HOW Thomas Tuchel became the best coach in the world

  • Thomas Tuchel had a season like no other in 2020/21. He won the Champions League with Chelsea just 6 months after being fired by PSG. The triumph marked the latest highlight in Tuchel's glittering career. But his road to the top has been bumpy to say the least. While his tactical genius has brought him success at Mainz, Dortmund, PSG and now in London, he has also fallen out spectacularly with various people at those clubs, with one former player even calling him a "dictator." Kick off! looks back at Tuchel's development from bartender to coaching mastermind.

      @reluctantsocialist2670 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you grew up in Mainz then you know what you’ve said is utter lies. That club was built from 2001 onwards, they were in the second tier of German football staring at relegation, gave Klopp the job, he won 6 of his first 7 games and they avoided relegation, 2 seasons later he gets them to the Bundesliga for the first time in their history. They had the smallest budget, stadium and wage budget in the Bundesliga yet finished 11th that first season. They finished 11th the following season as well and also qualified for the UEFA cup being knocked out by the eventual winners. Tuchel joined Mainz straight after Klopp left for Dortmund so already had Mainz best ever squad in their history to work with, just like the rest of his career, walking into a club already built by someone else and taking credit for that.

      Tuchel is an excellent coach. This video overstates by portraying him as a genius with so-called innovations and playing different formations with different players. Different players have different strengths and weaknesses, so of course you use them accordingly; not rocket science.
      His Achilles heel, though, is that he plays favorites with players . If he can control his urge to play players based on how much he gets on with them, whether or not they’ll bow down to his strong-arm tactics with players. Watch who sits for Chelsea and you’ll understand those are the players who will stand up to him for not treating them as people, rather than as a dictator.

      Well said. Chelsea's squad is the difference IMO vs PSG or BVB. The squad is full of extremely intelligent and experienced professionals who are dedicated to winning and discipline (Azpi, Kante, Marcos, Jorginho, Thiago, Ruediger, Mount, etc.) and they are a perfect fit for a demanding and methodical coach like Tuchel. When you have big individual egos like Neymar and Mbappe it is far more difficult for an inflexible personality like Thomas.

Every previous manager has criticised the Chelsea dressing room.
      Also, please refrain from spreading opinions as facts because it is hard to hear things about your team which are so far from the truth.

      tbh I kinda agree on what you're saying but it also comes with some positive and negative perks with him joining Chelsea. Chelsea have the tendency to terminate contracts of managers like it is nobody's business... we've seen that in previous managers. You can claim it as "ambitious club" "hunger to win trophies"... but sometimes it is never about that. You get to lose the touch or the identity to become a " big" club... They can become the best club for a season or two, but a big club is very different. You can clearly see that in Manchester United Fergie Era, He laid the foundation so strong that even in the bad times and not winning trophies era they're still a big club, not the best club but they do have that Identity in them... but modern day football has changed a lot but I wouldn't be surprised in a season or two he'll be gone with players turning their backs or fallout with the owners.

    His comment at 5.40 mins. is spot on. It should be framed and put up in every professional and grassroot football club. No player is above the team. If a player only plays in his own bubble the team suffers. Egos, solo artists and show ponies will get you followers on silly social media platforms, but they are the death of team sports. There are 11 players on the field. If you don't work for each other you won't have success. Kudos to Tuchel for sticking that to one of his players, whoever it was.

    It looks to me like he finally hit his coaching prime so to speak. He matured. Because he was always this genius, calculating everything perfectly and so competitive that that fire burned him multiple times but now you can see that he honestly developed amazing human qualities and characteristics. Because the first thing I told my friends when I saw him at Chelsea (didn't follow him much as a person prior to, only his games and results) that Tuchel seems to me like a great pedagogist and he knows how to cater to any type of player and draw the best out of them. You can see it by his comments from the start "it's my fault Ziyech is not playing often even tho he is a great player" etc. etc. He knows now how to make everyone comfortable, develop good relationships, understanding as well as making players want to kill and die on that pitch for him. We've bought a golden ticket as a club and Chelsea fans. I couldn't be more happier, this is a dream and long may it continue!

In the long run if you think like that and talk like that openly in media the players will have to do what he wants, if not they’re out. Still early days his good a top team I still think Liverpool and Man City can challenge him to the title this season.

    Already in Paris one had the feeling that Tuchel has improved in human interaction. This is evidenced by positive player statements after his departure. I think he has learned from his difficult dealings in Dortmund. That has brought him, apart from his sporting abilities, quite a bit further forward. The human aspect is not to be disregarded with top coaches.

      Well he took a really split and fallen apart chelsea dressing room, moments after our greatest player ever was sacked as our feel-good manager, and not only brought them all together, but galvanised them back into title winners. Players who hadn't performed to that level in months/years all of a sudden did, players who had showed no desire or grit were suddenly warriors. There were players talking about the togetherness of the squad, how its one big family, when those same players were on their way out of the club by their own volition. He built that team back up to what it shouldve been the whole time: A title winning family.
