Sorry to be so offtopic but does someone know a method to log back into an instagram account? I was stupid lost the account password. I love any tricks you can give me.
I have to say that I love your job, the constant change of scenery and a beautiful one at that, again, thank you for sharing your experiences with us...
That is correct and one of the many upsides of the job. It's always a change of landscape and not only that, the weather, the track conditions or just different light on different days can make the same route look totally different.
Every time you watch one of these again, you notice something new of interest. Today: a red Mk 1 Ford Capri on the left there at Wipkingen, 3:55! That's worthy of note in anyone's book!
You are awesome! Rail Cow Girl gave you a plug in one of her videos and this is how I found you. When I was in my 20s, there was nothing more that I wanted than to live in Switzerland. Now in my 40s, you are giving me a bit of that old dream.
A nice fabulous journey through Switzerland, Austria and Germany. Thanks for sharing. Never thought that we'd get to experience three countries in one video. A thumbs-up to this video. 👍👍☺☺
Brings back beautiful memories of 42 years ago when I was an 18-year-old on my way to Müncheh to spend six months as an exchange student there. This is the almost identical route I took. The only difference from this one in the video, if I recall correctly, was the trip from Zürich Hauptbahnhof to Winterthur, which I think went Oerlikon-Wallisellen-Dietlikon-Effretikon-Kempttal-Winterthur. I don't believe the line through Flughafen existed back then. I also recall the trip in reverse six months later, taking the same train back to Zürich from München to fly home again. I hope one day to take this trip again one last time. Thank you again for another beautiful video with a personal touch! As always, looking forward to the next one!
Greetings from the United States! I have had a cab ride in a Reading and northern switcher. It is truly an amazing experience. You never realize how high up you are until you look out the window. Awesome video, loved every second of it
That was relaxing. I found the rain very soothing. I like seeing trains crossing lines, as well as the feeling of speed and the train rounding bends and going through tunnels. These virtual cab rides are saving me a fortune in train fares! 😁 (Though, today, I still took a _real_ train ride through the English countryside! Which was fun too!)
Thank you for premiering this run - it was a privilege to share the obvious pride and joy you have for this profession. It was very interesting to compare the way you took the downslope between St Fiden and Rorschach this time with the time you had 2xRe425 plus 20 tanks - still quite cautious and respectful despite the lighter load and no sawtooth braking and much the same overall time for the section - clearly on any major incline, one goes down more slowly than up, in order to keep the signalling sections the same in both directions - what would the normal difference be here, 20km/h? It was also amusing to contrast the way the different companies deal with vegetation - apart from a bit of fur around the edges of Opfikon and Wipkingen, all seems pretty good on the SBB; same on DB, as one might expect; Austria is a different story - ÖBB publicity makes much of their green credentials and one must assume the Bregenz jungles are a reflection of this - are the Austrians content with things as they are or are they working on a solution? It was mentioned during the premiere that drainage was compromised and the line is close to the Rhine and the Bodensee. I should add that we have an issue in the UK with buddleia growing in brickwork and compromising viaducts, largely as a result of the move to more environmentally friendly weedkiller. Anyway, thanks again for the timely and historically relevant post \m/
No sawtooth here, but air brakes were still used due to the lack of adhesion on the locomotive alone on the steep grade. The speeds are the same in both directions. The growth will probably stay there for the same reason that you mentioned, because weedkiller can't be used in high concentrations - if any at all - right at the border of the lake.
I actually took this train from Zurich to Munich in May 2017. Interesting route with change from electric to diesel at Lindau. A beautiful route and single track from Lindau to near Munich. Nice to see from head end as well.
"...change from electric to diesel at Lindau..." I remember that, too. I've read that Deutsche Bahn plans to finally electrify the Allgäuer route through Kaufbeueren and Kempten to München, but haven't seen any indication of when they expect to have the conversion completed. If it happens, I guess SBB engines will pull the EuroCity trains all the way to the EOTL at München Hauptbahnhof, as there will be no more need for engine changes at Lindau.
This was quite a journey. Also showing us the path of a train engineer goes not always in sunshine. But the view was good and i have seen quite some scenery along the way. Keep up the good work. Thanks for this video! Greets from the Netherlands.
Super video. No weird camera lenses. Nice route and landscape. And as I am watching the ride, it is 29 C in my room, and the rain is kind of refreshing ☂🙂
Nice !!! Video was so real that I kept leaning to my left so I would see out the clear part of the window LOLLOL (fail to the designer of that wiper placement . PHEW)
Rode this train in late June 2019 from Zurich HB to Kempten in Bavaria to change to a train to Memmingen (and fly away from there) This ride was so so beautiful I wrote a couple of very romantic pages to a girl I then tried to date. I mean, imagine an ultra-comfortable ac-cooled train with the summer sun through huge windows. This is also quite cheap - booking a month in advance through DB website costs (as it were then) only 12 euros. And that`s for a swiss international train! Memmingen airport also has a lot of low-cost flights to cities around Europe. Great ride, highly suggest it when travelling to Switzerland!
Danken, that was an awesome journey I truly loved it! I'm a first generation German-Canadian, so my German language skills are non existent though I do understand a wee bit, again thanks!
I love the right on time schedules that Europe sticks to! The clocks at the stations are never at odd times like 3:53 or 8:27 etc. Here in Calgary, and probably all of Canada for that matter, we never have accurate schedules, most likely because of our British influence! Our clocks are not even accurate!
Another spectacular video, thank you very much. They built the terminal on a small island, it sounds weird, there must be a rational explanation for this, but I can't guess it.
With the new timetable in December 2020 the internationals trains will not stop in Lindau Hbf and change direction. Therefore the Eurocity train will stop in Lindau-Reutin; others sources speak of Lindau-Aeschach (although that is in the northwest of the city). Also the line will be completely electric. No need for a diesel locomotive as seen at 1:45:54!

A lovely and interesting cab ride, thanks for sharing and the informative captions! What do you think about the future concept and the development of Lindau? :)
Not sure about the development in Lindau, however the new concept of the Eurocity makes the train between Zurich and Munich much more attractive.
