Just read Edgedancer for the first time and I genuinely the most meh book Ive read in a while, and Im someone who likes Lift. Brothers in Arms except from Barrayer might be my fav of the books so far. I love Miles and I love his relationship to "spoilers". Very excited to continue Terra Ignota

Yay that you had such a good reading month and got in so many great sci-fi reads, especially the exploding ones. I'm definitely tempted by Some Desperate Glory after hearing positive reviews from you guys - maybe when I have a little brain space.

Yeah, I wouldn't pick up Some Desperate Glory because of its cover either, it has a specific look that really just looks like something I wouldn't like. We Have Always Been Here sounds interesting though, and the Terra Ignota series does too.
This month, I've read some cool stuff. First, I finished Stonewielder, which I'd been reading since May, I think? And then I read Lovely War, which was fun, and a genre that I basically never read. And, after that, I read about half of The Paper Menagerie and Other Stories, which has been SO GOOD. I've been enjoying Ken Liu's writing style, and his stories have a specific flavour that is really distinct imo. I don't know that I'd be able to point out what's a Ken Liu piece of writing in a blind test or something, but all the short stories have felt pretty consistent so far, and I like that

🐉 🐉 I just finished Prime Deceptions - GREAT character development/representation with interesting takes on tropes. Also loved Some Desperate Glory, though the "but wait there's more" threw me a bit.

Thank yoy for your thoughts on "The Saint of Bright Doors. It sounds exactly like the book for me. Someone recomended because I am obsessed with "Piranesi" by Susanna Clarke.

Glad you had such a good month. My favorites from July were my two 4.5 ⭐️ books. The literary leaning suspense/coming of age novel All the Colors of the Dark and a historical coming of age narrative cell set in the south calllled Sometimes a River Song, which had amazing atmosphere.

I'm always so happy to see someone enjoying and talking about the Terra Ignota series, if it works for someone it's so good. I also need to read the last book but the previous 3 have been a while so I should probably reread them first. I just keep putting it off, but you make me want to do it.

You're getting me in a sci-fi mood here!! Some Desperate Glory had been slipping off my radar, but I am def bumping it back up again thanks to you! And heeeck yes for Seven Days in June, I love Tia Williams' romances so much!!
My standouts of July were The Undertaking of Hart & Mercy by Megan Bannen, Thirsty by Jas Hammonds (exceptional YA contemporary), and The Sundering Hours by Jacquelyn Hagen (this indie series is so criminally underrated!!). Cheers 🐉

I now have Some Desperate Glory on hold through my library! I think "deconstruction" has become one of my top buzz terms for books.

Dawnshard is on a completely different level than Edgedance, it is truly so fun.

I was really not sure about how much I'd like Some Desperate Glory, but hearing your review and also the comparison to Light Brigade is gonna finally bump it up my TBR. Definitely fully sold on Terra Ignota now too. Thanks!

Agreed, I read Dawnshard earlier this year and it is awesome! I also loved the main character in it, since I also really liked her interludes in the full novels. I am also looking forward to reading a lot of these books!🐉🐉

🐉🐉🐉 I participated in the Tarot Readathon and read 9 books. My favorite was The Adventures of Amina al-Sirafi. I tried to read The Sky on Fire but felt bored and dnf’d halfway through. Might check out The Chorus of Dragons though.
