellent. About this I´ve learned from watching your videos.and exercising with an old borrowed smartphone. Your way to wait for the right moment. not taking so much photoes, that´s great I began with a filmcamara, 24 photoes on one film 1970. you remembered me that less (photopraphes) can be more Thank you!
What serendipity. I live in Las Vegas. Valley of Fire State Park is only 40 miles away. We’ve been there several times. Saw a herd of bighorn sheep at sunset one trip. I’m interested in exploring desert landscape photography, so this video is very helpful to me.
The morning shoot where you didn't know the name, was the Fire Wave, great location. I too go shooting in flip flops, my photography friends call me flip flop John! Love your videos and all the F4 group.
Nice scramble. Very realistic view of how landscape photography goes most if the time. I thought for sure you were going to do a giant pano in that morning light. Good work.
Loved the perspective from your head! Funny to follow your view as you drink and jump around rocks and to hear you sing to yourself. The happiness of the moment really comes through :)
Really nice to see a bit of franticness about the shoot as a change. GoPro adding a different feel as well, adding to the franticness. I can definitely relate to this as an amateur! good luck with the rest of the trip
I live here in Nevada and you are correct. It is pretty hard to get any good photos of our landscape, although beautiful photos aren't that easy to take.
In mid February, at dusk, rattlesnakes would not be much of an issue. They would be in their dens. The hours for sunning would most likely be over. Good idea to wear shoes for overall safety though.
Wonderful video Thomas! I visited this place a little over 2 years ago. It looks like your last image was taken of the rock formation known as the Fire Wave. I had planned on hiking there, except the morning I was in the park, they were doing a search and rescue of a lost hiker in that area, so that part of the park was closed. Oh well, next time. My second choice was the White Dome trail, which was spectacular. Thanks for this and all your videos!
