Hilary Swank in Boys Don't Cry reminds me of Charlize Theron in Monster. To call it a "performance" doesn't even sound right as Swank, like Theron, truly inhabits her character.

I watched her acceptance for Oscar for Million Dollar Baby and now this. I don't know about other actress, but she always acknowledge the crews who made the movie together with her. By doing this, she knows she couldn't win if not for the team work to make the movie successful! what a great person indeed!

As good and haunting as "Boys Don't Cry" is, it's not a movie you can watch again and again. Simply because it hurts. The whole story about Brandon Teena hurts. It's so utterly heartbreaking that a young man had to die because he was living his life truthfully..

The only thing missing is for Brandon Teena to know how much his time on Earth made a difference. All the ripples that were sent out. Can you imagine a "small-town" person knowing their life inspired an actress' finest performance, a movie and an Oscar win seen around the world?

Maybe in the late 90s to the 2000s this movie wasn't seen as much of a statement, but now, it's something we have to see. We Christians are struggling with this, although as you know it is condemned by the Scriptures, but is a fact of life .. or nature.... As long as it doesn't hurt anybody else ... I know, it will be the parents but that's how it is, probably the person is born that way due to something specific still undiscovered during conception, so it would be an inadvertent fault because of the genes. It is so unfair, but it's better for future parents to know this could happen: better be prepared to deal with it instead of having someone beloved and innocent live a life of absolute misery. God bless you .

Religion teaches you to sympathize be proud of that. We’re all humans first. As a Muslim dealing with gender dysphoria it also breaks me that I have to do these things myself. I suggest taking scientific courses beyond a 1st grade level then. It's clear you have a rudimentary understanding of biology. This kind of topic requires higher levels of thinking and goes beyond your primitive concept of vagina = female.

There's not a day that passes that I don't think of Brandon Teena and wish that I could reach into the past and reassure him that he wasn't alone. I am beyond grateful that this movie was made, that Hilary devoted herself to the role, and even more so for those who have watched it and shown understanding and acceptance.
Please remember, there are other transgender individuals going through similar, or the same, as part and parcel of their daily life, simply for being who they are, with no help or protection from those who have a duty of doing so.
Personally, I am comforted but also terrified, as my own life is almost mirrored in many ways, to Brandon's as depicted in the movie - Comforted that I'm not alone, regardless of how I feel sometimes; terrified by the similar, and very real danger of coming to harm at the hands of others. And I know I'm not alone in that.
I don't understand. I'm still the same person. Just because your favourite crisps change their packaging doesn't mean you stop buying the crisps. ;)

When she said.. "We have come a looooong way..." And at that time, there was still so much restrictions, but it was really just the time when sexual diversity is just almost at its infancy in the public eye. It breaks my heart that this was now way back 2000, and now it's 2020, but there's still a lot of work to do.. there's still so much hate.

Would've gone with Annette Bening, but I find it hard to argue with this win. I believe we all should just accept each other for the beautiful people that we are. I don't care what someone's religion is, their political views, their race/ethnicity, or their sexuality.
