A criminally underrated band. They should have been way more popular than they were. This is one the best songs of the 80’s.
70s! Early 70s
This song came out in 1982,but the band started in 1961 with George Kooymans the lead guitarist and Rinus Gerritsen the bass player.Other guys played in the band, until Barry Hay the other guitar player/lead vocalist joined in '68,and then Cesar Luiderwijk the drummer joined in '70.That line up has been together until 2021when they stopped performing due to George being diagnosed with ALS.A vry good band to see live.
Everyone says everything is criminally underrated. LOL
"The gun is still warm....when the bullet hits the bone." When the bullet hits the bone you flee to Mexico.
Always love the little nuggets of improv jam in a live show. Cheers....
They were freaking amazing when I saw them with King Crimson many years ago. George Kooymans is beyond underrated on lead guitar. Try their live Vanilla Queen from their 1983 show on Rockpalast for more evidence. They are the real deal my dear, tremendous band. The whole Moontan album is dope. Enjoy! 🎵🎸🎤🎹🎶
I can only agree with you. Also their 1977 live album is one of the best live rock records of all time!!!
Have fun with all kind of good music!
I saw them in '75 before this song came out,but the Vanilla Queen is one of my favorites, and they did play that when I saw them. This girl would probably not like any of their live versions if she thinks this was too long, but their live versions are what makes them awesome.
In my humble opinion, the bass player and drummer are one of the best rhythm sections around. They give the songs a unique groove.
Get that girl a drum!
Rebeka, besides being incredibly attractive, you're one of the few reaction hosts that actually get the vibes of the music you put up. And not only that but you have a fine sense of what's great in music. Thank you.
As always beautiful reaction Gorgeous Rebeka. Grazie
3:22 still one of my favorite bass guitar lines.
Gosh I miss the 80's, sometimes. This was a very long version , much longer than the radio version; however this song has always been on of my favorites.... was one of my faves in High School... I am old.... damn...
Hello Miss Rebeka !!!! I Hope you had A Good weekend as we here in the USA head into our independence Day Celebration today !!!! The Like Button 🔘 has been Illuminated 😁👍👍😎🌞
Great old 80 ' s tune if you like this one you might Also like
Red Riders ( Lunatic Fringe ) 😀🎵🎶🎸🎹🤗
Great song, along with a great group. Been listening to them forever.
Congratulations for this video, in fact I've probably never seen this before: really rock, dirty, but the band is totally together, really a fantastic music journey, just awesome. I wouldn't change anything about the song, it just fitted into this time of the cold war, of military rearmament. The rock voice and the lyrics in particular express this tension in the intro!
Vanilla Queen, She Flies On Strange Wings and the Byrds cover Eight Miles High are also fantastic live, these prog transitions/musical bridges in the songs so it becomes a listening experience. Thanks!!!
You are spot on.
Yep ....a very overlooked band
Proud to say they're from my home town 😎
I love that you reviewed the live version!!!! ❤
Best wishes to George Kooimans(Gitar and Vocals) The band had to quit because he suffers from ALS
Prayers for George.
Another underrated band with a tremendous sound.
Great choice, Becks!!!
Never heard this one B4, however they cooked it pretty good. The only song I know is "Radar Love", I think it was their biggest hit.
They had a lot of hits, just not in the US
Love it! Thanks for sharing Rebeka. 🥰
Check out “Vanilla Queen,” “She Flies on Strange Wings,” “Candy’s Going Bad,” “Ce Soir,” and their live cover of the Byrds’ “Eight Miles High.”
Ang add another 45 miles to go and going to the run
proud to be dutch my country lads you like it to i see 👍great stuff Rebeka !!!
Roxanne is my favorite Golden Earring song, its so raw, so punk rock, great song
Back in the days the original music video of the song got banned from american television.
As a Dutch saw many concerts since 1980 and still one of my best bands I know till now. And you are too pretty, so I kept my eyes on the band, if you don't mind.
Nice song choice to react Rebeka
you need to remember this is live - you should have gone to the album/video version there is a story - the video tells the story - this was one of the first of the MTV video hits
They were way better then people give them credit
Hi Recis, thznks for this reaction to our ( Dutch) pride of rock music. Golden earring are real LEGENDS
Hi! This is a very underrated band, which unfortunately recently stopped because guitarist/singer/founder George Kooymans has the muscular disease ALS. I recommend you to watch more Golden Earring live like Radar Love live 2015-12-12 Amsterdam. Also Golden Earring live in 1977 with Eelco Gelling - Mad love's comin'. They have released dozens of albums.
Compliment to you for how enthusiastically you respond to fantastic music. I love your responses. Thank you so much 😘
when the bullett hits the bone
Great song! Great Band! You should listen to Vanilla Queen.
While they may have had other hits this and "Radar Love" played on the radio and MTV all the time back in the day.
Herman brood “saterday night. Also a great musician from the Netherlands
This song was written about Jason Bourne, loon it up
I love the guitar solo on the extended recorded version of this great song. Sorry I like the recorded version better.
Saw them 1974 when the opened for Santana. Great concert.
Nice live performance!
Love this song 👍
This band was iopener for Led Zeppelin when they where first timers to visit usa.. Golden Earring toured it 4 times already wwhen they opened shows for Led Zeppelin.. opened for Santana aswell..had Aerosmith as openers to their shows, KISS, ZZ-Top, Ted Nugent, who later returned the favour and had Golden Earring open for him
we would love to recommend:
Donna Summer - Hot stuff
Irene Cara - "What A Feeling" (1983)
Laura Branigan - "Self Control"
CREEDENCE CLEARWATER REVIVAL - SUSIE Q (extended version)
Is that a Danelectro Double Neck Bass? His bass sound is thumpin'! 'She Flies on Strange Wings' video of the band on the roof of an apartment building. Easily one of their best songs, with some great bass too!
He builded it by himself, where he used a Danelectro and a Fender body. Before this one he played on a Danelectro untill it was stolen in 1977. Than he started to built this doubleneck, wich was followed by another one but that one has not been used to often.
His father build his first bassguitar wich he still uses every now and then.
His dad build it for him
You are right, I generally do not like the live version of this song for the reason you mention. They seem to be overly fond of the bass line, it's a great bass line for sure, but we don't need two minutes of it with some atmospheric sounds in the background. Do yourself a favor and listen to the album version of this song, I think it is exactly what you would want!
Hello Rebeka you look nice
Just being honest here, and it's only my opinion, but today I definitely tuned in more to see you than for Golden Earring. Average band with average musicians who wrote a few radio hits. Again, just my opinion, I'm sure they have their die-hard fans, but as a musician, I'm not one of them.
Live tend to be improv, the official music video is a visual story about a hitman, give it a view, it's shorter too!
This song is much better than their big hit Radar Love. This song is a banger!
Wish they'd of mic'd up those drums better or the mixing board guy had brought up the gain a bit cause those percussive gun shots are part of what I've always loved so much about this song. A small thing, which is why I'd a loved for them to solve it. Of course, 85, I shouldn't expect too much.
I agree with a lot wat you said those two minetsi thought he lost his place . Radar love was better song. Not one of my favourite bands I wouldn't put them on my playlist. Thanks Rebecca you have a wonderful day.
Pretty good dance song at clubs and parties back in the day. Recommend Aerosmith - Back In The Saddle. Rock On!!
This Link is of a Live Performance in 2019... I'm positive it will change your mind about this Song. Live Performances can be really Tricky. Studio music is often the Best to start out with. An exception... David Bowie - Heroes, Live Performance. OMG!
You should do, nazareth… this flight tonight…
Thank you Rebeka, I agree with your reaction. This band was okay, but not great by any means.
Great Song by Chris Rea - Fool if you think it's over.
There are many versions, but you the 4 : 45 studio version posted by Setezhomes is the best by a lot
Also try "Memory Motel" (Remastered) by The Rolling Stones. Great ballad. So underrated.
Yes, I wish she would play studio versions more.
It’s not too long the studio version sound better. Remember, these songs were created for radio.
Agreed. When a band picks up actual live instruments (who’s idea was that?) begins jamming, and jams well, then I just want it to keep going!
This live performance better than studio.
Here's my rant. Since mass shootings have become endemic, I have become sensitive to gun references in songs. Neil Young and Hendrix come to mind. Still love the music, tho'.
Hey Rebeka! This live version seemed to go on forever which became boring. I definitely prefer the studio version! Happy 4th of July!🎉🎉🎉💣💣💣💥💥💥🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲😎
I could tell by your facial expressions and body language that there was something "off" in your reaction. Those qualities are what set your videos apart from other content creators. Once I read your explanation, it all made sense. I agree that this concert version of twilight zone is lacking the quality of the studio cut. I luv your channel and keep doing what you're doing.
The year I graduated! 😁😎
Your beautiful stop with the devil horns hand signal
I think the studio version would be better for you. And then you will not be able to quit listening to it
they were still doing concerts until just a short time ago ..they were even better than this
The lead-in to the guitar solo was way too long and repetitive. They could have shortened that section. But adding on to a song is not that uncommon for live performances. It's meant to keep the audience engaged and give them more and if it's done right, it works.
The original studio version was much, MUCH better. With a few exceptions I think it's always better to listen to the original first. Also, the mixing and sound quality of this video is horrible. I don't think it's fair to complain about the song when you don't actually listen to it the way it was originally recorded!
The shorter studio album version is better by far. They tried to milk it in this live performance and this song didn't produce.
The studio version is much better
Yes, I wish she would play more studio versions.
Rebeka, the long instrumental part is what makes this song great. Sorry to disagree with you but you kinda had to grow up in this time to understand how novel this was for it's time.
