My Friends Were Mountaineers: A film about Dee Molenaar

- Dee Molenaar, photographer, artist and icon in the Pacific Northwest mountaineering community passed away recently at the age of 101. Filmmaker and DPReview collaborator Eric Becker spent some time with Dee and his children before he died, and has made a short film about Molenaar's inspirational life. Watch it exclusively here.

It's also about bringing tears to a 7 foot 250 pound guy who lost his father this year. If only I had a quarter of his memories on film.

I didn't know this man, neither his family nor his friends nor his passion towards mountains.. but I can't hold my tears.. life is all about creating memories, making friends, caring for family.. what a beautiful video.. thanks for sharing in this hard time.. I hope everyone is fine, I wish all who are suffering from Covid19 recover soon

I didn't shed a tear watching this video. Instead I smiled and rejoiced this man. He lead an amazing life of Adventure, Art, Exploration, Teaching others and just LOVING THE OUTDOORS. Plus he lived long, happy and was able to enjoy his friends and family. So no, I can't shed a tear but instead I learned from him and CELEBRATE HIS LIFE. He is an inspiration to us all. R.I.P. Sir, you earned it. Thanks for sharing this celebration of life during these difficult times.
Wonderful film. I cried because I was so in awe but also for myself with grand aspirations but life interceded.
I cried like a baby watching this. And I am the kinda guy who eats nails for breakfast without breaking a sweat. We all need to reflect a bit nowadays. Thanks for the video.

The Brotherhood of the Rope. It's my most favorite Himalayan mountaineering story. Dee offered so much for the team in 1953. I have much respect for him and the team as they have developed a bond throughout their lifetime.
Best 12 min spent in a long time. Its heartwarming to see someone's life and how one man had so many life and world changing experiences. Amazing

Wow, Dee Molenaar lived the life we all aspire to have. He had the respect of his peers and beloved by his family. All my friends are mountaineers
