A tip for anyone struggling to do this with the last type of fitting shown in the video (The G4 bulb type). Get a torch and light up from underneath, then look for one of the three metal prongs (you should be able to just see them from the edge) and pry carefully from beside one of those.
I am struggling to get the cover off of the G4. I’ve tried a flathead screwdriver, knife, and box cutter. There’s just no space to fit anything in there to pry it off. Any tips?

Both fittings (meaning the actual part that holds the pins for the halogen bulbs) are very loose and will not hold the pins tightly. Now, I believe that the heat caused by the halogen bulbs has weakened the ceramic over time. I feel these need replacing. IKEA has disco'd the range hood in question and i am wondering if parts might still be available and any instruction on how to do the replacement would be much appreciated. The brand name on the range hood was Kortvarig.
Thank you for this video. I struggled with mine and found this (G4 model): where letters are imprinted into the ring - DO NOT try and remove the ring near the letters. There is a little foot at the "MAX" letters. Insert your thin screw driver left or right of the imprint at least 2cms. That way you are not trying to remove where the tool cannot get into the gap. After trying to remove my working lamp's ring, I accidentally discovered where the feet are and, bingo, it comes off really easily when not trying to insert a screw driver (or other thin tool) near the imprints. Good luck.
Hi, I have the G4s on my hood and the lights have gone off in pairs of two, so, I'm thinking the issue is electrical and not from having actual burned bulbs. Is that possible?
I have problems replacing the G4 I have the old ones removed but I can't get them in again, and I did not break of the "legs" on the old ones, so nothing is stuck..
For a Whirlpool RANGE HOOD Model # UXT5230BDW Replacing a Halogen Lamp Turn off the range hood and allow the halogen lamp to cool. To avoid damage or decreasing the life of the new lamp, do not touch the lamp with bare fingers. Replace the lamp, using tissue or wearing cotton gloves to handle the lamp. If new lights do not operate, make sure the lamps are inserted correctly before calling service. 1. Disconnect power. 2. Use a flat-blade screwdriver and gently pry the light cover loose. 3. Remove the lamp and replace it with a 120-volt, 40-watt maximum, halogen lamp made for a G-9 base. 4. Replace the light cover. 5. Reconnect power.
My GE range hood has the GU10 lights but the replacement bulb stays loose. I've tried several different times to get it to stay tight but it won't. It randomly falls out.
Newer Proline rangehoods have faulty lights and controller. Lights became really dim within months of getting the unit and spent hours trying to replace bulbs, finally called them. They sent the new lights and the controller which took months to arrive and had to spend another hour+ to install it all. It's not complicated, just tedious because of having to do it all in confined spaces. Needless to say, better quality control would have avoided all this hassle.
Anyone having a problem removing the glass cover? The flush mount does not allow for an exacto knife let alone a small screwdriver to get in there along one of the 3 tabs to remove. Any advice would be appreciated.
I wholeheartedly agree! I've had a Danby (under some other name) for less than 2 years (but of course more than 1 which is the warranty) and already the transformer has blown, the board has blown and like 3 bulbs have blown. Piece of crap. Thanks for this video, very helpful!
After removing the blown lamp I found it impossible to insert a new bulb. In fact I broke off one of the pins on the replacement bulb. There is obviously a misalignment of the lamp casing to the bulb holder. For me a ridiculous design. Will never buy this brand / design again.
Removing the G4 cover on the range hood is insanely difficult. I feel like I'm going to gouge my hand before I get this thing off. When you push in on the opposite side like what is done in the video the whole rangehood bends so there is no leverage
@@pattioday319 My husband managed to get the lights out, from which we figured out that mine do not match any in the video. I have been working with customer service to order replacements (they are on backorder now).
I hate having to replace these G4 bulbs. The insertion does not work nearly as easily as the video would seem to indicate. Very difficult to get the two pins in. Grrrrr....
The G10 style is ridiculous. Looks super simple in this video. But in reality, the flat glass portion of the bulb is flush with the hood. So you can't get your fingers around the bulb to turn it. Horrible design.
nothing about wiring 2 LED lightbulbs. Why else would you want to change the lights? This is a waste of 3 min and meant for people who cannot change the physical bulb themselves. These people should just call a handyman or a "professional". And if they need instructions to change a bulb, they should not try and do this themselves.

my bulb is flush with the ceiling of the hood so I cant grip the rim of the light to turn or twist it, this lovely video is of no use at all

I agree. It’s a horror to have to change bulbs. Must be a trick. Wondering if I could use a different bulb that sticks out a little.
The trick is a suction cup, which some range hood providers apparently provide for changing the bulbs.
