Another PS2 classic from back in the day! Released less than 2 months after GTA Vice City this was a very ambitious open-world game set in London, England. The controls feel a little clunky by today's standards but the charm of driving real licensed cars around a realistically re-created London never gets old. Just seeing your daily commute, pub crawls etc unfold in a video game...! Thumbs up if you're from London and just getting kicks out of this video. I think the decision to do this in London was also very ambitious. Most global cities have a grid road layout and so I'd imagine would have been easier to implement. London's got a whole mish-mash road layout (due to its historical urban geography). And it wouldn't have been as simply as keeping in the "main roads". Well done to the devs!
This game was THE BEST Not the best because it was perfect, because it wasn't, but it was authentic, pushed the boundaries and had an absolutely fucking amazing storyline - Thanks for uploading without any over the top commentary and also in the BEST quality, amazing work! It really needs a re master with a few changes (perhaps to adjust the movement/clunkiness and some minor bits) - I'm sure while still a complex task it would be significantly easier than, for example, GTA ! If I became a millionaire, I wouldn't tell anyone, but there would be signs when I ended up with a Getaway remaster ! :P ETA: Expertly played as well sir, a pleasure to watch

So ahead of it’s time! Clunky movements yes but graphics were much better than GTA Vice City. Brilliant script writing & voice actors too. Criminally underrated!
Omg! Where did you find this classic!! I have a love hate relationship with this game! Around the time it came out I didn’t have anything but a sega Dreamcast. Went to a thrift shop with my grandmother one day, and found a ps2 with this game and two controllers for $30!! I picked it up soo fast! But it was the only game I had to play for like 6months 😂I beat this game more than the creators I guarantee it! But I’m tuned in appreciate the awesome content! Peace & blessings!💯🙏🏽✌🏽
I was a teenager when this came out. I saw a used copy of it at one of my local video game spots. They were selling it for $40. I had $30, sold them my copy of NBA Live 2001. They gave me $10 (but then resold it for $18) and with that I bought this game. A GTA styled game but with that Guy Ritchie, Brit gangster aesthetic. I remember the liner notes had a glossary for the Brit slang. Fun as hell, took me a minute to figure out how to heal LOL (just stand next to a wall). Realistic driving compared to GTA at that time. My cars were always getting banged up. What a time.
First game i ever played where i could be a self determined gungho renegade cop taking down criminals with my own sense of justice. bravo to this game it definitely hits me in the childhood feels.
This was a great game I played it many times as a kid but I always found it too hard to beat it. the second one is just as good in my opinion. I finally beat the first Getaway earlier this year. Wish they would bring the series back after shelving the third one.
I Loved playing The Getaway Back in the day always played it everyday also thought Charlie looked like Phil Mitchell from EastEnders (UK TV Programme) 06:06 LoL guy shouts over my dead body then gets blown away by a Shotgun.😆
i've played this game for the very first time several months ago and i must say, with better controls and slightly fairer difficulty (i swear, both Mark and Frank move like they suffer from chronic arthritis and some missions can only be beaten through divine intervention), this would've been a perfect game.
It's a tough game, for sure. I can only imagine how hard I would have found this game as a kid. I probably wouldn't have finished the 2nd level and would have got lost constantly lol. This game isn't as "accessible" as GTA but that' what makes it so unique.
When this game first came out, that exactly what I wanted. It's funny because back then this game looked gorgeous, with a dope story. Me and my friends could barely scratch the damn surface. And was it the movie super bad where they were struggling with the game too? Lol

London's got a whole mish-mash road layout (due to its historical urban geography). And it wouldn't have been as simply as keeping in the "main roads". Well done to the devs!
That mission at the Police station was hard as shit to complete!!!
God, the amount of times You had to shoot that guy was unbelievable!!! 😅😅😅😅
It’s nice to see passed the first mission lol I never understand it when I was a kid lol
This game was THE BEST
Not the best because it was perfect, because it wasn't, but it was authentic, pushed the boundaries and had an absolutely fucking amazing storyline - Thanks for uploading without any over the top commentary and also in the BEST quality, amazing work!
ETA: Expertly played as well sir, a pleasure to watch
I love how you break down the game mechanics and strategies in such an easy-to-understand way. Your passion for gaming is palpable and makes me want to play more games myself. Can't wait to see what other games you'll be playing next. Wow, this video is really good. I love the way you presented it. The graphics are amazing. The music is so fitting. I've never seen anything like this before. You're so talented. I'm definitely subscribing to your channel. Can't wait for more content like this. Great job!
So ahead of it’s time! Clunky movements yes but graphics were much better than GTA Vice City. Brilliant script writing & voice actors too. Criminally underrated!
up there with one of the best story’s told in a video game
I hope these games get remastered one day.
I knew my way in London thanks to this piece of gaming art
this was my first ever game on PS2 when I was 16. So good.
After watching this video I've just bought a PS2 and the game on disc is on its way. Looks ahead of its time, thanks.
I remember being just knee high of a grasshopper playing this game with my sisters boyfriend.
We've been best friends since 2000 😂
Didn't know this was connected to The Gangs Of London show til I was watching an interview the other day. Damn good show and a damn good game!!!
Man I played the demo of this game when I was a kid… memories😢😢
it’s crazy how this game was 4k quality in my mind, nostalgia is funny
Getaway was the first game I played on ps2.. thanks Willzyyy
First game i ever played where i could be a self determined gungho renegade cop taking down criminals with my own sense of justice. bravo to this game it definitely hits me in the childhood feels.
One of the best free world games ever
Wow. The story is so captivating
This was a great game I played it many times as a kid but I always found it too hard to beat it. the second one is just as good in my opinion. I finally beat the first Getaway earlier this year. Wish they would bring the series back after shelving the third one.
I got to Mission 15 before I had to give up. In Terms of Story it was Great.
Game will always be a classic!
One of the best games in history.
I Loved playing The Getaway Back in the day always played it everyday also thought Charlie looked like Phil Mitchell from EastEnders (UK TV Programme) 06:06 LoL guy shouts over my dead body then gets blown away by a Shotgun.😆
This needs to be remastered. This game was great.
i've played this game for the very first time several months ago and i must say, with better controls and slightly fairer difficulty (i swear, both Mark and Frank move like they suffer from chronic arthritis and some missions can only be beaten through divine intervention), this would've been a perfect game.
Lol
I loved this game, but don't remember it being super tough
it was hard for me as a kid...the cop shop mission had me stuck and never progressed further haha@@Willzyyy
I love this game and story but the controls makes it hard to play it would love to have a remake of this game!
Loved this game, they should definitely remake it
I remember playing the first mission on those old demo disks over and over.
This game deserves to be remastered cause this game is well done made
This game is a classic. This game is one game i couldnt beat
The Lexus in this game was epic. This game was so ahead of its time. I remember trying to beat this as a ten year old lol.
This game was like watching a movie and paying the movie at the same time masterpiece of a game 👍👏
This game ,True Crime and Dead 2 Rights are Some Straight Gems❗️
Man! You played this really really well! No hesitations just straight up ran through it. You really helped sell the storyline of a father on the rampage for his family! Dope asf, and then driving skill are elite asf😂😂😂 I bet you nice asf in gta frfr😂💯
Thanks! It was still a good challenge but I've had a fair bit of practice which helps!
When you played this game many times, you’ll know the whole layout of the destinations you need to go too lol
@@justahuglyahhboi9676 London's road system is so complicated that I still get lost in this game, especially in the Soho area lol, though I remember my way around a lot better now than my last walkthrough.
@@Willzyyy Ahh yes, soho area have all those side roads that’s just gonna lead you back to where you were at the first time. 😂 I remember when I was younger, and couldn’t beat the 2nd mission for shit, cause I couldn’t find the republic restaurant cause of the extra side roads keep getting me lost😂
Love how it starts at the building in ‘lock, stock and two smoking barrels’
I’m here to admit that I have never beaten a single mission after this one.
This game was great, would love if they made an updated version of it.
Loved this game so much, although the whole blinker light to see where you need to go instead of a map could get frustrating.
Omg love this game this game right here is extremely underrated thank you for playing this game again willzyyy and also Alan wake 2 is coming out October 27 I remember you playing alan wake back in 2021 love the game will you start it day 1 🙏
The intro music throws me into a different state of nostalgia
What an amazing game!!! I remember getting lost all the time in London traffic (wrong way and all)
One of my top 5 favorite games of all time!!! I just happened to stumble upon it at a Gamestop and the clerk let me know that it was a badass game, I said fuck it and the rest is history!! 🙌🏻👌🏻🔥
The only game compared to gta back in those years. Such a euphoric feeling. Man gaming was innocent and the uniqueness was different.
It still baffles me that this game still hasn't gotten a remake
This game is 22 years old! It was an amazing game for the time! The Guys at GTA must have had a good look at this game.
58:20 No way. You stopped just so you could take the GT-R!
I like how this game allowed you to run over people in licensed cars. What EA, Polyphony, and Rockstar were too afraid to do.
A truly underrated and underappreciated game for the PS2. I remember playing this as a kid. I absolutely loved it too. Too bad. You didn’t have a life system or anything. The only annoying thing about the game was I kept getting shot too easily and some of the time trial levels were a bit unforgiving
I forgot how good the music score was for this game
StAwP! I nEEdya details!
Never gets old.
this game was way ahead of its time
I remember seeing someone play this game at their house early 2000 while i was a little too and i was blown away! What sucked was at the time I could barely afford proper shoes nevermind a ps2😢
One of the best action/driving rpg on ps2 and I still have it on my ps2. Nice if they would do an updated 2023 version and a sequel would be Pawsome😊
Y'all need to watch The Long Good Friday. It's an old-school British cutting edge gangster film starring the late Bob Hoskins and a young Pierce Brosnan as an IRA terrorist. The film was a inspiration for The Getaway.
How have they not made another up to date version of this game?!!!
This game, now that Im older reminds Me of a movie called RONIN 😅😅😅😅😅😅
Great game, the ps2 era had some absolute cracking game, this is one of them
Brought it back, nice game 🎯💪💯
One of THE BEST games
Willzyyy u showing off now. This was one of those games back in the day.
Nah just showing the love for these PS2 classics! :)
