It is worse to have it not standing upright. Standing upright it is not touching the cork, right?

@@Dermie For longterm storage, you want the wine on its side to keep the cork wet, which keeps it from drying it out and cracking. However, the vast majority of NZ and Australian wine is screw-top, so it doesn't matter.
