I both agree and disagree.
In particular case of SkinnyMedic I do get the kits "as is", but I also use that knowledge to build my own for different situations.
My one issue is that if you get "someone else's kit", it might not work for you.
That being said, SkinnyMedic's kits are very well thought through to the point that you are not just paying for the kit itself, but for the knowledge, expertise and respect of all the work that went into building it and keeping it up to date.

I never leave the house without a Swat T, Combat Gauze, Gloves, and a compression bandage. Love the Swat T. One handed use is doable with practice and it's very flat and compact. Great kit and great video.

I made my own kit with an OLAES 4" bandage wrapped in a SWAT-T. The OLAES contains extra gauze and an occlusive dressing for a chest seal. With just these two items, you can treat many situations, combining the OLAES bandage and its components with the SWAT-T for the following scenarios:
A tourniquet; Two pressure bandages (gauze + SWAT-T for 1st, OLAES for 2nd); wound packing + pressure bandage (gauze for wound packing, SWAT-T or OLAES for pressure bandage); chest seal (occlusive dressing secured with OLAES or SWAT-T); eye cup (part of OLAES)

This is a great kit! I carry it every day. I put all this in a condor first Responders pouch along with a hemostatic agent and some more gauze but I'm about to by a second kit. Way better in price than competitors and good quality.
I like how skinny sells supplies, but he does it purely to make sure people are prepared.
I made one similar with just a 4" Israeli bandage with the outer packaging stripped off wrapped in a SWAT. It's not ideal but it fits in a jeans pocket for those times when I don't have my pack with my ifak

lol, I love the bloopers. I ordered the EDC kit and RATS tourniquet. I have a North American trauma kit and just a common first aid kit from North American I bought both at Gander Mountain years ago. I think I will have all I need for everything from first aid to trauma with the 2 different types of tourniquets. I'm thinking about getting the CATS tourniquet also but I'm not sure I need a third ,,but different type of tourniquet. Great videos, I'm learning a lot. I had an accident last year and I almost bleed out , and I carry a gun, so now I'm trying to learn as much as I can and get some tools together.

I thought it was really funny how you kind of accidentally actually applied the tourniquet lol also drives home the point that just because you apply a TQ does not instantly mean you will lose the limb. Great video! Your videos were the #1 reason I started thinking about medical supplies and carrying them with me.

Goddamnit. As a hospital (floor) nurse, I was really interested in seeing the demonstration of how vaseline gauze was used to seal a sucking chest wound. I had a feeling it involved the wrapper but was still hoping to learn something new.
My take on this SOFTwide carried in phlster carrier on belt Then vaccumend packed Combat gauze H&H mini pressure dressing (2) Beacon pocket chest seal Not cheap but small and highly effective

Great vid. 2 questions... Would you need to carry tape with this for the Vaseline dressing? Secondly, would you recommend carrying both a clotting bandage and the compressed gauze depending on what you come across?
I use a rats through the belt loops like warrior poet. In my back jeans pocket I have h&h compressed gauze, quikclot 3x24 gauze, 3ft gorrila tape and gloves, vacuum sealed in one package. It's about 3x4x1inches or trifold wallet size.

potential dumb question: why would you need both the NAR pressure bandage and the SWAT tourniquet. it seems like both can be a pressure bandage, and both can be a tourniquet. is it just for redundany / multiple wounds?

With chest wounds, we just seal them up, is there anything you can do to slow the bleeding down to keep them from bleeding out inside the chest cavity so quickly?
Nice kit Skinny. Also will body heat and sweat degrade elastic tourniquets like the swat t and tk4 (inside or out of its packaging) to the point of it failing of used? if so how often should we replace them? And is there much of a difference btw quick clot gauze and the sport sponge version?
The gauze is easier to use to me. The sponge is good for someone on a budget. I normally check my gear in the spring.
How safe is it to practice cutting off blood flow? Could serious damage happen from over tightening a tourniquet just for a minute?
have you ever thought of putting some sort of training program together that was kit specific for the different kits you offer. I'm thinking something that explores the capability and limitations of each kit and provides proper training with each item in the various use cases?

I have been thinking about the POOR MAN'S ISRAELI BAND and I would like to know if you think it could work: a Kotex towel and Duck tape (very tight).

You say to tape down the chest seals. does your kit include the tape as part of your shrink wrapped kit? Also, what about gloves?
I don't have easy access to take that could fold resell, so that would be something to add. You could always hold the chest seal with firm pressure. Yes, a pair of gloves wouldn't be a bad idea.
Do you have a recommendation as to where to get training for emergency/trauma medicine? I just completed a CERT class in my area, Palm Beach County, Fl. And I wanted to learn more. Thanks for the videos they are invaluable!

No you need to apply firm pressure to seal the chest seal. You could add some ducktape folded flat to help wit this.

How does a Ambulance that charges thousands for a ride, not utilize a proper chest seal? Hospitals literally charge a 1,000% markup on cheap products like a band aid.
Inspectorzinn2 ambulances are from a different company or not involved with the hospitals financially
Those of us in the business don't need no steenking clever gadget. Our brain is the clever gadget and we use what we have. Same with tourniquets. We'd use a BP cuff. For mass casualty, we do have a few CAT tourniquets.
What are your thoughts on QuikClot EMS Rolled Gauze 3 x 48.
Same stuff as combat gauze it is just shorter, rolled instead of Z folded and doesn't have the x ray strip. Good stuff.

About a year late with the answer...
There are smaller packages of haemostatic gauze:
Celox Rapid ribbon, for narrow wound channels,
Woundclot trauma is more compact,
And of course the haemostatic dressings.
But think of the following:
You need the haemostatic agent at the source of bleeding and you need to fill up the wound to get pressure from outside to the source of bleeding.
A small package of haemostatic dressings means that you probably need a pack of compressed gauze to backfill.

EMT basic is easy easy easy. Medic level training is not. I'm going through it not. Lol
I finished my EMT-B in 3 months, A-EMT is a little longer, a month or two give or take, but still only one semester at our community college here in Alabama. Appx. 150-200 hours of training/class time not including clinical hours for EMT-B.

Take a Stop the Bleed course. No free gear (other than gloves, haha) but great free training.
Also, a Swat-T, and regular gauze will be less than $10. Wrap some duct tape around a used gift card for flat pack. Use the gauze or Swat-T packaging as your chest seal.

As for learning the use of medical device to use on the public
is not agreeable.
As a former CPR/AED and First Aid Instructor with the ARC. I had trained many on the Good
Samaritan laws. The myth of it: If you help a person and you do not
have a medical background then you will not get sued or prosecuted for
unintentional injury or wrongful death. Here in
the U.S. anyone can be sued.
Non trained person sees a person on the ground hemorrhaging
and he/she take a towel to stop the bleeding. If the person on the ground does
not make it. In the death investigation will have how the injury occurred and
did anyone offered aid (Good
Samaritan) Yes a towel was used to try to stop the bleeding. In the case you
did what you can and you are covered by the Good Samaritan laws.
If the investigation report read like this: A person on the ground
hemorrhaging and he/she used a CAT- Tourniquet, Combat Gauze, SWAT-T, Quikclot, then comes the big question are you certified to use these items? So you learned this on TH-cam and you say SkinnyMedic did a great job showing you how to use it. Now there will be an issue with this.
There is a way to be certified to use these products without having to be a certified as a EMT. Get certified in TECC or TCCC. And you will be certified with NAEMT.

Try to install a Swat T with one hand. Very difficult and virtually impossible to install on wounded arm with opposite side hand. This is a major problem with this style of tourniquet. All videos showing Swat T being used on a arm, I have seen, show two hands being used not self application .
If blood flow isn't stopped with 1st Swat T application need to unwrap and reinstall.
Not s a problem with the C-A-T Tourniquet Generation 7. With one hand slip tourniquet over leg or arm, pull snug with one hand and wind tightening arm till bleeding stops.
