Bentley Pascoe at what point do you consider a planted tank Mature? I’m new to planted tanks, I jumped all in with three tanks all at once. Been battling algae for the last couple of months.
@@StainlessGrange typically a couple months is enough, basically you need enough time to have an active biofilm layer all over the place and have seen plant/algae growth reliably.
Quick question towards the front right side of your tank is a tall plant that looks like spokes on a wheel and gets redder near the top. Do you (or anyone) know the name of that plant? I used to have a few and want it again! Right at 1:40 of the video.
@@DmaaaaaxC Ludwigia Pantanal or more formally: Ludwigia Inclinata var Pantanal. It gets bigger as you grow it out, but you can typically find it in tissue cultures, otherwise I sell it from time to time when the weather is right.
Thanks for the info Bentley. How and where would you sell a couple of stalks to get me started (ebay or you have a site?) BTW, Do you (or anyone else) have a point of contact at Fluval to see if they can add a few more light settings for each 24hr period. I would love to have a unique sunrise and sunset setting like cooler in the morning and warmer at night. This would also give you awesome looking transitions to your midday lights. Or perhaps while I am at work, I can have the lights at 50% and when I get home I can enjoy them for a couple more hours at the full setting without worrying about too much light and algae blooms...options would be nice and should be very doable with the Fluval app and a software update!! PLEASE FLUVAL!!!
Bentley's video for Fluval 3.0 Plant Light is the very best I've found. No wasted time on opening the box, just an excellent review. Most importantly, he tells you his personal settings and adjustments for different tank depths. That's what I wanted to know in the first place. I found the on off button myself. The app is easy to download. The other videos just told the basics, that's why this one is SO much more helpful. Thanks, Bentley.
Thank you for the review, Bentley. You say it's only your opinion, but your plants speak for your experience and choices. Really good information to have about the blue setting and algae.
I've been looking for this level of explanation on the color spectrum. I've been battling algea for months now... Blue is cranked to 100%. I'll be dialing this back now. We just really like the look of the cooler color spectrum. Thanks for the great info!
I have a Fluval 3.0 on both of my low-tech planted community tanks, and I have come to really love this fixture. With what I consider the proper settings for my tanks, this fixture has allowed me to avoid algae while growing beautiful plants. For what it may be worth to others, my plants are slow growing (e.g., anubias) and I dialed the out-of-the-box manufacturer's settings for planted tanks way, way back. I cut the original settings by 75% across the board for daylight with no night light at all.
Your videos convinced me to buy this and on another video you gave me great advice on which light to get. I went all in and bought the 48 for my main display and the nano for my refugium/sump. Keep up to awesome content.
I have 2 of these and I can tell you WORTH EVERY PENNY! I've gone through so many lights in my 5 years keeping fish, nothing NOTHING even comes close to this light in terms of overall power and functionality!
Helpful review, and i appreciate you sharing your personal settings. One of my tanks has a problem with algae, and I've cut back the blue to match yours to see if that helps. One criticism I have of the line is that there's no 30" light, just 24" and 36, which aren't perfect for a 20-long. I bought the 24" and I'm not thrilled with the dimmer areas to the sides and corners.
Great video, thanks for all the info especially showing what your personal settings are. I did not know about the blue & algae, I'm actually battling some algae in a tank with 3.0's on it & will he changing the blue setting!!
Enjoyed watching your video I’m planning on getting a 125 gallon fish tank I will be growing low to medium light how many lights to I need to put on my tank tank u
This is a crazy amount of information, I really appreciate it! I’m just setting up my 20 gallon high now, I got my light and c02 today and I’m about to order plants. I plan on heavily planting it so I’m going to follow your advice here.
Thank you SO much for your tip on lowering the blue! I have a cheap Nicrew on one tank and I battle BBA on there like nobody's business. I've adjusted my ferts and lighting, but I never thought to adjust the blue light. You've sold me on this light just for it's adjustability alone. THANK YOU!
Thank you for all the information. Your videos are great. I have a 125 (72”) tank that is going to have fish and some plants (more fish that plants). What size Plant 3.0 light should I get for that tank and how many do you recommend? Should I get multiple smaller lights, one big light? One big and one small? Thank you for your help in advance.
Great tips. I had my 3.0s on the planted setting right out of the box and now realize that setting is too much for a newer tank. I was getting decent results at best. Thank you for this vid.
Great video!! I’m going to drop the blue down on mine. I have a little more algae than I can handle on my Anubias, very much worth a try. Thank you for sharing!!
Great info! I'm the proud owner (😂) of three of these lights. Two 48-60 and one Nano. Just had them about a month. The nano less than a week. I just started seeing some algae especially in my newly setup nano. I had a feeling about the blue light needing to come down. I was happy to hear you mention that. I also dialed it back from where it was. I wasn't max power but about 75%. I have since went to 50%. I would really like to see some videos about the "Pro" Settings and using that for a Siesta. Would you recommend a Siesta for a CO2 tank though? I am guessing not? I would also like to see a video about dialing this light in for specific plants. Especially Red or Pink Varients. Thanks again!
The coop linked your video, thanks it's very helpful for me right now, I'm setting up a ( my first in a decade) 75 gallon aquarium. Planning on a planted community.
Thank you SO MUCH! You need to work for Fluval !!!! We have had this light for about 3 months and had no idea about the BLUE intensity growing algae ~ This is not explained in the Fluval 3.0 directions!! No wonder we have been fighting a losing battle with algae!!
Your channel is really making me consider a planted tank again. I somehow manage to obliterate them quickly. It’s a good job I’m good at keeping koi as plants are definitely my nemesis.
Hi! I currently (plant to add more) have a 10 gallon tank with rotala rotundifolia, narrow leaf ludwiga, pearl weed, nano anubias, lobelia mini cardinals and a java fern (only 1 leaf), java moss. Just got this light free from a friend, any recommendations on light settings? After watching this I set mine (Sunrise: 2 hrs Day: 10% red, 1% blue, 30% all whites, Night 2 hrs and Sleep at 9) do you think is good to start out? Sorry so long and thank you for the video tips!!
Honestly I think those are very good settings, just watch for any spikes in algae week to week. If you do seem a sudden rush of algae, start dialing the whites down 5% and monitor for another week until you find the right medium of good plant health and minimal algae (typically just a little build up on glass, but none of the big hair algae types). Cheers!
Great video! This was so helpful. I just started a planted 29 and have this light but was very unsure about what settings to use. Thank you! Is this light suppose to run hot when you have your settings to the max? I have a seaclear 29 and the light actually boughed the acrylic strip between the filter opening and light opening. I had it sitting in that spot while I was working in the tank. I’m not happy about this. Love the light but was just wondering if this is normal.
Yes, this light does run a bit warm, but I've yet to have mine bow any acrylic and more than warm temp water would on lids for example; however, my acrylic is all a bit thicker than a 29 will be. I'm glad this could help and thanks for the comment - I really do love getting feedback - thank you!
Thanks for this informative video! Mine was everything at 100% on my 29G... And was trying to adjust my ferts to reduce the staghorn algae and the BBA. I did put the white in the 80%, and kept only 5% of blue spectrum. Thanks again!
Man this is a superb video many many thanks new sub 👍 about to purchase my first 3.0 for my 240L and was wondering if to get the 46W or 59W version ? Kind regards
@@BentleyPascoe thanks man the tank is 120cm the 46W is a 91cm min to max 122cm and the 59W min starts at 115W min to 145cm which would you recommend ? Again superb channel much praise love it 👍
Thanks for sharing your opinion on the Fluval 3.0 Bentley, very informative. I noticed you don't have any light on at night. Do you recommend total darkness over low blue light or night mode?
This is a personal choice mostly. I tend to do no light as the rooms where most of my tanks are with these lights get some ambient moonlight through windows, so I keep the remaining light off to let my fish rest. I think if you did something like 1-2% blue light that would be fine as well - though as a personal choice, I just tend to go the full off route.
I have two of them. They are incredible, as you say. One on an 84 gallon, I've set like you said. My other one is on a 150 tall. I have the whites cranked. Where would you run the red and blue? Thanks in advance - T
@@BentleyPascoe Thanks for the heads up, ill be sure to check it out. New to using dedicated plant light, so far have been using homemade lighting so any info we find is makeing the transition alot less frustrating.
Thank you so much for the fantastic review! It made up my mind about this purchase. I’m only concerned that one fixture may not be enough light spread for a 75 gallon fairly heavily planted tank with CO2. Your thoughts sir?
Hey Bentley, great video! I have a new 75G that I set up on 5 days ago. It is 19" deep and heavily planted, no Co2 yet, was going to wait a few months. I have the Fluval 3.0 and I have just been using the planted tank preset in pro mode until I watched your video and realized that may be too much light for such a newly planted tank. What settings would you recommend to start off with and do I just ramp up a little each week?
Auto mode, 1 hr sunrise and sunset, day light is 5 hours. Day set to: warm white 55, bright white 60, cool white 50, blue 2, pink/red 40. Up all but blue by 5% per week until bright white is 100%, blue goes no higher than 10%
Thanks. Lots of good points here. Spread is important for sure. When i moved from a 55 gallon to a 40 long i noticed that the ecoexotic e series i have casts a bright spot on the back glass several inches from the top and the stems are noticably leaning. Wasnt a problem in the taller tank but now it is starting to bother me a bit. Im considering moving that light to a 55 gal paludarium build and picking up a 3.0 for the 40long. I may try to replicate your settings in my light to deal with some algae issues i ran into from inconsistent co2. Replaced the seal between the tank and regulator like you suggested in the recent livestream you were on. Hopefully that fixes it.
Hopefully the CO2 issue resolves. As for the light, depending on plant load for a 40L, you might start at 30% on whites, then slowly dial up as the tank ages to the 50% range. Cheers!
Great review Bentley! I just set up mine today for my 40 breeder and used the light settings you suggest for a brand new 40B. One question though, from what I could tell from the screen shots is that your lights are on for a very long time...I want to do the hour and half ramp up and down, so my question is, how long do you have the lights on at peak light level to start a new tank? Then once it’s mature how long should I have the lights on?..I am running pressurized Co2 and have moderate to high light plants.
2 hours to start, as it settles, slowly expand to 4 hours of peak, slowly up toward 6 hours when fully established. My advice there, max would be 8 hours unless you're crazy like me.
Great informative video! Haven't found anything on the web which goes into so much good detail . I have a 63gallon low tech tank full of low to medium low light plants. I am following your advice and maximising my white light at 50% with the blue light at a maximum of 5%. I use flourish excel carbon and the tank is 55cm high. Do you think I could go up to 55% or should low light plants be a maximum of 50%.?
If you aren't seeing algae you can go higher, just dial it up slowly and monitor for algae. If you start seeing more algae than you'd expect for your current plant volume, dial back to where you did not have algae issues.
Great tips. I am setting up my first fluval plant light tomorrow. I do not use co2, but have a lot of plant. What do I have to keep in mind when setting up this light? I have a fluval roma 125 tank so not to deep.
The depth should affect you too much as the height is what matters for this light. Of the height is below 18 inches, just dial down the overall output of light so that max light is no more than 75%, otherwise just monitor your tank and make small adjustments if you get too much algae
Hi Bentley. Well I have this light on the way much thanks to your review and explanation. Well done! My 38 g has been low tech for years but I’m geeking out all at once and added CO2 and this light. A few questions please; - I hope to continue with my 2 “daylights” per day to match when I’m in the room ( approx 6-10am and 6-10:30pm). It was suggested that I leave the CO2 on during the siesta time. Any recommendations on how to do ramp in and out of this? - I disrupted my tank somewhat significantly and replaced and move plants. Still with my old light ( basic older Finnex LED), I’m having a bunch of melting and some algae. Should I back the light % way down still? Thanks and PS, congrats for the Seahawks!
The plants will come back, especially given CO2. You can dial the light back some until you see new growth in the plants to indicate they've recovered from the disruption. Beyon that, given the duration of your Siesta, I would actually turn your CO2 off from 10am to 5pm, let it come on an hour before light returns to get enough into the water, then have lights resume. Otherwise, you risk over-saturating the water and risking fish or even causing melt in plants due to excess carbon they can't use due to no light (this second part almost never happens, but it can). I hope that helps!
Bentley great channel and content. Just set up a 75 gallon and have a current satelite plus on it now? in your opinion how does it compare to the fluval 3.0.
The current has a lot more blue, which risks causing more algae. Personally I've never been a fan of current lighting, but I've seen plenty of good results with them.
Thanks! I copied your settings onto my 40Long. The tank is pretty established but have recently turned the co2 back on. I am replacing the ecoexotic eseries i had on it. Honestly i think the eseries looks nicer, but its field is too narrow. Wasnt a problem on the 55, but the shorter 40long has everything leaning towards the light. What is your setting for the 40L once matured? Are you turning up the intensity?
If I was to have a moon lit type setting following its usual 6 to 8 hours of normal would the only blue lightning be a cause for this algae as you mention ?
it can, if you keep the power down, it's usually OK. I've tested with the night light on around 5-10% and did not have issues, I just prefer no light to conserve a touch of energy.
Bentley Pascoe thanks for your reply. I have this new light arriving tomorrow. My tank is a fluval 125 litre with stock led lights. I planted “easy” style plants into fluval stratum soil four days ago now. Dosing with flourish excel and fertiliser. The lights have been on six hours per day. The purchase of this new light may not be necessary for what I am currently doing but perhaps thought I may want to try the injected co2 in the near future. Currently seeing small signs of brown algae on some plants. I was assuming this was down to being a new tank? Or Maybe too many nutrients. With this plant 3.0 I was going to have the power of the wights at 20 percent, red 10 and blue 1 percent. Do you think this would a good thing to try say for six hours per day for a few weeks? Kind regards
@@Larry1983_ Laurence, likely a very good starting point with your current intended settings. What you might try is start with 1.5 hour sunrise and sunset and only 4 hours of full light (7 total hours of light), then as the tank grows in and you see the brown/diatom algae go away (very common in new tanks, I have small amounts in my recent 40g Long), then you can just monitor. If you like the look and you're not seeing algae you're good. If you want a touch more light, slowly up like 5-10% a week and monitor for algae. If the plants keep looking good and growing well and you're not seeing much more than minor glass algae that you would see in regular maintenance anyway - you're set!
Hi, Bentley! I would like to ask you to share the best light settings for growth of basic plants in auto mode. I have 160 cm long 650l aquarium. It's tall, water column is about 62cm in height. There are basic plants like anubias, guppy grass, crypto, ceratopteris and a few red plants. I'd like my aquarium and fishes to look bright. I will use the lighting for 12-14 hours per day including sunrise and sunset. I have 2 lights. I am using co2. Thanks for commenting
Hi Bentley, Great videos on this light, I’ve just got mine and was wondering how would you set it for a newly planted tank that’s 30 inches deep and 4 ft long,as I’m worried about the light getting to the plants.
how wide is it front to back? This light has pretty good par, so I would use the auto mode, set yourself a 30min - 60min sunrise (depends on how fast you want it to ramp up) then run 100% on all 3 whites, 85% red, 10% blue. Monitor from there to make sure you're not seeing hair algae and plants are growing. Minor dust algae on the glass is fine, that's almost impossible to stop. Then have the same sunset (30-60min). Bringing it down to 0. I would not run blue light at night, just keep it off to let plants rest.
I was getting some black hair algae and am gonna try and use your advice I brought blue down to 3%. My tank is heavily planted but I noticed you have your lights on from 6am till 7 at night? I've been doing max 8 hours and I have co2 running, you have no problems at this length is that with the reduction of blue light?
Plan on getting a 3.0 I have a aquasky 2.0 on my 20ga long and it works great! Pretty much the same features as the 3.0 but less wattage. Which I don't need on a small tank.
Hi, Bentley! I would like to ask you to share this lightings best settings for growth of green algae on the rocks. I have 200cm long 750l aquarium. It’s tall, water column is about 62cm in height. There are no plants, only rocks (Dolomite). I have Tanganyikans Tropheus in there. Also I’d like my aquarium and fishes to look bright. I will use the lighting for 12-14 hours per day including sunrise and sunset. I’m thinking of getting 2pcs. Plant 3.0 59W. Thanks in advance! Your videos are great!
Hi good video. I’m setting up new plants tank. I m looking for a good light. I have iQuatics hanging kit. Will I be able to hang the light? You have nice tanks.
What you you recommend for intentionally growing algae for ottos/ bristle nose/ zebra plecos? I want algae for them to eat, but after having black beard algae a few years ago i do not want that again ever lol!
Bentley I was on the fence about getting a twin star 600 or fluval 3.0 for my acrylic 40 gallon 16 in high Aquarium. Being that my tank is shallow I think the TwinStar would be Overkill. So pretty much I think I'm going with this light .
Very likely you'd have to suspend the twinstar up higher to not really barrage that tank with excess light. Don't get me wrong, Twinstars are very nice, but I think they lack the features they should have for the claimed quality and price point. Cheers!
Any thoughts on settings for a 20" tall cube tank? I've struggled with algae but have just increased the number of plants pretty significantly. Fortunately it's just been brown algae and I've avoided black beard and staghorn. Would down around 20% for all the whites and reds with blue at 0% be too low?
@@BentleyPascoe Thanks! I've got it on a roughly 6hr duration from sunrise to sunset. 1.5hr sunrise with a 30 min sunset. I turned the blue off completely. Guess we'll see how it does. Hopefully the plants are able to grow with such limited light.
I own both the Fluval plant 3.0 and the Finnex planted plus v.2.0. If I could combine these 2, we would have the perfect LED aquarium light!! The Fluval, has the best remote in that you use your phone, an app and your blutooth connection and the individual light settings are easy to see and set. The Finnex v2.0 fixed all the issues with v1.0 and added the Color control mode but the remote still sucks. The Finnex light has a lot more light settings and times throughout the day since you can set every 3hrs. This allows me to make a unique sunrise, full sun, cloud coverage, sunset, moon light, and completely off which cannot be done with the Fluval. On the Fluval for night you either can have the blue on all night or completely off. The stand is higher up on the Finnex which I prefer for greater light angle on my fish tank. I had to raise my Fluval light up by other means to get sufficient light to the upper corners of my tank. The Finnex allows you to individually adjust white, blue, red, and green. However it does this in 10% increments and 10% blue for moon lighting was still too bright. I found that by holding down the button you can get less than 10% brightness but you have to be quick to release it before it hits zero. This is not stated in the manual anywhere BTW. The Fluval app lets you do 1% increments. IF Fluval were to update their app to allow for more settings throughout the day, they would be the clear winner. As it stands now, I am leaning towards Finnex if I had to get another LED today, however, an app update would be so easy to do and could come at anytime, whereas any shortcoming with the Finnex can not be "hot fixed" via a software update. The 48" Finnex also has a slightly higher PAR then the 48" Fluval, for those who need that extra umph in their CO2 setups.
Great videos, I'm curious your recommended settings, probably for how long the light should be on. I just purchase the fluval 3.0 planted and my tank is a 22 gallon long. It's 12 by 12 by 36 in Long. I have about 2 and 1/2 inches of substrate so it's fairly shallow. You seem to have a lot of personal experience with these lights let me know your thoughts. Appreciated in advance
I would start really low like 15%, then run for 6 hours as day. Add sunrise and set based on taste, and monitor. If you have no algae, add an hour. Do this until you get the duration you want (8-10 hours of day)
Hi!! Bentley, please an advise, I currently have an ATI Lamp with 6 x T5 giessemann tropic and aquaflora in my 54 gallon planted thank, should I change my lamp ? thanks in advance.
If you have success with a complex lighting mix, I would not swap. The old saying: if it ain't broke don't fix it. If that lighting has been trouble to balance and causing problems, then I would consider the switch.
I think you're going to like it. There's a reason any new light I buy now is a Fluval 3.0 - they're just that good after all my testing and work with them. Let me know how you like it and thanks for watching!
@@BentleyPascoe So far been playing with the settings, I think there is going to be a lot of trial and error. I am using your settings on your 40L as my starting point, it sounded good for my moderately planted 20H.
@@MidnightGeekSS try going about half of that, then slowly dial it up. As long as you aren't seeing algae accumulate quickly. If you've been good far, keep it steady, but be ready to lower in by 10-15% if you get a LOT of glass algae or early hair algae signs.
How do you do your lights now that the PRO update came. I looked at what the earth does, how it starts with blues in the morning then goes to reds in the evening. I've heard this allows plants to realize when photosynthesis is about to end.
Hey bentley, what would you recommend for settings on a 55 gallon tank with no co2? still trying to get it dialed in but battling hair algae along the way. High ph/kh/gh as well. Beginning to think that's half the problem. Thank you!
Do you or have you ever made you own light set up by buying different colour led and if so was it ok. I'm setting up a new much larger tank and want to grow lush green plants " health " it's 24 " heigh and I'm finding that ever thing costs a lot of money and I have time more than money so was hoping to find ways of saving on all I can . Could I us led strips in diferent colours and differnet volums , wouyld you know the colours and how many to use, many thanks Gary....
No, I've never built a light. Honestly not a super DIY person. My free time, especially the last two years, has been very minimal, so I find it usually better for me to save the time and pay more for a pre built product.
I have a 10 gal, 12" tall. Just 2 weeks into it being planted. I have a few java ferns, moss balls & some certos. Can you give me some suggestions on settings? I'm having a hard time finding any online.
The fluval is really powerful for a 10gal, but I would look into a maximum power setting of about 25% to start. Perhaps try auto mode at first, set up your timing, then for daylight try: Blue - 2%, Pink 10%, Warm White - 25%, Bright White 25%, Cool White 25%. Monitor for any extra algae over the first week, if none proceed for at least one more week. Some glass algae is OK, but you don't want to see lots of glass algae or any hair algae forming in plants. If you do see the algae, drop down to 20% on the whites, clean as much algae out by hand as you can and keep monitoring for another week, preferably two. If you get no algae at 25%, just keep that for a bit and watch how the plants grow, if they seem to be having issues, try 30% on whites.

Really valid criticism on that
Great video, thanks for all the info especially showing what your personal settings are.
Mine shows up tomorrow *happy dance*...thanks for the advice!
This is a crazy amount of information, I really appreciate it! I’m just setting up my 20 gallon high now, I got my light and c02 today and I’m about to order plants. I plan on heavily planting it so I’m going to follow your advice here.
Thanks for the tip on lowering the blue! I have four of these lights and I love them.
Your video sold me on this light well worth the money spent I'm in Australia so $339 AUD.
Petco just had the Fluval 3.0 light 20% off. 36" for $134.99! I'm loving the light!
Lucky
Thanks for your experienced advice. You may have saved me a lot of algae stress in my new aquarium.
Great review👍🏼. The best I have seen so far. I am planning on getting one of these lights in the future for my 29.
Great insights with good explanations, logic. Thank you!
Thank you SO much for your tip on lowering the blue! I have a cheap Nicrew on one tank and I battle BBA on there like nobody's business. I've adjusted my ferts and lighting, but I never thought to adjust the blue light. You've sold me on this light just for it's adjustability alone. THANK YOU!
Happy to help!
Hey Bentley, thanks for the tip on the blue light spectrum. Might dial mine down to see if it will reduce my minimal BBA. 🤘
Happy to help!
Great tips and easy to understand, thank you BP!
I have a video out in pro mode, so check that out!
Bentley Pascoe very sorry. 😂. I found it literally 5 seconds after posting that comment! 😂. Thanks again!
The coop linked your video, thanks it's very helpful for me right now, I'm setting up a ( my first in a decade) 75 gallon aquarium. Planning on a planted community.
Thank you SO MUCH! You need to work for Fluval !!!! We have had this light for about 3 months and had no idea about the BLUE intensity growing algae ~
This is not explained in the Fluval 3.0 directions!! No wonder we have been fighting a losing battle with algae!!
It would be pretty cool to work for Fluval I will admit - glad it helped and thanks for watching!
Awesome video, super informative!! I just purchased a 3.0 from Aquarium Co-op so this helps me alot
Enjoy, it's a REALLY awesome light.
Great video! Super helpful for us noobs who got into plants, bought a real light and don’t know what to do with it.
Your channel is really making me consider a planted tank again. I somehow manage to obliterate them quickly. It’s a good job I’m good at keeping koi as plants are definitely my nemesis.
Koi are pretty awesome, so I don't blame you!
Great video Bentley
Great video! Got the firmware upgrade on fluval nano light and needed some tips on what levels to run my lights at .
I have a video covering pro mode coming out tomorrow - so stay tuned!
Thanks for this informative video! Mine was everything at 100% on my 29G... And was trying to adjust my ferts to reduce the staghorn algae and the BBA. I did put the white in the 80%, and kept only 5% of blue spectrum. Thanks again!
Keep me updated, staghorn can be a real pain in the rear to get rid of, but I think the light is a very good starting point.
Thanks.... that light is on my list🐠🌿🐟😎
Nice video, I have most of the plants you have shown. I will be getting a fluval 3.0.
I have been looking for a good light.
Man this is a superb video many many thanks new sub 👍 about to purchase my first 3.0 for my 240L and was wondering if to get the 46W or 59W version ? Kind regards
Always get the light that covers the tank the best, if the tank is 48" long, do the 48" light. Don't worry about the power as much
@@BentleyPascoe thanks man the tank is 120cm the 46W is a 91cm min to max 122cm and the 59W min starts at 115W min to 145cm which would you recommend ? Again superb channel much praise love it 👍
@@andymfc 59W
Nice light. Does everything out of the box. As long as you can afford it.
lol, i was looking into this light because it is so cheap. thanks for the info. GO HAWKS!!!!!!!!!!
I think if you did something like 1-2% blue light that would be fine as well - though as a personal choice, I just tend to go the full off route.
this is very helpful. thank you!
I have two of them. They are incredible, as you say. One on an 84 gallon, I've set like you said. My other one is on a 150 tall. I have the whites cranked. Where would you run the red and blue? Thanks in advance - T
Red 85, blue 5-10
Great video, thanks for sharing your settings and thoughts.
Just a heads up, fluval just updated the app and I'm working on a video with all of the new features and some new settings for the pro mode
If you can raise it up a touch it will do fine, but if you want proper high light with co2 on a 75g, I would look at two lights
@@BentleyPascoe thank you! Choosing a lighting system is certainly a daunting task!
Up all but blue by 5% per week until bright white is 100%, blue goes no higher than 10%
Thanks! Does daylight time go up as well over time? Especially when I add Co2 eventually?
What settings for 20 long with low light plants and passive co2?
Shallow day sim
Bentley Pascoe thank you for the advice and I am definitely a little bit crazy and push things to the limit ha. Thanks again! I will give it a go
Really informative, its appreciated.
@@BentleyPascoe Great. Thanks a lot. Perhaps you could write and get paid for! an advisory booklet for Fluval and the Plant 3.0. Cheers again!
Nice review! Currently don’t need a new light but maybe in the future I might and any knowledge will help me decide then. Thanks:)
Great tips. I am setting up my first fluval plant light tomorrow. I do not use co2, but have a lot of plant. What do I have to keep in mind when setting up this light? I have a fluval roma 125 tank so not to deep.
The depth should affect you too much as the height is what matters for this light. Of the height is below 18 inches, just dial down the overall output of light so that max light is no more than 75%, otherwise just monitor your tank and make small adjustments if you get too much algae
have a few of these. latest is on my marine tank and doing well. corals are easy level but thriving
I'd be curious to see a review after a few months on how they work on the saltier side of life. Cheers Bob!
Hi Bentley. Well I have this light on the way much thanks to your review and explanation. Well done!
My 38 g has been low tech for years but I’m geeking out all at once and added CO2 and this light. A few questions please;
- I hope to continue with my 2 “daylights” per day to match when I’m in the room ( approx 6-10am and 6-10:30pm).
@@BentleyPascoe it does have lots of blue...You just may talk me into getting one for my new tank...ha ha
My 75L which replace my 40L, sits at 75% max to minimize algae growth in a shallower tank
Congratulations
Hi, Bentley! I would like to ask you to share the best light settings for growth of basic plants in auto mode. I have 160 cm long 650l aquarium. It's tall, water column is about 62cm in height. There are basic plants like anubias, guppy grass, crypto, ceratopteris and a few red plants. I'd like my aquarium and fishes to look bright. I will use the lighting for 12-14 hours per day including sunrise and sunset. I have 2 lights. I am using co2. Thanks for commenting
1.5 hour sunrise and sunset, then daylight: cool white 100, pure white 100, warm white 95, pink 80, blue 10.
@@BentleyPascoe Thanks for the Quick answer
Bentley Pascoe its 17 inches from front to back, thanks for the quick reply, will keep an eye out for alge.👍🏽
One day I will have to upgrade to this light.
Nope, but in part that's due to my water and plant density. Feel free to adjust to less overall time of light
Plan on getting a 3.0 I have a aquasky 2.0 on my 20ga long and it works great! Pretty much the same features as the 3.0 but less wattage. Which I don't need on a small tank.
Great info! Thanks!
Basically just maximum power of whites and maybe 35-50% blue and pink
@@BentleyPascoe, thanks for the quick answer!

Hi good video. I’m setting up new plants tank. I m looking for a good light. I have iQuatics hanging kit. Will I be able to hang the light?
You have nice tanks.
I'm not sure, I'm not familiar with that kit, fluval makes a hanging bracket accessory
yes thank you I have got it.
What you you recommend for intentionally growing algae for ottos/ bristle nose/ zebra plecos? I want algae for them to eat, but after having black beard algae a few years ago i do not want that again ever lol!
Just got high power on your whites for long periods - like 12-14 hours per day, that should give you a reasonable boost in surface algae.
Really nice video. I enjoyed it. 👍
thanks for the great info.
Will a Fluval 2.0 aquasky be good in a planted aquarium 20 gallon long tank with 3 inches of Fluval soil
Should be fine!
I love all my Fluval products! What is your poster of? It looks great but I don't know the series or source.
Final Fantasy XIV - Heavensward expansion wall scroll. It's one of the games I actively play (and used to create guides for).
Thanks Bentley ill give it a try.
Cheers!
@@BentleyPascoe thanks for your speedy response , my mind is made up I'm going with the 3.0. 😎
Very helpful
Any thoughts on settings for a 20" tall cube tank? I've struggled with algae but have just increased the number of plants pretty significantly. Fortunately it's just been brown algae and I've avoided black beard and staghorn. Would down around 20% for all the whites and reds with blue at 0% be too low?
Try 25 and then dial down to 20 if needed.
Hi, great video! Could you tell me how to set the spectrum colour percentages for plants in my orchidarium that are not in water? Thank you. :)
Pretty similar I would think, I'm not well versed in the light requirements for those. I would think higher light percents would help there
Great videos, I'm curious your recommended settings, probably for how long the light should be on.
Bentley Pascoe great!! Thanks !!
this has helped me, I have purchased it and am going to see!
@@BentleyPascoe thanks! I will let you know how it goes!
@@BentleyPascoe Got a bit of algae dropped my light and got it under control, when would you recommend raising the light?

How do you do your lights now that the PRO update came. I looked at what the earth does, how it starts with blues in the morning then goes to reds in the evening. I've heard this allows plants to realize when photosynthesis is about to end.
Check my video on pro mode, it has every setting I'm testing!
what settings would you make for 60heigh aquarium for monte carlo?
Auto mode - 1 hr sunrise/sunset, 6 -8 hours of daylight - 100% bright, cool and warm whites, 85% pink, 15% blue using CO2
Hey bentley, what would you recommend for settings on a 55 gallon tank with no co2? still trying to get it dialed in but battling hair algae along the way. High ph/kh/gh as well. Beginning to think that's half the problem. Thank you!
I would start around 25-30% on whites, say 20-25 pink and about 2% blue. Then monitor and see how the algae fairs
Great video great information. I have 3 low light planted tanks and have not made the jump to LED. I use t8 florescent 6500k.
Perfectly fine at low light, as you get to the medium or higher light demands though, the Fluval is easily on the best choice list.
@@BentleyPascoe thank you so much for the reply! I'm really pumped to see how this turns out!

40B are 17" tanks, which is where I did most of my testing.
Hey Bentley, do you know if the 59W model is enough for a 150 galon tank - 6ft long 2ft high and 2 wide?
You'd have significant dark areas with a 6ft tank, you're better off with two of the 36" models
@@BentleyPascoe Ok thanks!
Hi Bentley can you tell me what settings I need in auto mode for a co2 run tank. It’s a 16gal highly planted with carpet dwarf hair grass. I am currently running co2 2 hours before lights on and then off 1 hour before lights off
White 100, red 75, green 75, blue 20 is where I would start and monitor.
I’ll have to look into the light I’m running all satellites
Will you do a follow up video talking about 40 long once it’s gets fish?
I actually have a bunch of footage done and scheduled for editing - so you should see that relatively soon!
I got this light a couple days ago.ive tried several settings and my tank looks yellowish.i dont seem to get that clear crisp white look that i see other's have.its on a heavily planted 75g tank.does placement help? Maybe its to close to the front? Should i push it to the middle or back of the tank? Can i run just pure white and pink? Seems like the use of the other white settings make it more yellow.thanks
Try pushing it a little farther back and turn the warm white down a little bit, that should give you a little less yellow color
What’s up brotha ... I see you have a fluval flex tank ... so you have a vedio on that ????
Tank of the week has one.
Is the small one (22 W) enough for an 18 inch cube if it's placed 10 inch above the water? Or should I get 2 units?
I would likely look at two lights, but you could start with one, see how it looks and eyeball it
@@BentleyPascoe Thank you for answering!!!
