I hope the aftermarket parts people come up with a chain conversion kit for that stupid belt running in oil. Then it should be good for life after the first change.

32 real world highway MPG is insane! The exterior styling looks weird to me, like something is out of proportion, looks too tall, like it’s top heavy and tippy. Maybe it’s just missing some lines or visual effects to give it more of a stance. That being said, the interior is incredible and looks like a great road tripper. I can see 500 miles just pass by without any fatigue being in a driver or passenger in such a generous interior.

Thanks Kyle, great review! I recently purchased a 2020 1500 Silverado with the 6.2L and 10 speed transmission, I'm at about 45K miles and started researching to have the transmission serviced (fluid drained, filter replaced) and I was quoted $650 from the dealer. I couldn't believe it! If you have any conversations with GM engineers it would be interesting to know why this newer platform wasn't designed for transmission serviceability. With as many newer Silverados / Suburbans / Yukons etc. on the roads, I can't imagine everyone needing to spend that much for a transmission fluid change. I appreciate your reviews and videos, thanks for all the great content!!

Thanks Kyle for the in depth driving experience with the diesel. How would you say the 3.0L Duramax Suburban experience compares to a Ford Expedition Max with the 3.5L EcoBoost?

How would this diesel do for town driving back and forth to work and the store? Would gas be a better choice for those types of short trips?

I was interested in the 3.0 diesel in the suburban until they announced it would not be available in the Z71. DEAL KILLER. It would have been an amazing overland vehicle. Have no idea why auto makers make stupid decisions like that.

Check with Calibrated Power (DuramaxTuner) about ECM/TCM tunes that also tune the transmission to bring more meaty torque into the driving experience.

These micro diesel engines and being in large vehicles are just incredible. So far among those vehicles, the Ram 1500 Tradesman 1000 miles on a tank of gas.

You need to leave diesels in drive. I’d never use Sport. Leave it in drive and you’ll ride that torque.

I was going to mention the service life on that belt. I'm glad you mentioned it I'd be very curious to see what the engineers say. I can't even think of a reason why you would bother to put a tooth rubber belt that is bathed in oil on the back side of the engine block that drives the oil pump. Why would you just not use a chain that last the life of the engine when you already used chains for the valve train. From what I understand you have to remove the transmission to service it. Seems absolutely ludicrous to me. Even if they make it an affordable service you know when you take a transmission out and all the stuff you have to remove to get it out when it all goes back together again something's going to be slightly out of place you'll have a rattle or a loose wire or cable or bolt or some other damn thing somebody forgets to tighten. And especially on a diesel where You're expecting half a million miles out of it. And people are going to tend to put lots of miles on a diesel, that's what they're built for.
My other concern would be once these things are getting up there in age how will you know if a previous owner actually did the service? I have a suspicion when these things are 15 years old you're going to find a slew of them that end up with blown engines due to oil pump drive belt failure.

Do,some research. A lot of comment with no content. The current belt in test vehicles is over 250k miles. The engine shuts down if the oil pressure drops below safe operation. I would rather pull the drive shaft remove the transfer case and remove the transmission over removing the the front bumper, head light assembly, grill,ac condenser, transmission chiller, radiator, fans, ac compressor, alternator, power steering pump, water pump, so think a little before you comment using other peoples talking points instead of facts

I don't care what their test mileage shows. That doesn't include people that don't do their oil changes on time. They could have put a chain in place of that belt and made it a lifetime. Then you wouldn't have to do any of that work.
And if you think pulling a transmission and transfer case is easier than getting to the front cover of an engine. You haven't done much mechanical work.
When you use a chain and it's properly designed the lifespan is essentially forever. I've got a Toyota with 394,000 on it. Somebody on our local Toyota group has the same model with 580,000 on it. It'll never need a timing set, ever and it's entire life no matter how many miles you drive it. They could have also done a gear drive back there. Besides the point a chain will always outlast a belt if it's submerged in oil. If it's properly designed. Now GM doesn't do a very good job of designing much of anything. They're 3.6 L V6 usually loses the timing set under 100,000 mi. Those engines are in the traverse and other similar SUVs. And that is an engine out repair.
I don't need to know the data to realize that a rubber belt is a worse choice than a properly made chain.
