The bottom line of this has been that RA has pumped in 1.5 Billion pounds in 17 years. That's £1,500,000,000 ( just so you can see that 0's) or £88,235,294 a year. The guys in this podcast have said that Chelsea receives cash injections by the owner to maintain and exceed the financial disadvantage that it would have without RA.
Chelsea doesn't generate the money it needs to operate at the level it has done for the last 17 years. The reason why a "consortium" is being discussed, more often than not is that there is no 1 individual that wants to spend 2-3 billion and then another 1-2 billion for a new stadium to allow Chelsea to compete financially. Not a lot of billionaires want to spend 2-3 billion on a acquisition and a further £88 million a year to maintain that acquisition . Chelsea had it good for the last 17 years....very good.
A lot of Chelsea fans want to ignore the financials of Chelsea's situation because they haven't had to worry about the financial implications for Chelsea in the last 17 years. It's like getting pocket money as a kid, not worrying how that money comes but knowing that it will always be there. Then adulthood comes and you have to get a job and pay taxes.
We will see what happens when the dust settles, I'm just no so optimistic that there will be another RA. If new owners come in and do half of what RA did then that would be a win for Chelsea, I doubt that they would keep the status quo though

These numbers are either wrong or misleading. First, he spent 19 years as owner of Chelsea, not 17. Second, and more obvious when talking about the financial situation, those numbers are front loaded. Chelsea doesn't get £80MM/year. Last year, it was £22MM, in part because of crowd restrictions early in the season.

    • @HabitualLine-Stepper
      @HabitualLine-Stepper 2 ปีที่แล้ว

@Mannie303 A lot of opinion and not many facts.
Modern football is inherently unprofitable. A large amount of RA/owner wealth is transferred to the players.
There is also the matter of how clubs are structured. If RA owns the club, he owns the 25-man squad. If the average value of each player is £40m, the squad alone is worth £1bn.
Clearly Chelsea doesn't want to sell its entire squad, but this shows where £1bn of RA's £1.5bn is 'in' the club, where the balance sheet stars to balance.
The other £500m is also easy to trace. Let's say Lampard spent 10 years earning roughly £100k/week - that's £52m on one player! Half of which goes to HMRC.

Well that’s what you get when you rely on your owner (with a bit of a shady past ) to fork over money.
Which is why I was glad when Lampard came in, he wanted to implement more academy graduates which keep the cost down a lot than just recklessly buying players which money you don’t have (Abramovich paid the money, not Chelsea)

Chelsea owe Abramovitch £1.5 billion, what he should have done - instead of writing it off - is convert that debt to equity (51%) and then given it to the fans in the form of a foundation. That foundation can either allocate non dividend paying shares to season ticket holders or invite fans to buy these non-dividend paying shares.
He should then accept the governments offer (it requires his permission) to sell the remaining 49% to any bidder. The buyer would have to be approved by fans. And because the foundation shares won't pay dividends, the accumulated dividends would act as a means of preventing share dilution.
Should the new owner fail, the fans would be able to remove him.
Also the goodwill - from the fans, would allow Abramovitch to return at some future date.

The hypocrisy of this situation is that the decision to approve ownership of a British club to a Russia oligarch was taken by the UK Government and Premier League as a part of their standard procedures in 2003. They have had 17 years to step in and assess his relationship with Putin, yet they sanction him in a way that is dismantling the clubs ability to operate at the business end of the season. To deny fans access to the games is punishing us, not Abramovich! Why not let fans in for free or have them donate their ticket funds to a Ukraine Victims Fund? The coaches and the players aren't in favor of supporting Putin's intent to invade Ukraine so why not simply appoint a government CEO and continue operations? Why not appoint a financial auditor to ensure no money is paid out to other than those agreed by the sanctions? There are LOTS of options here but clearly, the UK Government isn't thinking clearly.

Sanctions are a long term thing. Expecting the war to just suddenly stop because they have been sanctioned is stupid. However, it does serve to weaken Russia's economy to make it harder for them to invade other countries and sustain their military, weakens them in the global stage and weakens their power as their economy is pretty reliant on oil. This can help to destabilise the regime. The sanctions on the oiligarchs can help influence Putin as part of the point of the regime is the embellish the few in power with the riches (eg Putin and the oiligarchs). Youth players’ parents have been bought, Emma Hayes was bought, she’s a gooner ffs. Cashley was a gooner that never would have left if it wasn’t for roman. If you sign a deal with the devil and all that. You’ll get no pity from me or anyone else who’s not a chav. You’re now gonna have to operate like normal clubs, boohoo 😢.

Football has been ruined by this for far too long, it is a sad day when a club the size of Celtic cant compete in the transfer market with championship clubs never mind the EPL. UEFA champions league is also rotten to the core. Hopefully some time soon we will see a breakaway from these corrupt organisation and give football back to the man in the street.
