- Behold The Rising Phoenix! Sonny returns to Double Dragon! This guy is truly wild, with the ability to juggle multiple enemies at once, and plenty of moves for crowd control. He is very aloof and light on his feet. Although my run isn't as perfect as I wanted it to be, Its still very exciting to watch from beginning to end. From my crazy antics on Mission 3 to all the great combos I work in between, I'm pretty satisfied with this demo run. I hope you guys enjoy!

Fantastic legs technique, his Van Damme's Pop 360 Wheel Kick looks incredible. How you do that sickass combos guys, I don't understand!!
lol! Yeah, I actually made the thumbnail before I made the recording. But that kick ended up being the star of the show! hahaha! As for the combos well, Let me tell you this, I've been playing this game (UDD, LOTDD and its oldest demos) since 2014, So If it seems like I'm a natural at this game, it only comes with being so familiar with the mechanics. I'll say what I have said before, it takes practice practice practice. :)

Wow, TH-cam randomly recommended this video to me and I am blown away by this footage. I fondly remember playing Super Double Dragon on the SNES as a kid and only throwing two attacks because it was all I could do: the spinning backfist and the straight punch. Seeing this level of gameplay, artwork and sound in a beat 'em up is amazing.
With this character the "Bruceploitation" is more than evident. I loved seeing the super attack The finishing of crush with foot on the ground, seen in the Snes game "DRAGON THE BRUCE LEE STORY".
When Sonny is defeated, he congratulates the opponent, how honorable!
Haha your right! A lot of the voice effects as well as some of the moves, come from the Bruce Lee SNES game.
Oh and the death animation was actually based off Yuen Biao when he fought Benny the Jet in Dragons Forever.😎

Now this is awesome Taekwondo action going on here. I was suspecting you wasn't bring out Sonny's true potential, but you did. This is definitely a great birthday present for me to enjoy, even though it was on the 1st of May and not the 5th😂. Awesome gameplay, "NK". 👍👍
Thanks man. It was quite a challenge because of Sonny's lack of polish at the moment. hahaha. I have to always dodge knives, my head scissor throw doesn't hit other enemies, and some of my combos kill the enemies prematurely. Combined with my obsession to make perfect gameplay videos I was surprised this only took me 6 hours of tries. Its still not as perfectly choreographed the way I wanted it to be but, hey its just a demo run, I felt i was starting to get on a roll after that last Williams in the beginning of the airport, so I kept on.

There are men who make art by using their hands to paint, there are men who make art by playing musical instruments, then there are men like niko who make art by pushing video game skill to its very limits, this is a elegantly and artistic display of skills.
Thank you so much. I couldn't have said it better. Its the whole point of my channel. It takes about 2 days (or more) to make one of these videos. The hardest part is you guessed it, Level 1. It gets repeated hundreds of times to get the perfect run, and then, its not done, but only the beginning. I have to shake off the fatigue and jitters and focus on making another 40 mins of excellent gameplay. At that point, I rely on the muscle memory I've built in the training room to pull off long complex combos when I see the opportunity, I look for ways to make the environment more entertaining. (like throwing enemies out of an elevator, down the stairs, onto tables chairs etc.) Weapons and super combos are actually where I can take a break from focusing on custom cancel combos, which is the most difficult.
I've been watching a lot of SOR4 combo videos lately and have seen maybe one or two people that actually care about the combos and the videos they make. Everyone else are either making amateur vids that don't really qualify as combo videos and the others are straight up lying in their title/thumbnail about what your about to see. Even though the community around this game is super small at the moment, I take pride in being the closest thing to a master player.

The sound effects are realistic and the gameplay is pretty impressive. I think Bruce Lee saw this he would be proud of you!

Heh heh Thanks! Its not as easy as it looks. The first mission was practically choreographed. All the enemies in this game are pretty tough. You will get your butt kicked on your first few playthoughs. And its gonna take you a long time to get on my level lol!

I just wish it had it's own sound effect instead of taking from other fighting games, I mean the hit sounds are cool but I would like for the voice sounds to be more original and not be from other games which I said before. Aside from that good shit.
Double Dragon Gaiden might be out, but I'm sticking with this gem.
Thats good to hear. IMO Double Dragon Gaiden (not the original openbor one from ten years ago) Isn't even a Double Dragon game. Its Streets of Red with a "Double Dragon" coat of paint on it. As soon as you start adding in game mechanics that are not expressive of a true Double Dragon experience, you've lost the plot immediately. Take a look at Streets of Red and you will see its the same game just using the DD IP assets. Its shameful. This entry will the continue the curse of "lack of continuity" for the franchise.
Rogue-lite elements they say. What a bunch of bullshit. They don't care about or respect the original vision in its slightest. I mean look at it. Enemy health bars, damage numbers popping up on screen after every hit, food items, shop systems, rpg elements, nuts, bolts and shit all over the floor. I mean, what the fuck am I playing!? Ratchet and Clank!? The enemies are designed like a horde of zombies that telegraph their attacks for 10 frames. I mean Jesus Christ. This game makes DDNeon look more legit.
Sorry for the rant, but this has been building up inside me since I saw the trailer. It would be a nice beat em up game on its own. The only problem is that its got "Double Dragon" on the title and some not something else. Like Streets of Red 2 or whatever.
Neon, I can agree with. Gaiden, is just Double Dragon riding on Streets of Rage's coattails. To think Billy and Jimmy live in a city where Cody Travers is mayor...that game is a poor excuse of a beat'em up that even Metro City's residents want their money back.
@@nklopez56 you have every right to rant. Gaiden sucks. Now, if it were something like Super Double Dragon but with your moveset and your sprites, that is a game I am more willing to throw my money at. Or an idea would be if Billy and Jimmy learned martial arts outside their dojo, say Krav or Kalaripayatu...and extra characters like Sonny, Chin or Jeff made the roster.
@@joachimmartinlopena538 I would say its riding off the TMNT Shredders revenge game more so with its cutsie-wootsite art style. But for real look up Streets of Red. The similarities between that game and DDGaiden are damn near one for one. Thats whats the most offensive to me about this game.

Lol! Yeah I know hahaha! Its just Sonny and his playstyle. He is the fastest character in the game. A little difficult to learn, but once his legs become your own, The bad guys don't stand a chance.
@@nklopez56 this game looks too easy for me. I'm a combo freak. I be doin infinities in castle crashers. I def need to touch this game. Been watchin every suggested video I see as if I have no choice of my own. Need to research this Sonny guy too. Seen him in a few obscure DD games.

From the Last podcast he said he was shooting for June or July, but I personally feel it may take quite a bit longer. We will just have to wait and see. The game is being developed by mostly one person.

@@cksnah252 thank you I appreciate it. It takes a lot of tries to make a video that I like to make. And yeah, Mauricio was a former fgc player. So it deeply deeply influences how he creates characters. As far as the Ki combos go I'm not sure if you're having trouble or don't know how to do them but if you sub to his channel and take a look around you'll find some move list videos there.

Yep. B.Lee from the Dragon game, and Kim Kapwhan from FFury 2. Might be some others but its mostly these two dudes. In Legend of the Double Dragon, Jimmy is straight up Bruce Lee in all his voice effects!😁
Yall hed to make the characters from DD3 like the Ninja. I just seen sonny do his kick. All the Sprite would need is a sword and his own running animation which is super simple if u keep it OG

@@jkingjay9545 I have been following this project since 2014. Me and Mauricio are reasonably close. Again I'm not a developer or anything, but I am the biggest fanatic for this game. Once it comes out and a few more months go by, you will see what I mean. ;)
@@nklopez56 I'll take your word for it. I still have the original rom. I have yet to try these hyper combo versions. The original one was fun for me. I always do a no death run. Or maybe a mo continue run. Not sure but trust I can see how ur a fanatic. Game has me to.

Thank you and I know you're excited but please be patient. Remember this project is being developed by a single person for free. He has been working on it for coming close to 15 years now. He has his own life, with plenty of problems in it that can slow him down sometimes.
He has promised us to release this year, but prepare yourself for another couple of months. I know the developer and I know how these things go. It will happen when it happens.

Sonny moves a lot better than Jimmy.
Jeff and Sonny are bonus characters. They have certain advantages that the dragons don't. But they have disadvantages too. Even though a lot of these characters have the same "body", they all act very different.
So would Sonny specialize in Taekwondo more? The kicks seem to be the proof.
