I've said it before, but your videos are great. Unlike any other creator out there. I have no doubt that you'll grow a huge fanbase because you're so committed to frequently posting quality videos!
You're a life saver! I've been shopping around for (budget friendly) programs that have better animation features than procreate. The animation work flow in Fresco is significantly less tedious than procreate. Thank you so much!
Procreate and Procreate dreams is so popular and that I was almost feeling left out at the onset of my illustration/animation journey. But now after watching this video, I will happily start learning Fresco.
In Procreate, you can drag to layers together to create a Layer Group, and then with Animation Assist on, each layer group is treated as its own frame.
Yeah, I believe I mention that. I was saying that you’d have to figure out how many times you’d need that sequence to repeat to change the speed of the new item.
Took me ages to figure out the benefits of layer groups. I use them to liquify multiple layers together. I used to export the whole image and re import it when I wanted to liquify multiple layers, but then I couldn't go back and have my seperate layers again unless I went back to the original.
Watching you do this is one of the coolest things I think I’ve ever seen. Never really been into the animation part of illustrations, but this makes me want to give it a shot.
Seems hard to imagine that a professional artist doesn't know about Dreams right now, and seems weird to ignore mentioning it in a video while shilling for a product that costs way more.
Dreams is still lacking some basic features like the Lasso tool, so it'll take some time for it to be on a Pro level, even though some people are making great stuff with Dreams
Dreams has surprisinglu steep learning curve. But I have been defaulting to it for certain animations lately. I will literally bounce between 3 or 4 animation apos depending on my idea. That said i would still recommend fresco for beginners.
I do know about Dreams. I've even done a video about it. For the stuff I do Fresco is easier and more efficient. Procreate dreams is a full on animation application, whereas fresco is a drawing app that allows you bring motion to an otherwise static image. If I were doing things that were more story based it required a universal timeline with video, procreate dreams would be the one to use. In regard to me "shilling," How so? I don't benefit from anyone getting Fresco. I'm just sharing info that a lot of people don't know about and I found super helpful myself. Also, Fresco is free unless you want to import brushes or need more cloud storage-and if you do it's 9.99 per year. Dreams is $25ish? And you really need Procreate as well since the drawing experience in Dreams is limited, and that's $15ish now I think? So if you got the paid version of Fresco it would take 4 years to be equal out in price and then on that fifth year Fresco would finally cost WAY MORE at less than $1/month.
your instructions are so much fun and simple. I've been having tons of entertaining hours at adobe fresco, thanks to your guidance. keep up the excellent work.

this is INSANE. ive always shied (shyed?) away from animation because my process is exactly like yours and it didnt jive with the Procreate way. But this....ohhhh boyyyy yes
I've been debating the move from Procreate to Fresco for a long time because, well, vectors. And I used to use Adobe Illustrator ALL the time. I think youve convinced me to give Fresco another shot, especially with the animations. Just need to find the right brush for my inking
So here is a big question. I used procreate but after watching you I am wanting to switch to fresco. It seems to be that all in one app for drawing, vector, animation. But you mentioned in this video that you don’t always know what direction you will go with animation. So fresco having the ability to do various layers is perfect over procreate. But like this monster. What if I did a drawing not planning on animating it, so I draw it all on one layer… but then decide I want to animate it. Could I grab, say the leg and separate it and go into animating it?
Hey sorry for the slow response! In that situation you could use the selection tool to grab an arm or leg and put it on its own layer. You’d just have to draw in the rest of the body that would have been covered by the appendage.
Ok, so this just blew my mind. Well first, about a month ago, Adobe Fresco blew my mind. I mean, I thought that Fresco was dead! Then, while going to update another app, I saw Fresco in my uninstalled Adobe Apps. Embarrassingly, as an avid Adobe user , I just did not get Procreate. My students who I think were born with iPads in their hands get it. I was struggling for years. Fresco is so much more intuitive for me. And, now that I see it can animate, that's amazing! I can't wait to watch your other videos.
🤯 You sir have inspired me to tinker around with animation for the first time in my life. I've always been intrigued and just assumed it to be too difficult but you've shown how simple it can be with Fresco!
You are to me as Kyle Webster was to you. Cheers for that. So far my only challenge with Fresco has been how laggy the software is with vector brushes. Any clue how to get around that? I just bought your brushes on your site but I think this is an Adobe hurdle since the stock ones seem the same.
Ah thanks! To be honest I haven’t noticed much lag with the vector stuff unless I have a ton of layers with a ton of stuff on each. You can try to use a smaller document size when working in vector. What iPad are you using?
@@chris-piascik looks like a 2020 iPad Pro... That sounds like you're saying my son will inherit and I will have to buy an M3 when they release this year. 😆
@@chris-piascik hoping so! I do a majority of web work and want to keep svgs on my sites and fresco having this plus vector trim is a huge step above procreate so maybe they'll give this some love or apples chips will just solve it in due time. Appreciate the advice!
Woww this changes the game completely, and makes animation more fun by being easier. The stars part blew my mind, doing that on procreate would take so much time
OMG!!! I went through the same until I got into a Graphic Design program (for the second time) abroad and start hearing about Adobe Fresco again, I had my doubts and then YT suggested me your video, so I'll be trying it again for sure!
I just recently found your TH-cam channel (and also found you on Skillshare) and I have been feverishly binge watching SO much! Your teaching style is great and very engaging. And you have finally made me want to try lettering... and after this video, maybe even animation? WTH is going on with me? 😂Anyway... thanks for sharing your talent!
Thank you for this little showcase! I have been on the lookout for a new animation programme for a while now (been using procreate too). Even though I gotta say that procreate dreams is actually pretty good I think. But I absolutely will try Fresco! But for the last half of the video I hardly got what you said, because I was so distracted by your dog. What a cutie :D
I knew Fresco had added animation but like assumed it was like ProCreate, which if I want to go back and change something becomes a complicated mess in layers. Thank you for showing how it differs. I’m going to try Fresco again. Procreate has slowed down updates ever since their new animation app. Fresco also has great painting experience in addition to having a choice of using vector layers.
Ah yeah, that’s what I thought for a while too. It’s part of why I’ve made videos about it. These features have been so helpful for me and not a lot of people seem to know they exist.
This is a good video on fresco. I wasn't aware of the animation features with Fresco. Procreate wasn't created with animation in mind, IMO it was an afterthought. Procreate Dreams, on the other hand, is intended for videos/animations. It's not free, but neither is Fresco if you want all of the features.
Thanks! Motion was added after the fact to Fresco as well, they’ve just kept developing it. I can see the merits to having a separate app for full on animation, but for me as someone who’s adding movement to an otherwise static image I think this system is best. I’m mostly an illustrator, with just a dash of animator.
Sadly, Adobe REFUSES to let Fresco run on anything that isn't an iPad, Surface, or Wacom-like drawing hardware. I cannot use it on my Mac with my drawing tablet :(
Yeah, Fresco was built from the ground up for the iPad which is why it works so well there. It was adapted for the Microsoft surface and as a result works on windows devices, but that’s only because windows uses the same OS for mobile and non-mobile devices
The symmetry tool hasn’t been added yet, I do know they’re currently testing it. Copy and paste is meant to paste on a new layer as that’s almost always the purpose. Otherwise it’s not as simple to have full control over it. That said you can easily merge it onto another layer by just tapping merge down in the layer menu.
New subscriber here. Thank you so much. I will go and watch your skillshare now. This is exactly the type of thing that annoyed me so much in procreate and stopped me from animating. I wanted to use ipad no matter what, it is just so much more comfortable than the windows, especially when you have the 12 pro version with tons of space and if you have a baby that doesnt allow you to sit long at the computer. Im so happy and excited.
Just alone that Procreate is not supporting Ai is enough for me to not leave it. Just my opinion. I cannot forget about that setting activated by default in one of Adobe’s products (don’t remember which one atm). Once again just in case: this is just my opinion.
Welp, I'm sold. I stopped animating because it felt weird and annoying in Procreate. And I stopped using Fresco because it felt weird and annoying to use. Guess I gotta try it again.
Good Talk! I'm seriously gonna try this out. My friend has been screaming at me to animate my weird illustrations for years and I been too scared to do it!
I think it is definitely time for me to try out Fresco. I love Procreate, but I definitely believe in using all of the tools I can! This really helps because I ran into the same problem with Procreate earlier on with multiple animations and also my ADD brain will not think about it until I’m in the process flow.
Oh, and I'm still tweening to make some wheels to rotate, and fight with the curves to tweak the speed. Rotation is a much needed motion, and see it automated on the go saves sanity points.
wow, fresco is really neat. I didn't realise it was so useful. I haven't used it since it was released and it was rough at the time. Great guide, thanks!
O M G # of times I said "holy crap!" 327 and counting! This blew my mind. I was going to use Procreate Dreams for animation, but now I don't even want to try it. Glad I became a member! Also, the dog. ❤❤❤
Hey. thats really cool, thanks for this video. I'm new to fresco so i have a question. when you give the happy and the unhappy clouds the circular movement, i asked myself if you could link the rainbow to the cloudes. So that the left part has some other movement then the right side. Or is that to advanced? Kind regards.
I use ibis and procreate, it depends on the kind of art and brushes I want access to and for animation I use flipaclip. All work for different things really well. Personally I use procreate the most for comics and stuff with the page setting but the max of 20 layers gets annoying sometimes.
lol DEFUND PAW PATROL! They’re out of control. Do you know how bad something has to be to include dogs as hero’s AND still have me hate it?!? It’s pandemonium!
@@chris-piascik Your success is well-deserved because your work is so damned impressive. I said in the early days of your channel that you would blow up big, and I meant it. Hell, if my platform were ready at the time, I'd certainly have been angling to get you on board. _(I think I'd said that, too)_ Anyway, you are still the absolute best instructor on TH-cam. Keep it up, fella! _... going back into lurk mode... where I descend into the depths of unforgiving code......._
I'd considering it if someone can tell me what are the resources out there like for Fresco? there are great resources available for procreate. great brush packs that I've collected over the years. having to refind those type of brushes for both VECTOR and PIXEL would be so much work, esp if the resources aren't as dense.
Fresco uses Photoshop brushes so any PS brush will work, there’s infinitely more Photoshop brushes out there than Procreate specific brushes. I think Procreate made it possible to import PS brushes, so if that’s what you are using they’ll transfer over. Vector and pixel-based brushes are completely different though. So you can’t use a pixel based brush as vector. Pixel brushes are basically just stamping pixels and vector doesn’t use pixels at all.
@@chris-piascik so, lets say I really like a set of pixel brushes that I drew something with and would like to now make the same thing in vector... is there a way to convert those brushes into vector brushes? and secondly, are there lot of vector brushes out there for Fresco. For a while there was a tough scene for with Adobe AI brushes and it's gotten better over the years, but just wondering if it's the same
I remember asking my old roommate if my $200 set of golf clubs was good enough to start with. He said, yeah, more expensive clubs won’t make a difference for you. This is kind of what this convo feels like. Procreate works great for me, because I mostly draw stick figures when I’m lounging around the house 😂😭

@theonlyrockstar haha maybe, I’ll be upgrading too, but I have the one right after yours with the M1. I think that makes a big difference.
@@chris-piascik hoping so! I do a majority of web work and want to keep svgs on my sites and fresco having this plus vector trim is a huge step above procreate so maybe they'll give this some love or apples chips will just solve it in due time. Appreciate the advice!
Tried the procreate dreams??
Woww this changes the game completely, and makes animation more fun by being easier. The stars part blew my mind, doing that on procreate would take so much time
Glad this was helpful!
Holy shit, I've been a subscriber when you had less than 10k and now you're at 40k? Damn, congrats Chris!
Thanks for being an OG!
Thank you for showing us this. I wanted to practice digital art 🖼️
Happy to help!
I think you’re great! Only found you last night, excited to watch your other videos on Fresco. ❤
Oh thank you!
Awesome Thanks!!
MAy I ask .. what is that glove/wrist band u are wearing for ?
Not only informative but crazy creative as well? Thank you
Thank you!
Sick sick sick! Man, this is inspiring to watch.
Thanks!
Excellent!, thanks!
You are welcome!
OMG!!! I went through the same until I got into a Graphic Design program (for the second time) abroad and start hearing about Adobe Fresco again, I had my doubts and then YT suggested me your video, so I'll be trying it again for sure!
Hah glad YT shared my video with you!
Best guest appearance ever
Agreed!
Oh thank you! That’s so nice to hear!
I’ve enjoyed both but I’m still into procreate. I appreciate both apps equally. Great content Chris!
Thanks! They are both great apps for sure.
I don't use Procreate, I use Reproduce.
😑
😐
🤔
😮
😨
😮☹️😢🪦
LMFAO
Been playing with fresco... But damn never realised you could animate with it 🤔🤯
I couldn’t find the symmetry tool. 😢😢 and why whenever I paste, fresco just paste on a new layer rather than pasting on the intended layer?
The symmetry tool hasn’t been added yet, I do know they’re currently testing it. Copy and paste is meant to paste on a new layer as that’s almost always the purpose. Otherwise it’s not as simple to have full control over it. That said you can easily merge it onto another layer by just tapping merge down in the layer menu.
Love your illustation style, dude!
Hey, thanks!
This was so helpful man! Using it to storyboard and learn the tools.
Glad to hear it!
I think everything sorta feels weird and annoying at first.
I love that look you give us at 1:20 - "Yes, I did just use that big word. Impressed, eh?" ;) Thanks for the fun videos, Chris!
lol, 🤓
i had no idea this was that easy...im gonna jump on this asap!!
Glad this was helpful! Have fun!
have you compare the price ?
Fresco is free for most features, or 9.99 per year for the version that lets you import your own brushes and gives more cloud storage.
Good Talk! I'm seriously gonna try this out. My friend has been screaming at me to animate my weird illustrations for years and I been too scared to do it!
You can do it!
I think it is definitely time for me to try out Fresco. I love Procreate, but I definitely believe in using all of the tools I can! This really helps because I ran into the same problem with Procreate earlier on with multiple animations and also my ADD brain will not think about it until I’m in the process flow.
Thanks for sharing!
Oh, and I'm still tweening to make some wheels to rotate, and fight with the curves to tweak the speed. Rotation is a much needed motion, and see it automated on the go saves sanity points.
Love that feature
Good talk. Definitely a good talk. Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Omg now i have to revisit procreate. Thats seems aaahmazing !! Thanks man !!!
We all do this...keep adding stuff 😆😆 Looks great man!
I'm a trash graphic artist and I'm binge watching your videos. As a software dev I respect the craft of digital artists :)
Thanks! I appreciate it
wow, fresco is really neat. I didn't realise it was so useful. I haven't used it since it was released and it was rough at the time.
Great guide, thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
O M G # of times I said "holy crap!" 327 and counting! This blew my mind. I was going to use Procreate Dreams for animation, but now I don't even want to try it. Glad I became a member!
Also, the dog. ❤❤❤
Hah awesome! Glad you found it helpful!
To be fair I think they’re both really powerful, both have cool features like live animating in dreams is sick
How would the pedal slow down going up when the pedal on the other side would be going down fast
It’s less literal in regards to physics but having a movement that isn’t exactly the same speed would look robotic and less natural.
Hey. thats really cool, thanks for this video. I'm new to fresco so i have a question.
when you give the happy and the unhappy clouds the circular movement, i asked myself if you could link the rainbow to the cloudes.
So that the left part has some other movement then the right side. Or is that to advanced?
Kind regards.
Thanks! Unfortunately you can’t really link things like that in Fresco.
I use ibis and procreate, it depends on the kind of art and brushes I want access to and for animation I use flipaclip. All work for different things really well. Personally I use procreate the most for comics and stuff with the page setting but the max of 20 layers gets annoying sometimes.
I’ve started using fresco this week, I find my workflow faster than on procreate.
👍👍👍👍
absolutely amazing, thank you dude!
You’re welcome!
I had no idea fresco could do this. Awesome sauce.
😎😎😎
That’s great, I literally just bought procreate couple of days ago with the new iPad.. now I stumbled upon this :)
You hate Paw Patrol!!!! How could you, oh the humanity! That's it..I triple DOG dare you to create a cute dog animation OR ELSE :)
lol DEFUND PAW PATROL! They’re out of control. Do you know how bad something has to be to include dogs as hero’s AND still have me hate it?!? It’s pandemonium!
Wow, it's cool to see your subs grow! Good on ya, bruh 😁👍
Thank you!
@@chris-piascik Your success is well-deserved because your work is so damned impressive. I said in the early days of your channel that you would blow up big, and I meant it. I think I also said that if Adobe weren't talking to you directly, they should.
Super awesome video, i think im sold for trying out fresco👍🏾
Thank you!
what is the stand that you're using? i really like how it was that extra spacing on the side.
It’s the Sketchboard Pro: th-cam.com/video/j2_KjBV_soE/w-d-xo.htmlsi=-r0rs4r3eZ9hcdxk
