I love it! "Nothing worse then a trip to the truck". I make extra trips everyday back to the truck and have the same response! Thanks for sharing Ted. PS it could have been worse. A trip back to the shop... We have all been there.
Ted you are a really good guy people like you are what built and made America great. You care about your work and you care about the people you work for there's nothing better than that
If I had a dime for every trip I had to make to the Van for something I forgot, didn’t have with me, or like you a daggone wire nut or something like that lol, ide be rich. I really love the two story houses with the unit up in the attic, having to go up and down several flights of stairs then up or down a hill where I had to park the Van. Talk about exhausting.
Theres a problem with those valves with that 3 pin connector. Changed one today releasing gas after a call for heat a few times. I see them in York and Rheeem furnaces. Here in Ontario, Canada.
Good job,I like the way you take care of your customers, maybe add a drip leg to the gas pipe to keep debris from going into the gas valve will be a good idea! Thanks for the video you are a good man god bless you.
great job. as a retired gas man i am a bit surprised you didn`t bubble test the gas jets just to absolutely verify for yourself that the gas valve was in fact bypassing.
I use a little bucket to grab most of the tools I need for the particular repair and I kip a mix of wire caps screws I hate every time I have to go back to the van I get a lot of emergency calls at night during the winter time I always make it fun anyways
In Michigan a gas utility employee should have confirmed a bypassing gas control valve on the furnace if that was the case.A written form would be given to the customer to show to a contractor stating where the gas was leaking. The fuel line to the furnace would then be disconnected and capped for safety.I used to carry two different kinds of gas detectors which made confirming a bypassing gas valve easy.
You may have missed you calling as a cat burglar Theodore 😂😂. I think you were likely right about the manometer test port on the feed side being the leak source. Good call on change out. I’ve changed a couple of those two stage valves on ICP units in the last couple of years. Failed to open with no just cause. Good thing they are inexpensive , makes it easy to keep a couple in stock on the truck.👍👍🇨🇦
That my friend is good engineering, being able to turn that part. Nice to see you using your impact. Milwaukee makes a reversible bit that's both 1/4 and 5/16, it'll save you a walk.
Dr. Cook making late night house calls ! That gas valve leak seems to be very rare I'd think due to the high risk it has in controlling raw open gas flows from the source.
hey ted love your vids as a trane tech my self they havve been super helpful just a tip for ya im sure your already aware but on those units with the isd or interstage delays you can change the dip switches for the timer on that unit you can set it to 0 seconds on s7 dip switch block and it will fire up in first stage burn till the blower comes on then jump right away to the second stage so you dont have to sit and wait the ten mins its a good tip for your maintence guys so they can save some time when working on equipment and they can change it back to the ten mins when they are done you could have done that on this call too just to make sure the second stage will fire but i get it was late and you were already doing them a favor as someone who works for a 24hr company trust me ik how crap those 1am calls are T.T
Does the unit need to be powered down then back on to register the setting changes? Just wondering because my 19yr old xl split system requires that if a blower speed dip switch setting is changed. Ted did mention this unit is about 5yrs old & things have changed.
@@waltersmith7950 no not fully powered down but it does need to be in an idle state for the changes to register so what I normally do is just undo w1 let it swap back to idle and then make my dip switch or on board changes depending on the model and then just plug w1 back in this way your not wasting time going back and forth to the thermostat. Hope it helps
@@jeffreyjohn2037 you'd be surprised alot of the newer units have new tech you just have to learn from scratch so his experience is irrelevant when the tech is brand new and I was just trying to be helpful. No need to be a dick
Drip legs are a thing of the past. Gas isn't dirty. Only time I install a drip leg is where specified by utilities company on their service before meters and on a boiler with a Dungs gas valve. The drip leg serves as a volume chamber for their suction.
I had 3 gas valves I changed out last heating season that were leaking through the valve. Just grab the ole bick and check at the orfices. Mind you it would close completely sometimes, so you have to run a few cycles to find it sometimes. These were on Carrier MN7's that were 2-3yrs old
We are still turning ac on in north part of Louisiana ( monroe) as of today October 25th 2022, it suppose to get cooler this weekend in morning,45° ( we don't like cold weather)
These valves are supposed to be redundant, with two seats inside, just for this reason. I would have verified that gas was leaking by testing at the orifices. I can’t understand why the gas company, who said the valve was leaking, left the gas on. Should have been capped off and tagged. Would be interesting to open that one up to see where they are failing. Sometimes the meter regulator creeps above the maximum pressure and damages the valve.
I like to prove that parts are bad. That leak could have been from anywhere. I wouldn’t rely on a gas company man’s opinion, that didn’t cap the gas line off, and tag it.
if you were told that the gas valve was leakying by. why not test the manifold pressure and ensure the gas valve was the issue.... no hate just a note to everyone else watching this video...
Can someone help this cold weather person with a couple of questions? Is it common in the south to install gas furnaces outside? I never saw that. And in my part of the world, we don't need heat when the crickets are still chirping. Was it really that cold?
Ted, there are LED flashlight bulbs available for your incandescent light, or on eBay, punch this in for multi purpose light to fit a Milwaukee battery. I'll not include the link. Cordless LED Work Light for Milwaukee 18v M18 Li-ion Battery 2000LM Spotlight.
I think all the gas valves I’ve seen are Honeywell brand and look the same. I’m sure you could keep a spare for those late night calls. My parts actually has a cell phone number for a parts guy they’ll come up at nighttime for parts for an extra $80.
Any technician that’s willing to make a repair to not ruin church day, is a blessed man!
The old adage is that night air has no lift. Ergo, no ‘helicopters’. Your work ethic is impeccable. That is a trait others should strive to attain.
You're a good man, Ted keeping the lady warm thru the night. Thxs for the vids!
Yes agree

Thankful

You have a big heart to come at this time for your friend 80s years old Mother
Ol' Ted left his dope in the van.

The heros we need! Thank you for your hardworking and knowledge
This man has got to learn the art of hold back when tightening and loosening piping.

a drip leg is just an upside down t yea? Maybe thats why it quit? thanks for the tip!
Good work as always! I know your buddy is very appreciative of you handling that after hours.
I have never seen a unit that was located outside. Fascinating.
I used Blue Monster pipe dope... it works on everything... LPG,NG, gasoline, hydraulic etc...its awesome stuff
great job. as a retired gas man i am a bit surprised you didn`t bubble test the gas jets just to absolutely verify for yourself that the gas valve was in fact bypassing.

Need to find out which of your crew did the install and rip em a new one about the union and the indoor flex being used.
Left the power on the entire repair. Smart.

That was nice of you to help her out.
It’s always satisfying to have a late night victory

Good little service call ... Thx for posting ...
Well done Ted, this lady would have appreciated your responce due to the late call out. Greetings from Australia 👍
Ted, you can do more with 1 hand than most texts I know can do with 2 ! Keep up the good work. Love your videos !
Thank you for watching…. I really appreciate the support !!

Always a great job man. I enjoy watching your videos.. Your #1 fan from Oklahoma.
Thanks a lot !! I really appreciate the support !
Good job on using pipe dope on installing the valve on manifold.
i treat all late night service calls as if a family member called for help. there are a lot of elderly people that have no friends or family.
Gas tite or ( CSST) is allowed to be outdoors according to national gas code. I've seen it used over and over. More so with Flash shield CSST....
U R a good man-----thank you!!
Wonder if the lack of a drip leg caused the valve to fail
Its a horizontal gas delivery no drip leg needed :-)
Drip legs are a thing of the past. Gas isn't dirty.
Only time I install a drip leg is where specified by utilities company on their service before meters and on a boiler with a Dungs gas valve. The drip leg serves as a volume chamber for their suction.
I put a drip leg in anyway but you are right
Had two of those last year both after hours calls

oof, grab the bick???! You sir are brave! haha
New sub here ... Nice job , she's nice and warm now
As always…, Good job!! 👍
103 thumbs uP Your a good man to get out there so late.
I've seen alot of those newer model gas valves leak I guess like everything else they use cheap parts so it causes problems
Older folks take priority with me to . Thanks again

I had one of those gas valve gas leak through to the burner call about a month ago
A man that goes to church with his wife is a real good man in my book.
We should all keep tabs on the elderly!!
Yeehaw! bring on the heater rush!
Gods smiling on you
Had no drip leg , hot water gas valve didn't shut off all the way ,added drip leg working 5 years later still going today.
actually could have made an excellent Halloween scary movie..
“We keep a lot of parts in stock”. People don’t realize how hard it is to get parts anymore.
i was going to say great effort, but than you said the nordyne gas valve lasted 25 years and the trane 5.
Other than the military, you'll find a few good men as in Ted, the hippies of the 70s.
You're a good man, Ted. At least the weather was dry.
yea that would have been miserable in the rain or snow
I thought about getting the supco magnetic umbrella but I didnt think about using it to block snow haha
I think I would of checked the resistance of that GV, just to see. I don’t blame dude for not testing GV while gas hooked up!
Thank you for sharing!

All of my pocket wire nuts, spade etc end up on my dresser at home.
How much did you charge for going out in the middle of the night??
I’m not a fan of changing parts when you can’t prove it’s bad.
Didn’t see where the leak was
I like to prove that parts are bad. That leak could have been from anywhere. I wouldn’t rely on a gas company man’s opinion, that didn’t cap the gas line off, and tag it.
The gas valve was the only thing there on the pressure side.
if you were told that the gas valve was leakying by. why not test the manifold pressure and ensure the gas valve was the issue.... no hate just a note to everyone else watching this video...
A dull knife and a trip 2 the truck lol.
The best heat pump I ever had was a 5 ton Nordyne. Al lightning strike killed it after many years or trouble free service.
😂 went down in a battle of fury

So......... how much was that call ? how much is the new valve ? so the valve was leaking Gas and had to be replaced ?
This is what makes you , Take care of elders and friends.
Did you change burner? My heat pump work, but no hot air. If you know what need to replace. Thanks.

Do you not carry a tool bag because your the boss? Love the videos, great work
I love the fact that he grabs like two items. I need to start doing this.
Time to switch to Wago wire connectors Ted 👍👍
Are outside flexible gas lines code where you are?
People stop waiting till it's cold and test your appliances before u need them.
No sediment trap downstream of the supply valve???
ted where do you provide service? what state? thank you!
How was the gas smell going inside the home?
I normally take the manifold off if it doesn’t spin all the way
how fun working in the dark.
Good job Ted.
Your friend contractor came and put his gas detector on it and it was going off. I think you can figured out who left the gas back on. Just saying.
I was hoping that you would pull out a $50 bill and clean that flame sensor .
What happens if you're smoking a cigarette and you walk up to there
You Put your crescent wrench the wrong way
Waaaay to go Ted.
Ted. How many service techs do you have on call
Like the way you approach your work. Go slow.....go or no go instead of ham-fisting it and ended up doing more damage than initially.
Great video!! Do you keep a universal valve that fits the most common units?if so which one?
I think all the gas valves I’ve seen are Honeywell brand and look the same. I’m sure you could keep a spare for those late night calls. My parts actually has a cell phone number for a parts guy they’ll come up at nighttime for parts for an extra $80.

Type of calls that make this trade worth it .
Good job 👍
El cheapo lasted 20 years?
Nice call Ted
Hey sir I'm getting HBAC certified in June as I am in school learning all I can any advice
