    Well done. Great points very well presented. Seems like a great way to get the younger kiddos off to a good start with games. Thanks Tom.

    Yay, you mentioned Calgary! Where I live. I feel special. Ha ha.

    The guy on the box cover is smiling and I don't believe he's intended to be a menacing figure so much as a guardian of the kids.

    My kid just turned 3 and he gets it, I would say 4-8 years of age is the target. Great review tom you are a giant

    To get a East to West ticket, do both the stations need to be on my tickets? Or, can I just run a route from, East to West to receive it?

    Thanks for the explanation! I think this would be great for our son.

    When do you draw new train cards? As soon as you use them or wait another turn to draw two and wait another turn to claim a route?

    I program computer game AI and I'm actually using this version to practice the programming for this series of games!

    Thinking for this version, they should have made the Route Colors distinct from Train colors.

    • @codeman99-dev
      @codeman99-dev 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That is ten distinct colors (6 train cards/routes + 4 players). Looks like they tried even harder to be color-blind friendly. Good chance it is hard to get 10 vastly different colors.

    Looks great for my son. He really enjoyed My First Stoneage as well. Do you know if it will be available internationally?

    I want this for my kids so bad but the Target in my city doesn't even carry board games. I wonder if it's something I can order in... if it's been released in Canada.

    under $30 if you are living in the US, over $80 if you live elsewhere in the world ... I can't wait they lift that exclusivity deal.

    Ok....not about the review itself, but did you use a different camera, or settings for this video? It looks noticeably different. Not bad, just different.

    How to proceed when you draw a card that you already completed? Do I immediately say something and get another one? Do I wait for my next turn, show it get another and play? Wait my next turn, play and THEN I show my completed path?

    I saw this at GenCon last week. Seems like something that you could do with some house rules and a regular TTR game. I just wonder if it's going to get the $30 worth of play out of it, or if the kids would play it a few times and then be ready for regular TTR after a few plays.

    • @codeman99-dev
      @codeman99-dev 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      They removed two train card colors. The tickets being mostly the same value is much different. The large icons allow for faster and easier identification of cities. There are no gray / colorless routes.
      It's great if you think you can teach kids to play the regular version, but there are definitely enough changes here to justify a different game. Especially if you consider a larger gatherings. If a kid feels they can teach a game, they can pull it out to play with friends or family who aren't normally board gamers.

    I used to play tons of games with my uncle when I was really young (like 6 or 7) and I always thought that a lot younger kids could play most games until I played cosmic encounters with my 8 year old cousin and I realised how annoying I must have been playing games at 6. Now I realize the value of kids games because It is very frustrating to explain the rules every turn to a kid.

    Tom, what do you think about exclusivity?

    • @Justagamerhere1
      @Justagamerhere1 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      is it exclusive or a timed exclusive?

    • @zandert33
      @zandert33 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Alan Moon has gone on record as saying if they didn't do this as a Target exclusive that it would have never been released, so who cares what anybody thinks? It's either this or nothing.

    • @Justagamerhere1
      @Justagamerhere1 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +zandert33 interesting. I got an email from Cards against humanity saying Target threatened to carry clones if they didn't sell to them. Hope they didn't do the same with others.

    • @PeterSchott
      @PeterSchott 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think it's rumored to be a timed exclusive. By the time my youngest is really old enough to play this, should be able to find it at my FLGS instead of only at Target. (Really hoping that's the case - not a big fan of exclusive deals no matter who holds the rights.)

    • @Justagamerhere1
      @Justagamerhere1 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Peter Schott yeah, I wouldn't see why you would risk a single store exclusive. unless you are exploding kitten :-)

    Not only there is a lot going on in original TTR but there is so many cities to remember w/ no symbols and the trains aren't really good for those that can't grasp smaller objects. Only other 'good' kids game I know of, IMHO, is My Happy Farm, a good introduction to the Economic Sniping genre. Though, apparently one of those the design groups that tend to make Walmart shelf fillers of kids games also made Wonky :P

      The 10th Anniversary Edition helps on the train piece size, but then you wave good-bye to the expansion boards that don't fit them... :/

    So basically its like monopoly junior where it simplifies some of the concepts but unlike monopoly junior it doesn't dumb it down so much to the point where its barely a game.

    Lets milk this franchise till the end of time. Also there is very little strategy in TTR, draw cards, place trains. Woo, huge strategy there. It is also good to dumb things down for kids, heaven forbid we try and teach them something beyond their ability, ohh hang on isn't that how we learn normally?

    • @Haldurson
      @Haldurson 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Certainly, you could play the game in a non-strategic way, but you'll miss an awful lot of opportunities by doing that. There are locations on the board, especially when playing with more players, that are riskier than others to have a route from -- choke points, that is. Those can be key and should be prioritized, or you risk being locked out. Or you can play offensively and lock up those choke points early simply to spite other players who actually need them. and that's just one example. Granted this is not chess level strategy, but there is strategy.

    • @jward1465
      @jward1465 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I love playing TTR with people who say that it has no strategy. I enjoy the colors their faces turn when I beat them over and over again no matter what they try or how they play. I even got kicked out of a game group for winning $100 off a guy who said I couldn't beat him four games in a row (it was his game group BTW and he never did pay up).

    Ticket to Ride EU is really unballanced in scoring and it's mostly luck play unless you play 4-5 players...
    Whoever gets easier track with less tunels you will simply win, Ticket Draw is a HUGE part of the game..
    Yes there is a little bit of strategy but it's most luck of the draw of the tickets.. (THERE SHOULD BE DIFFERENT SCORING FOR 2-3-4+ players)..

    • @codeman99-dev
      @codeman99-dev 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not sure why this comment is on TTR First Journey, but I'll bite anyway.
      Go get Europa 1912. That expansion doubles the number routes on the board. Greatly increases the playable areas as well. You play with 1912 only tickets. You can play with the original tickets. You can play with a mix of tickets mark as "Big Cities" tickets. You can play with all the tickets. You can remove long routes.

      Ok. I see the "set up". It's in the "game contents" which I flew over trying to get to the heart of the instructions. But thank god for TH-cam!!!
